I do like the idea of an elven lord, but I also have this idea for a party of adventuring dwarves, questing along the misty mountains in search of an ancient dwarven home or something like that. I would probably play the elder dwarf, and others taking on positions in the group. Does that idea interest anyone? It seems more middle-earthy than a mixed group of adventurers, which is a rare occurrence.

Forcing race selection isn't a very good idea, at least in my opinion. Not everyone likes the idea of being a dwarf.

While I will agree that seeing Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli together was quite rare, so too would I say that most fantasy stories worth telling are indeed rare occurrences, and ours would be no exception.

I was planning on playing a Haradrim treasure hunter who defected from the Southron in favor of a more profitable lifestyle.

True. And that is a very good character idea.

    Here's a rough character skeleton-

    NAME:

    RACE:

    OCCUPATION:

    APPEARANCE:

    BACKGROUND:

    PERSONALITY:

    EQUIPMENT:

I'll probably end up playing an Elf lord or a ranger.

I love the idea and I play on the RP server on LOTRO. I am definatly interested in joining in the rp as I am probably the biggest lord of the rings/hobbit/middle earth fanatic out there. (No life) xP

    NAME: Amsel, thirdson of Amhern

    RACE: Man (Haradrim)

OCCUPATION: Treasure hunter, thief, and occasional hireling, but he prefers to introduce himself as a profiteer.

APPEARANCE: Amsel is a dark-skinned man of average height, and quite a bit skinnier than most, lacking muscle definition. As with other men from Harad, Amsel has an Arabian look about him, although, considering he keeps himself covered in facial wraps, it's often hard to see his face. Brown eyes and very short (almost buzzed) black hair adorn his head, and a thick layer of stubble covers his chin.

Amsel dresses in the garb of his Harad tribe, wearing loose red garments with light scaled armor covered in tribal markings. As is customary for males in his tribe, he covers his face (sace for his eyes) with a black facewrap, wearing a red cloth headwrap over this as personal preference. A valued treasure he received from his father, he is rarely seen without his golden scaled gauntlets and boots, into which his pants and sleeves are tucked.

    BACKGROUND:

PERSONALITY: Amsel does not even attempt to exude the cold, hardened exterior commonly associated with the Haradrim. Condescending, arrogant, and accompanied by a ridiculous sense of self-entitlement, it can be very hard to get along with Amsel if he doesn't respect you. Earning his respect requires a lot of one of two things; money or power. He's a very verbose person if need be, and is quite good at talking his way out a bind, for lack of a better term, mostly due to being the son of a Haradrim chief.

EQUIPMENT: Forgoing the typical Haradrim preference of bows or scimitars, Amsel carries one of his most highly valued treasures into battle; a sword meant to be wielded by a newly crowned chief, forged as an offering from an accomplished Haradrim swordsmith. However, the blade was deemed unsatisfactory by the chief, who then ordered the swordsmith and his family killed. The blade was discarded and fell into disrepair, until Amsel stole it from a roving peddler and had it restored. The signature of the swordsmith, Marken, is engraved near the middle of the blade, giving the sword a great deal of value to fellow Haradrim, but meaning little to the other men of Middle Earth.

I'll get the background up tomorrow, it's a bit late tonight.

That is an awesome sheet! I think I'll be doing a ranger as it would be quite interesting to see how the personalities matched up.

@OrigamiDoll: I used to play LOTRO, would roleplay a family of adventuring hobbits, the Twofootses. There was Willis, Willarm, Williana, and Willisina. Very interesting...

OOC is going to go up if a third person doesn't show interest in about an hour!

If I may make a suggestion, it would be a good idea for you to add a skills and an inventory section to the characters.

Inventory sections cover things that don't necessarily fall under equipment (books, money, lockpicks, potions, spell ingredients, food, and other such small things), and prevent people from pulling stuff out of thin air in a pinch.

Skills/weaknesses sections allow us to clearly delineate what characters are and aren't particularly good at. For example, for Amsel, I would note that he is a very fast runner, has a great deal of stamina, is skilled in acrobatics, and has a talent for picking locks and pockets. I would also note that he lacks upper body strength, being a slender young man, making him disadvantaged in direct combat, and that he also lacks proper training with a sword. By clearly explaining his strengths and weaknesses ahead of time, it prevents me from pulling skills out of thin air, like speaking to birds or knowing fire magic.

Another good addition would be a a "Misc" section, which basically catches anything that doesn't fall under the other sections, like knowing other languages or having a fondness for cherry pie. It's just a nice thing to have for those of us who like to add little tidbits like that to our character.
