Vibre gave a happy snort and leapt up like a lamb in spring, circling Arin another few times in excitement before finally managing to hold still long enough for Arin to grasp hold of a neck spike and heave himself into the hollow between her wing muscles and her forelegs. She waited for him to get settled and shifted a little herself before taking a few steps forward, tentative at first but gaining momentum as she grew in confidence. Once she was sure he would not fall her wings unfurled with a snap like the sails of a ship, wind immediately filling them as she ran. She reached the precipice and without hesitation she kicked off the edge and struck out with her wings, propelling the pair into the sky. It took her a moment to adjust her balance but within seconds she was away, gliding away over the valley. Arin had given a shout, it sounded gleeful and Vibre answered it with her own roar of joy, almost doing a roll in the air before realising that may be pushing their first flight a little too far. And so off they sped with the sun and stars to guide them.
Vibre was used to long flights and could have easily gone the whole way without a stop but she knew Arin needed food and rest so she set down often, finding rivers full of fish and fields of wildflowers to lie in at night. It took them about three days and two night to reach the human's hive, wrought in stone and wood with dried grass protecting their homes from rain. Without pause the pair flew in on the city. Vibre heard shouts of terror and alarm from the guards on the walls and in the towers and she felt a few pathetic spikes tink against her scales, thrown by the humans no doubt. What a useless reaction. She thought, Arin would have done better in their position. Still she took evasive movements, shielding Arin from the volleys. She had a feeling his furless skin would not be so impenetrable.
Arin pointed to a small clearing in the mass of towers, paved with stone and featuring a fountain of water in the centre. She circled leisurely towards it and finally set down with a clack of her claws. There was a great iron door in front of them and Arin gestured towards it. Vibre strode forward with purpose and nudged the thing open with her nose, the great things crashing open with an almighty clang and vibrating long after. Inside ornate pillars held up the ceiling and a throne of iron coated with velvet held a young human with a pointy golden adornment resting on his head. This puzzled Vibre to no end but she couldnt think too much about it for a three man thick rank of metal-coated humans were advancing upon them, brandishing pointy sticks menacingly in her direction.
With a sigh she stretched out a leg for Arin to dismount and deal with his lesser kin.
