A cart was brought forth with several levels, the empty dishes were put on them and the men tending to the cart shifted the dishes to fit them all in the shelves. The knights put the dishes up themselves and wandered away to their other activities. The noise of the conversation died, a hush rippled and a few knights hurried out of the way of a green haired knight that appeared by the near empty stew pot. Maxwell's muscle mass was less defined, her skin two shades lighter. Her hair in the style echoed that of Dean's instead of the buzz cut she normally sported.

Kayla shifted uncomfortably when Maxwell sat heavily at Dean's table. "How's life?" Dean asked with a grin.

"Ask me tomorrow," Maxwell grumbled around her mouthful.

Bruce peered at Gabriel for the first time since she sat down. "You ready? I have the package. I think this is a good time to skitter."

Gabe carefully followed suit with the rest of the knights, placing his empty bowl of stew and spoon onto the tray. He then returned to his table, mainly because he still wasn't quite certain who exactly Bruce was.

However, when a general hush went over the crowd, Gabriel followed everyone's eyes to a new young woman who had just walked into the eating area.

Gae stared at her, brows wrinkled. Her face looked remarkably familiar, but... she looked like that soldier that he had fought with, the one who had been following the commander around. But she wasn't. Anyone could see that was a fully different person, many years younger, hair longer than anybody could have it grow in a few hours, skin tone wrong. Common sense told him this was a completely different person, yet there was such a resemblance between them...

One of the knights who had been sitting around his table leaned over and asked him if he was ready to go. He assumed that this must be Bruce. Gabe nodded vaguely, still staring at the new girl. She must be important if she could just sit down at the commander's table, but if she was so important why hadn't he seen her before?

He would have to question Bruce on their journey to New York. If she thought now would be a good time to leave he would probably do well to listen to her.
Well I'm a sucker for fine Cuban cigars, The problem is I can't afford 'em, But last year I went and got myself a whole box, And just to be safe I insured 'em

I took out a policy against fire and theft, And then I hurried home, With a fifty-cent lighter I sat on my back steps, And I smoked 'em one by one

Two weeks later I went to see that insurance man, And I handed in my claim, With a straight face I told him that through a series of small fires, They'd all gone up in flames

They reviewed my case and they had no choice, But to pay me for what I'd done, And I took that check and bought a whole new box, And I smoked 'em one by one

Two weeks later this detective shows up, Tells me that company's pressin' charges, One speedy trial later they locked me up, On twenty-four separate counts of arson

And now I sit and I stare at a blank brick wall, Lookin' back on what I've done, To pass the time I've got some ten-cent cigars, And I smoke 'em one by one

Bruce lead the way down the steps through a long hallway with doors on either side. Bruce eased the door open and peeked through it before she stuck her head in and whistled. A quick deep vibration came from the room. Once she located the source of the noise she turned to Gabriel. "Now, whatever you do. Don't. Scream." She said holding up her index finger. "Spot doesn't like it and he is been moody."

She shoved the door open all the way, and stepped into a large cargo hold. Large crates filled with food stuff, blankets and other supplies nearly reached the high ceiling. Bruce crouching by a box and opened the lid, she lifted out a large hunk of meat and some stale bread. "Stick close," she stated and heading toward the back of the room. The thundering noise came again and the scraping against the crates. In the back near the large doors was a small flat bottom skimmer resting on supports. It had two benches and a sturdy pole that rose from the stern and spread in a wishbone at the top.

"There she is," Bruce announced. "Spot, come on baby. We need to go for a run." She glanced at Gabriel. "Jump in."

Ok. Not screaming. He could pull that off, certainly. If it was one of those strange disappearing cats, he might flinch, but he wouldn't scream.

With light sure steps he followed after Bruce, only to pause when he saw a skimmer. That was Spot?

He allowed a quiet chuckle to slip from his lips. It looked like Bruce had been teasing him. But, you never knew with women. Just in case he decided that it would be best to keep on his guard. He didn't want to really upset some angry beastie.

He hopped into the skimmer moments behind Bruce and settled into some seats, trying to sort out all of the questions. Which were most important, which could wait?

But best to wait a minute or two. In case of moody beasts. He was almost certain he was taking her statement way to seriously....

Bruce put the meat on the wishbone and whistled. "Come on Spot, I need you. Don't be afraid, Gabriel will not hurt you."

