    Reflecting internet culture isn't impossible...

So I recently downloaded this visual novel called Chaos;Head, and there are a few scenes already in which the main character is IM'ing an online friend. I noticed that the manner in which the game developers had these two converse was actually quite... Realistic. I'm sure many of you have seen commercials or TV shows trying to present characters or actors as being net-savvy with chatspeak and the like. In Chaos;Head, the characters spoke like most people in spam (eerily so), with the same usage of internet terms (without gratuitous usage) and ideas. I thought they did a pretty good job, and I guess it goes to show not everyone trying to pass off as knowledgeable of net-culture is a failure.

    Avatar and signature by me.

I would guess that the writer is someone who is familiar with internet culture. That's all it takes to reflect a group well in a piece of fiction: familiarity. The goofy failures, as seen in many pieces of media, come from people with little to no experience with a culture trying to write it.

Chaos head s japanese, and is about a hikkomori so they HAD to get it right as their target audience are very much the main characters.

made by the ever charming and talented Lillian Thorne.
