When we told him what the last vet had told us, he looked like he was about to vomit. That was when we found out it was a tumor and if we had found our sooner, we could have saved him. He died shortly after that. We kept him comfortable in the shed, with a heater and some blankets and then I would sleep with him at night until my dad would wake me up.

I had to go to school one day, so I went out to the back and gave him a hug and I told him I loved him. Kid stuff, you know? And when I came back home, I learned he had passed on shortly after I had left. It was so heartbreaking for me. But it's comforting to know that he isn't in pain any more and that's just you'll have to keep reminding yourself.
The vet looked like he was about to vomit due to what he saw in the dog or due to the egregious error the other vet had made?

Luckily my vet is pretty good and she knew just the trick to soothe anything wrong with my cat caused from the problem but it's gotten too bad. Too many alternate symptoms have arisen and it's been a year now. It's been a very slow decline but she hasn't seemed to feel it except when she vomits. She has pancreatits and kidney failure. We have her on ringers lactate fluid along with pepsid and ondancetron for nausea(sp?) and she also gets a daily dose of pumpkim which she loves. So basically a cat's version of kidney dialasis. In the end it isn't really that that's getting her, she seems to feel no pain. But due to the vomitting caused by the pancreatitis she doesn't eat as much as she should and what she does 75% comes back to haunt her. She's getting skinny and it's just the end of the line.

I'm assuming your dog's tumor was in the mouth, correct? Because it was assumed to be an abscessed tooth? One of my grandma's cats was put down because he had jaw cancer. There are 3 main causes of jaw cancer in cats 1 flea collars 2 being fed tuna on a regular basis (it contains mercury) 3 being around a smoker. All of which the cat was subjected to.

Because of the error the other vet had made, really. And yes, it was in his mouth. I probably should have made that more clear.

It's good that your cat isn't in any pain. I'm sure you would know if she is. Is this the cat you had as your avatar for a little while?

A little over a year ago we had to put down a dog we rescued from off the streets. As we had no idea about her medical history or lineage, her suddenly developing a genetic disease really knocked us off our feet.

    The worst parts were
    1) The odds of it happening in her breed were miniscule percentages
    2) It was supposed to happen slowly, not in the course of a weekend
    3) I was notified just before I was due to do some extra work, which got promptly thrown out the window

It was just so sudden, and she was so young it really hit my entire family. We were all wrecks for a good month afterward. The disease effectively started up, and trashed her kidneys and liver in the process of two days. So, I really understand what you're going through, and have felt the same pain three times over.

*hugs* Knowing they're not in pain does help more than you realize at the moment.

What exactly was it your dog had? Sounds like an odd disease.

I'd Hug you blue, but I don't know you that well so hugging you might be a bit strange... >_>

So... I guess I'll just pat your shoulder and tell you everything is going to be alright.

Wait... Hugging strangers is a bad thing? :C

    I've hugged strangers before...

I was a strange teenager. Still am. I'd probably still do it if I was in the mood lol

Hugging strangers isn't bad, just keep track of your wallet.
