Shinobi Story - Reboot - Player Hunting!

G'day guys! This RP first started up a while back, but it failed, due to problems with brainstorming, lack of plot ideas and bickering between players.

We've tried to reboot the RP, but the OOC didn't really go far - due to my absence, for the most part. However, we're back now, and what we're searching for are 5-6 dedicated, talented writers, who can pump out a post of at least 4-5 paragraphs one or two times a week, minimum; we would like the RP to move faster than that, at stages, but we know how life can be; people can be busy!

The RP is going to be based around two teams of Genin from Konohagakure; lead by two Jounin, who've spots have already been filled; so that leaves us with room for 5-6 talented writers to play as our Genin.

Myself, Talarion, and Enigmatique will be running the RP, and we have a number of plot twists and interesting side-stories in the works - we've put a lot of time and effort into this, and so did the GM before us, so we'd like to have some level of dedication back from you guys, if you decide to join this RP.

The RP begins in the peacetime just after The Second Shinobi War, and your characters will just be starting out as graduates from the Shinobi Academy; you'll be focusing on character progression and relationships for the first part of the RP, but there will be super-awesome fights in the future, for sure.

...After a grueling decade of warfare, the fighting has finally stopped leaving the husks of formerly tall, proud, villages to pick up the remnants of their shattered lives and begin anew.

The five major shinobi villages survived the war relatively intact, leaving them as the cornerstones of power in the ages to follow, many of the minor villages, however, were unable to cope with the sheer military power and were reduced to a fraction of their previous influence in the world.

The forefront of the war: the Village Hidden in the Leaves, Konohagakure, suffered heavily from losses as two of its legendary figureheads the first and second hokage gave their lives to protect the nation. Sarutobi, Hiruzen - personal bodyguard and student of Nidaime Hokage - is given the title of Sandaime Hokage and presides over the village with a firm, yet fair rule in order to build up strength in a time where uneasy peace and fragile oaths stave yet another war.

Kumogakure and Iwagakure, the Village Hidden in the Clouds and the Village Hidden in the Earth respectively, do not seem to have noticed that the war is over; while the majority of the fighting has seen an end, these two villages continuously skirmish along their borders for control of the surrounding farmlands and military supremacy in the region. The Cloud's ageing Nidaime Raikage, near death has yet to name a successor to his rule, whilst Rock's Sandaime Tuschikage [Onoki of Both Scales], user of Kekkai Toutai "Particle Style" ninjutsu, is well into his time as leader of Iwagakure with no signs that he'll step down anytime soon.

The two villages continuously push the boundaries of peace and are wholly military oriented at this point, giving each a savage reputation among the other nations. Iwagakure, especially, whose previous and current Kages show no qualms in using under-handed tactics and betrayal to improve the well-being of the village, is greatly frowned upon by the other nations.

Kirigakure, the Village Hidden in the Mist, has not fared as well as the others. Owing to unforseen circumstances, the land of Kirigakure has been without the leadership of a Kage for the past 10 years, the village depends entirely on the ruling "sub-sectors" of Mafia bosses to control its outlying fishing-towns while referring to a parliamentary gathering of village-elders within the confines of the main arm of the village.

It is a land highly forfeit of honor of order, making trade between the lands increasingly difficult.

Almost as remote as Iwagakure is Sunagakure, the Village Hidden in the Sands, while still retaining the leadership of the third Kazekage [The Famous Magnet User] its military has been reduced to something of a "police force" to control domestic dispute, the village has fallen on hard times and even at the urging of the controlling party, the inhabitants seem reluctant to enter into the ninja academy - seeing no honor or reward from becoming a shinobi of Sunagakure.

• The Village Hidden in the Leaves is known for its abundance of clans and, essentially, being the birthplace of much of the ninja world. It has a deep and diverse history which is all rooted to the Senju and Uchiha clans (the direct descendants to Rikudou-Sennin himself). The land itself is fertile and the village is ripe with vendors, ninja, farmers, and the like - despite the recent tribulations of war. Although, civil unrest has been brewing between the infamous Uchiha clan and the remnants of the rule which the Senju clan had left...
  
  It's leader; Sarutobi, Hiruzen has taken the helm after the second hokage passed away and has become a figurehead for a fair but just rule in order to bring the village back to days of peace and plenty.

• The Village Hidden within the Earth has ridden the current of war since its first days, and the village makes a living off of such. The village is frowned upon by all four of the other major shinobi nations who believe that even its underhanded tactics are a little too dishonorable for even a ninja. The war profiteering and mercenary forces at work within the village make a very disciplined life-style necessary for survival, the Tsuchikage: Ōnoki of Both Scales, commands the village with an iron-fist.

• A user of the "particle-style" Kekkei Toutai, he is a force to be reckoned with even in his advancing age, yet is beloved by his villagers despite what any other nation may say - he takes care of his village is if it were his own flesh and blood. Continuous warfare seem to have only made the nation's economy grow stronger - while a rapidly advancing movement seeks to make military growth increase through optimized teaching strategies...Genin, good luck!

