Cora swam away furiously, her fists tightened at her side as her tail picked speed, pushing her further and further away from her agitating father. " You must marry him." she mocks, as she reaches pure open blue, a safe feeling washing through her. " He's a good merman. He'll take care of you and the kingdom." she goes on and on, mocking him in the best deep voice she could manage. " But I don't love him!" she says, exasperated. The wedding was soon enough, and she was to marry a man of thirty years of age. Married twice before, three children, half her age. How was that to work? It disgusted her, the vile coming to the back of her throat as she thought about it. Did her father not understand? She wanted to be free, and swim on her own. No children to worry about, no one to control her. She does a few circular flips, trying to entertain herself. Moving along, she swims over a little cave, which she enters through the opposite side. In it, was her secret hiding place. Here, were all sorts of things she had collected, mysterious things from the world above. A few mighty weapons were in here, but she never planned to use them. She lays her head on one of the large stone rocks inside the cave, abd tries to relax, clearing her mind. Finding it difficult, she resorts to one last thing, her song.
" And in the dark, I can hear your heartbeat, I've tried to find the sun. But then it stops, and I was innthe darkness. Of darkness I became..." she swims out of the cave, singing to herself as she swims upwards.
" The stars, the moon. They have all been blown out. You have left me in the dark. No dawn, no day. I'm always in this twilight. In the shadows of your heart... I took the stars from my eyes and made a map. And I knew that somehow, I could find myway back. Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness to. So I stayed in the darkness with you..." she stops suddenly, as she giggles, her eyes looking up to see a large shadow pass over. What was it? What could it hold? Her head pops up from the water, just in time to watch a boy get pestered by some chunky guy with a pudgy and scarred face. He falls back into a bucket of dirty water and Cora instantly hisses as the crew emerges into laughter. The poor boy. Just like her, laughed at by her people for her want of freedom, to explore without question and not be tied down to raising a family and doing a normal mermaid's duty. She wanted the open waters, the new fish. And here he was being laughed at. She ducks back under the water and decides on following it. Why not? She had nothing else to do today. But before long, her mesmerization of the boy led her to a death wish. Sea devil territory.
