I don't know how many of you will have heard of this game series, since they are PSP games that never actually left Japan. But in Japan it is essentially consider the PSP's answer to the Ace Attorney series. And recently it has become pretty popular in the West due to a Let's Play of the game on the SomethingAwful forums that translated the dialog, as well as an upcoming a fantranslation, and an anime adaption that is coming up sometime next year.
Essentially, the premise is that a bunch of students that excel in one subject or aspect (Like baseball, writing, video games, good luck) are accepted into a a very prominent high school. However, on the first day of school they are all captured and locked inside of the school. They are told that they are stuck there forever and that the only way to escape is to 'graduate'. However, the only way to graduate is to kill another student and get away with it. If someone kills another student, then a trial is held to decide who the killer is. If the correct person is identified as the killer, then they are executed. However, if the wrong person is identified then everyone else is executed and the killer is able to graduate and escape.
I'll elaborate more, but I just want to see if anyone would be interested in an RP like that.

In the first game (I have yet to play the second game, since it only just recently came out and it takes forever to import games from Japan for a reasonable price) the trial didn't come to an end until there was a general consensus on who the killer was.Originally Posted by ProfessorNemo
If the killer dies before the trial, then they still have to be charged with murder. So that also means, for example, if someone commits suicide, then the others still need to figure out that the victim actually committed suicide If someone is murdered before the current investigation is over, then the next investigation starts immediately after.
Although, one thing that I'm not sure about is how I'm going to portray the roleplay. Because the game series itself is between the lines of absurdity and serious. All of the characters are over the top and hardly realistic. But the situations going on are fairly serious and not played for laughs.
Also, I'm considering changing the name. Danganronpa (Bullet Rebuttal) doesn't really fit it, since the name actually comes from a game mechanic. One of the stylistic draws of the game is that evidence are treated as bullets, and during the courtroom sections while people are giving testimonies you 'shoot' evidence at them to prove them wrong. The games also have a naming scheme for all of the characters to describe their talent, which involves placing 'Super High School Level' before their talent. So for example, the main character's title is 'Super High School Level Good Luck', and then there are others whose titles are things like 'Super High School Level Idol', 'Super High School Level Gangleader', 'Super High School Level Gambler', etc. So I was considering naming the RP something like 'Super High School Level Roleplay'.
Dangan Ronpa is an awesome game. I'm not sure how the actual murder mystery/trial thing will translate into rp, but I'd definitely be interested in participating.

I've run quite a few RP-light mystery games before, and they all went pretty well. All of the murders and secrets will be discussed with me in private.
