    Rory is there, for the most part, to highlight Amy.

    Though, I do like, how in some episodes they play up the fact whoever Amy is talking about can either be the Doctor or Rory; like in the episode I mentioned earlier, when she was talking about who was saving them. That and the name of the episode itself 'When a Good Man goes to War' could have easily been Rory.