• The Village Hidden in the Clouds is one of mysterious origins and even stranger people, dwelling high on mountain-tops their economy is in the rare mountain-plants that they cultivate and its amazing artisan craftsmen who are considered master carpenters, artists, and most importantly...swordsman. The nation's top shinobi seem to be skilled with the art of a blade, which is definitely a rite of passage in Kumogakure. Many of those who have been refining their skills for generations passed away during the war, leaving a fresh generation of apprentices to fill in for their master's absence. The village, however, is faring worse now than ever. With the downfall of it's leader (who slips in and out of consciousness sporadically) and no foreseeable end to the drawn-out entanglement with the Rock village, the people of the Cloud wish desperately to make peace with their warring neighbors.

It has been some time since I had anything to do with this universe so I may be a tad rusty, but if things pick up I will be sure to read wiki’s and the like. I won’t ask too many detailed questions about character creation yet, and just what it is you are expecting. Instead I’ll hold off until the thread gathers the necessary interest. Anyway, I’ll keep an eye on this and await further developments.

Hello there.

I stumbled upon your thread and read the premise, which caught my attention. I didn't notice that it was related to Naruto until I got down to "Hidden Leaf" and saw that famous symbol. While I'm interested and would like to partake, I've got some unfortunate words that no GM wants to hear:

It's true. The only thing I know of Naruto is that he's a blond spiky-haired fox-boy something that can clone himself with ridiculous hand gestures, which is generally most of what other people know who aren't acquainted with the series. However, I looked at it yesterday and your RP seemed well put-together and interesting, so I actually did a little digging into exactly what 'Jutsus' and 'Chakra' were. In fact, I've even half-dreamed up a character idea. While having no knowledge on this series, here's what I can bring to the table:

• Multiple endearing characters
• Out-of-the-box style ideas
• Possible connections for plot
• Realism (good or bad, take it however you see it)
• In depth analysis of character psyche and possible motives
• A hammer and chisel for writer's block

Given, some of these go out the window when I have no idea what I'm doing, but still. If you want to accept me, I'll see if I could PM you a CS for proofreading. But if not, I'll just give you a thumbs up for design. You got someone who would never consider watching Naruto, let alone doing an RP of it, spend his own free time trying to find out what the hell a 'Hokage' was to get involved. Bravo!

Alethea is very focused and direct in nature, seeing little point in idle conversation or subtlety - she is honest to a fault, and has trouble not taking everything others say literally, even if their remarks are allegorical or facetious in nature. She has a bad habit of tagging buildings and landscapes with graffiti via her hand seals, with the results being particularly hard to remove except through unsealing techniques. She has issues with personal contact, since in her family one is only touched if they are about to have a seal applied.

Her family was reserved in her upbringing, and as a consequence she is somewhat emotionally fragile and often confused or flustered in social contexts. She has a very sensible and realistic outlook for her age due to the education and training she received from her family, but she is still a vulnerable and impressionable child.

Alethea has little respect for the material possessions of others, and has carelessly marked various objects such as vases, tables, lights, and clothing with seals due to idle scribbling in the past. She is overly enthusiastic when it comes to utilizing her techniques, and is quick to resort to dangerous and unconventional methods that could potentially harm her own teammates. If her plans do not work, she grows increasingly frustrated and angry (usually at herself).

The Shīru Clan originally hails from Uzushiogakure, the Village Hidden by Whirling Tides. As expected, they specialize in fuinjutsu to a ludicrous degree, and are some of the finest sealing experts in the land. They mostly keep to themselves, staying uninvolved when it comes to village politics, but regularly contract their skills out to the Konoha Council. They are a particularly small family, with only one clan head. They withhold academy education in favor of training their progeny at an undisclosed local, in the interest of keeping their family technique a secret.

Alethea was born in the Land of Whirlpools, at the insistence of her mother despite the Shīru family already living in Konoha at the time - an insistence that would set the trend for the rest of Alethea's childhood. She was secluded and kept sheltered by her parents until the day she turned six, when Alethea's father created the Butterfly Seals on her palms, and for days afterward she couldn't move her hands at all. Her parents gave her little sympathy, and took her from their home to a place away from Konoha to train her in the ways of the Butterfly Seal. She spent time learning how to hone her chakra control and using her palm seals correctly - more often than not, in the early days at least, she was liable to burn the flesh of her hands and arms every time she attempted to use a technique when they inevitably backfired due to the risk of using the Butterfly hand seal.

Even after training hard enough to reliable use the hand seal for the common techniques she had been taught, Alethea's family pushed her harder, teaching her common fuinjutsu techniques and methods and strategies inherent to efficient sealing methods. She learned the intricacies of containing, disrupting, breaking and imbalancing fuinjutsu seals, how to alter or modify preexisting seals, how to best exploit the advantages garnered through the use of the family secret technique, and so forth. Once every three weeks, Alethea was brought to Konoha where she was given four or so days to herself, wherein her parents mostly left her alone. The alien environment did little to comfort her, lost in a colorful world without anybody to help her. At least her parents had guided her, even if they were strict.

