Sliding down Vibre's wing Arin raised his hands into the air.
"Halt it is I Arin I have returned from my quest"
The soldiers stopped in their tracks looking quite confused as to what to do. Standing before them was a dragon and a peasant boy they had met a month before and had cast aside like you would swat a fly. Here he was returned with a mighty creature such as this!
A few more seconds passed and in that time the soldiers seemed to realise they stood no chance against the dragon; so they hasily backed away into the corners of the room. Leaving the king alone before them. All that the king was doing was staring open mouthed at the two of them. Arin frowned.
"Well, have I not done as you asked my lord?
After a few moments pause the king managed to say.
The words cut into him like a knife; the king did not sound happy or sad, but rather as if he was very surprised. Then it dawned on Arin how impossible the task that had been given to him was. What mortal man could have slain over a thousand goblins single handedly? The reality of it was that the king had needed an easy way to get rid of him without losing respect from his people, so he had sent him to a far away corner of the kingdom to a goblin hive. There to be forgotten...and roasted on a spit.
Barely contained fury now filled Arin, his life long respect for these warriors was now draining away faster than the current of a spring river. They had so thoughtlessly fired at Vibre as she flew over the city, had she sought to harm them even once?
The long silence was causing great discomfort throughout the room, many of the guards were now waiting almost on tip toes to 'escort' Arin from the room. One stood a little too close to Vibre, who gave him a warning growl flicking her tail with annoyance.
"Arin" Said the king.
"I am afraid that matters change very quickly these days, and for the pure fact you have a dragon in my throne room I would say I am very reasonable"
More growling from Vibre.
"You cannot become a knight of this land I am sorry"
The king then looked very embarressed at this seemingly ridiculous and random situation.
"Urgh you may leave" He said in a hopeful voice.
Now shaking with rage Arin turned on his heel and strode out of the hall, Vibre close behind.