The sound of large wings beating in a high rate of speed brought a six foot blue dragonfly from on top of one of the crates to the skimmer. Landing on the wishbone causing the skimmer to lift slightly in the front. The tongue of the creature beat against the handful of meat. "Good boy," she said as the eyes moved about searching for more food. Bruce lifted the harness from behind her seat and strapped the creature to the wishbone.

She reached to the wall and unlocked the bay doors before sitting on the driver seat. Her feet on the pedals, she tapped on a square next to her seat activated the runes on the bottom of the boat causing it rise. She put on some goggles crafted from transparent beetle casings and a leather strip. "Go," she ordered and the wings flapped like a little engine moving the skimmer forward. "You better hold on," she called over the deep vibration.

Well, apparently the hovercraft hadn't been "spot". But Gabe saw no reason to scream at the giant insect. Giant spider, perhaps, but the dragonfly was actually quite beautiful. Although the fact that it was carnivorous was... slightly worrisome. He would have to put his trust in Bruce.

However, when Bruce put on goggles, Gabe suddenly got the impression that he wasn't going to be able to ask his questions after all. Not unless he planned to shout them over the noise of the dragonfly's wingbeats and, in all likelihood, the wind from the speed of their travel.

He would have to save them for later. Again.

Gabe looped his legs around the feet of his seat, an clutched his fingers on the edge of the seat. He scooted his butt all the way back and leaned into the back of the seat. Hopefully that would be enough to secure himself. He suddenly remembered the whole reason they were doing this, and tucked the package that held the pieces of jewelry between his upper thighs. They weren't going anywhere. Not unless he was catapulted out of the hovercraft, of course.

The craft was fully off the end of Harrow's cargo hold, Spot stopped pushing and tucked his wings as best as he could. The craft dropped like a rock toward the water surface, Bruce whooping as they fell the twenty or so feet. The buffer displaced the water with a soft slap, enough to displace a butt to the side. Spot began to fly again pushing the boat forward, Bruce angled the boat toward the island, the wishbone shifted allowing the boat to turn in the direction she desired.

Spot stopped after a full minute of wing beats and rested on the wishbone, Bruce leaned forward pushing her goggles up on her forehead. She liked to wear them for no other reason. "Where too?" she pointed at the jagged peaks of the city beyond. "Spot is a sprinter, he has to rest between beats." The boat didn't loose a lot of momentum as they coasted over the water.

The city ship was to their right still creating a dip in the water's surface. A lot of smaller ships moved around it like a beehive. She sighed and put her foot up on the bar above the pedals. "Not the fastest way to travel," she shrugged her shoulder. "It appeals to me."

Gabe nodded, staring with fascination at the city ship floating over the water. He had seen skyscrapers and 747's, but this may as well have been a flying building. They may not have technology as Gabe knew it, but they certainly knew how to utilize their magic well.

Not that it was really unexpected. Human nature prompted people to build and improve off of what they had, and he had to assume that these people weren't much different, only with different resources to work with.

"We are going to have to walk a bit, no matter where we wind up landing. The Mayor's office isn't near the... coast. So the closest shore would probably be best."

Gabe scooted forward in his seat just a little, watching the water course by below them. It was a fascinating and very free method of travel, to be sure.

"Can I ask you some questions?"

Bruce frowned wondering if she should have brought another knight with her. She hadn't thought about leaving the boat for long. Not that she was afraid for her own life, she worried more for Gabriel. She didn't know why he had left his people, hopefully it wouldn't come to bite them in the rear. She would do her best to keep them alive, she wasn't one of the best fighters in the group. Her lower rank proved that far to well. She did do what ever mission was given to her to the best of her ability.

Spot took another minutes of the trip to propel the small boat forward before resting again. "Sure, ask away," she adjusted the goggles on her forehead and around her ears before leaning back on the seat. She loved her boat, it has come in handy more than once since she turned from trapping to knighthood.

The first thing that Gabe longed to ask about was the green-haired woman who had come into the dining hall. Who had looked so very familiar. However, now was probably not the time to satisfy his personal curiosity. He was going to be delivering a communication system to the Mayor, and the Mayor was likely to recognize that Gabe was the closest they had to an expert on this new race. He wanted to be able to answer their questions quickly and efficiently, so as to be able to get out of there as soon as possible.

So, where to start? What would a politician most want to know about. The system of hierarchy, certainly, but Gabe had a general idea of that. Well enough that it probably wasn't the thing to ask.

The magic would be the next thing.

"Can you explain... magic? a little better?"