The day Alethea became capable of performing the Butterfly Seal: Imperfect Reserved Strike, was the day she became a genin, both in the eyes of her parents and in the eys of the village - the moment after she successfully completed the technique, her parents called for three academy jounin to test her so that she could be registered as a genin. She received graduation status after performing the last exam before them. Her parents surprisingly threw a celebration, declaring her to be an adult in their eyes now that she had completed the training necessary for using the family's secret technique, and told her that the rest of what she was to learn, she would be responsible for learning herself, using the knowledge she had been taught. Alethea though, was too confused by the years of sternness and harsh standards - she didn't know how to react to her parents actually displaying affection for her. Since then, they and their daughter grew increasingly distant, and Alethea always feels lost to an extent, not knowing who she can rely on. She knows that the techniques she was taught were just the tip of the iceberg, and the weight of learning everything her parents knew was entirely on her shoulders.

She wears a dark green, knee-length happi coat with her family emblem (a figure-eight symbol with two whorls within the spaces) emblazoned on the back, with a grey Uwagi uniform and tan-colored samue pants. Her eyes are teal, and her black hair is a modified hime cut (the fringe drawn back, and just past the shoulder it is tied in a braid). She has a slender frame, and the less we say about the numerous tattoos the better.

Alethea's Taijutsu style focuses on successfully applying seals to the opponent - strength is not a direct requirement in this way. Strikes focus on simply making contact with the body, and often aimed in such a way as to hit the arms or legs should they be used to block. For defense, the style favors the deflection or redirection of incoming attacks via slaps with the palm, catching, or shoving - all of which allow for maximum body contact and additional opportunities to apply seals to the opponent, while at the same time maneuvering in the opposite direction. The style is very fluid, and users tend to orbit around their opponents in response to attacks, stepping around, ducking, and leaning over in a continuous chain, like the shifting of a snake, while shoving or slapping away blows while taking as many chances as possible to apply seals to the target's body.

Alethea carries hollow senbon - their nature allows for the application of seals within their interior, allowing Alethea to seal opponents from long range by throwing senbon at them. Currently, her fuinjutsu is not advanced enough to allow her to use the Weapon Sealed Technique, but through the use of mundane sealing she can still conjure as many senbon as she can hold (up to twelve) and then throw them with a single practiced motion.

• Secret Technique - The secret technique passed down within the Shīru family is a simple hand seal. Using special seals engraved on the palms of both hands along with other methods that are unknown to those outside of the family, members of the Shīru clan can perform any jutsu using a single hand seal, completely forgoing the use of the traditional twelve and sub-variant hand seals. This is accomplished by the design of the seals, portions of which can consciously be activated and deactivated by the user, and each channeling chakra in a specific fashion similar to the manipulation inherent to regular hand seals. The Butterfly Hand Seal therefore shapes and configures chakra in the same way regular hand seals do, the distinction lying within the ability to perform all necessary manipulation within a single instant without having to actually form every individual hand seal.
  
  Users of the Butterfly Hand Seal still must memorize regular hand seals, as to use their own hand seal correctly they must fully understand the sequence through which other techniques are typically used. It is also more error-prone than the regular hand sealing method, as a single disturbance occurring at the same moment the hand seal is formed could disrupt the forming jutsu and result in a massive waste of chakra, or potentially even blow up in the user's face. However the window of time to interrupt the hand seal forming is very small - once the user has brought their hands together, they are essentially done. As ninja outside of the Shīru clan can learn to more efficiently use hand seals (potentially only requiring one hand seal to perform specific jutsu, using one hand to perform a series of hand seals, not needing hand seals whatsoever, etcetera), so too can users of the Butterfly hand seal - it is considered ordinary for members of the clan to have mastered a handful of techniques to such an extent that they no longer need to use hand seals at all by the time they have reached the level of jounin.
  
  In addition to being able to perform any jutsu using a single hand seal, the special seals engraved upon the palms allows users to engrave seals of virtually any shape onto any surface they make contact with, and as such the Shīru family has a unique style of Taijutsu which focuses on strikes that apply debilitating seals to the target.
  
  Techniques that copy the movements of others (such as the Sharingan) cannot replicate the results of a Butterfly seal since the user would not have the necessary palm seals, or know the necessary information kept secret by the family. A Byakugan user would be able to see the flow of chakra within a Butterfly hand seal, but the condensed manner in which the technique forms chakra would make the result impossible to make sense of until the technique had already completed. The seals engraved upon the palms of members of the Shīru family, by themselves, are useless - they are required in conjunction with additional information only known to members of the family. When a member of the family dies, they take the secret with them.

I'd be glad to have you on board, if you'd do the following things:

1. Listen to what us lore-freaks and Narunerds have to say about Jutsu and abilities and the like - we know more than you do, obviously.

2. Watch the first few episodes, or read a few chapters of the Manga.

Of course, you also have me, resident Research and Interpretation Master. Not only am I well-versed with the Naruverse, I'm also skilled at quickly obtaining and relaying information in clear, concise points. However, my views will be more bland, like a historian, than those of greater fan. It's a trade-off.

On a sidenote, I'm also the most rooted individual with the plot and minor tweaks of this specific roleplay, so in some cases I may need to enlighten some roleplay values.
