    Mouse Guard (Intrest Check)

Death is as powerful a weapon
as it is an easy escape.
    Heroes can pass into legends,
    legends into myths.
    Myths fuel new heroes.

—The last recorded words of the Black Axe, Champion of the Mouse Guard

    The Mouse Guard
"Hail all those who are able,
    any mouse can,
    any mouse will,
    but the Guard prevail."

    - Mouse Proverb

    The Guard's Oath
The following is the oath that all mice must swear when they are inducted into the ranks of the Guard.

    We as Guard offer all
that we are to protect the sanctity
of our species, the freedom of
our kin, and the honor of our
    ancestors. With knowledge,
sword, and shield, we do these
    deeds, never putting a lone
mouse above the needs of all, or
the desire of self above another.
We strive for no less than to
    serve the greatest good.

The Duties of the Mouse Guard
"Send any mouse to do the job,
it may or may not be done.
Ask the Guard to do the task,
even death cannot prevent it from completion."

    - Mouse Proverb

    The Territories
    "Our place in the world:
Should it be as small as we stand, or as large as we desire?
A question only answered by our willingness to find out."

—from a speech made by Talor, last mouse to journey east from Wolfepointe

    The War of 1149
    "Clouds, leaves, soil and wind
    all offer themselves as signals
    of changes in the weather.
However, not all storms of life can be predicted."
—Excerpt from “Weather Watcher’s Field Guide” distributed to all guardmice

    The Patrol
"Heroes fall, heroes break, heroes bleed.
They shed bitter tears, pull themselves up, not to concede.
Often are they waylaid and frequent they mourn.
Heroes are rarely made and even more seldom born.
Not till after they die, do mice sing of their tale.
A job, a duty, a thankless obligation not to fail.
Still many a mouse think only the name is required.
    What becomes of them?
    They either quit or expire."

—“A Heroes’ Warning” by the Scribe Roibin

I think it is a great idea, but pretty gory. Could we tone down the violence if I were involved in the roleplay?

I wasn't planning on going to graphic with this. However, there will be blood shed from time to time, and mice will be eaten by predators. The struggle for survival is one of the main themes of the comic, and I don't want to remove that.

Now that being said, Mouse Guard is more about outwitting your enemies than killing them. We are still Mice, even if we're mice with swords and axes. We travel in patrols of up to 6 mice, we aren't going to be fighting things head on most of the time. We're going to be trying to outsmart them, and rather than killing, we'll be driving things off. The game actually prevents us from being able to kill predators as large as a Fox. Things bigger than that seem godlike to us, and are impervious to mundane attacks.

Oh shit negro, I am so pumped for this biz.

I've had a Mouseguard character in mind for the longest time with no chance to use him.

    Oh lawdy lawdy, so excited!

Very, very interesting. Also original (in RPG's terms).
You can count me as wanting to join.

Wow, this seems pretty freakin legit. I've never even heard of Mouse Guard but I'm fairly well versed in Redwall so I can probably make it work.

Just wondering about some of the less self explanatory traits like Deep Ear, Lost, BigPaw & Guard's Honor and whatnot. What effect do these have, or do we only get to find out secretly if we pick them?

Added a section that details what the Skills and Traits mean.

Finished most of the character creation outline. I'll get the official character sheet up soon. It will be an example character sheet (I don't want to create my character until I see what you guys come up with), format yours in the exact same way as the example.

Edit: Example is done. If you wish to use your cloak colors for the bold text it is fine, just don't do your whole sheet in color. Your Brief history should obviously be longer, this is just a short example. Your friends can be players, but note that any NPC friends will be controlled by me. Enemies will also be controlled by me, so give me a complete description of them in PM form and I will bring them to life in the game. Picture is not required, but if you do have a pic of your character, that is where you will put it.

    Saxon
    Sex: Male
    Age: 28
    Fur Color: Brown
    Home: Flintrust
    Rank: Patrol Guard
    Cloak: Red

    Brief History
Saxon is a fiery and stubborn mouse, famous in the Guard for his skill in battle. Although he had enough experience to be promoted to patrol leader, Saxon passed up the opportunity in order to remain in his friend Kenzie’s patrol.

    Parents: Gill & Anne
    Mentor: Loukas (deceased)
    Friends: Kenzie, Samuel
    Enemies: Roarke

Belief: The best solution is always found at the point of my sword.
Instinct: Always draw my sword at the first sign of trouble.
Goal: I will protect Kenzie and Lieam on this mission.

Skills: Fighter, Pathfinder, Survivalist, Carpenter, Weaver, Deceiver

    Traits: Short, Fearless, Bold

Gear (Resource 1): Sword and a belt
