Nice looking work.
I really like the ideas and the colors you are implementing.
I assume that you're just using your mouse to sketch everything?
So, I have decided to share my next Painting in a WIP. ^.^ Enjoy. I'll add some comments on my thoughts as I move along. This is all with GIMP. No photoshop. No Tablet. No extra anything. Just GIMP. >.> What I always use...
WIP #1:
So, my idea for this sketch basically... came at random. I like Surreal stuff, and what is more surreal than Alice in Wonderland? eh? but... I hate drawing women. O.o Idk.. don't ask. And I didn't want to do something cliche'. Sooo.... I am putting my own take onto it. ^.^ I tumbled with the sketch for quite a bit. There was various things I wasn't sure on. If I wanted to do that or not. I ended up changing the backdrop quite a few times before settling on this. The basic idea was still the same though. I just wanted to make sure I could get a good backdrop that will allow me to give plenty of colors to the image for an otherworldly feel. So... this is what I settled on. You'll see why when I start coloring.
WIP #2:
So, here we go. I just added some basic colors. Mostly the Gradient tool. I tumbled with the Hue/Saturation/Light tool a bit to find some interesting colors. Added a few shades of colors in various places to give it some interesting lighting. I think it looks kind of neat... though basic. Very basic.
WIP #3:
This one was just adding some extra sketching and some background, which I actually like. I had some background prior to this that felt... very generic, specially for what I am shooting for in this piece. I wanted something a little more mysterious and illuminating. The start of this one seems to do just that compared to the plain green and browns of my previous background.
WIP #4
Most of this was spent on the mushroom and it's lighting. Still not quite sure about it, but I'll see. Keeping it in it's own separate layer for now. I'll see where that goes. Some of the pinkish color was removed from this from the original background, which I didn't care for removing... so you will probably see more of it later. I enjoyed the feel of it. Happens when you use odd colors, I guess. XD I am starting work on the tree a little. The green was removed so that I could work on the base of it a little more then get back into that. The tree is gonna take A LOT of work. >.< I can already tell... specially to get it the way I want it! but... not giving up till I get it right! Oh, and there is some grass. >.> I suck at grass, so I tried to make it as minimal as I could. I'll probably go back later and try to make it a little more realistic... as realistic as this piece can get anyways. I haven't used this much color in a painting for a long time! XD
WIP #5
Coloring and Detail on Tree and door, as well as some coloring on the clock. Some Ground texture.
WIP #6
Added some more value and color to the male figure, with small details elsewhere.
