Hm... he could be schizophrenic. That's a good ticking time bomb aspect of mentality, if there were one.

As for the Achenaran Imperium reference... basically, it's the alien race of which my main character is a member. Since they possess advanced genetic engineering technology and like to augment their soldiers, there's no reason for them NOT to introduce the psycher gene to every single combat soldier if it enhances their performance. And well... Achenaran troops are powerful enough already, they don't need to be psychers too.

There is a possibility also that your character was... altered, in some way, by Zikaren biotechs. As for which way... I'm not entirely certain, still.

Well, more emphasis on the BOMB part, as I want there to be something of a dangerous, destructive element to him. Like, reason for someone to say, "Put him in a vacuum-sealed, claustrophobic environment in the middle of space? With us? Are you crazy?"

A fun little idea I just thought of: the Achenarans actually managed to find a psychic and wanted to experiment on them to see how to make their troops psychers. The psychic in question didn't take kindly to that idea, and evaporated an entire city. They haven't messed with psychics since.

That is... probably entirely too powerful. If you can evaporate a city, you can evaporate a starship. With a single person.

Hm... perhaps he had an energy weapon or some point implanted into his arm or something, and can "shoot fireballs" with it. That's a pretty clear second-law violation on someone's part.

Every psychic is different, I wasn't implying that my character would be able to do that.

And that suggestion is... not even close to what I wanted to do with my character? I don't want to sound whiny, or whatever, but I spelled out exactly direction I wanted to take with my character. At this point I consider it to simply be a matter of whether you're willing to accept an honest-to-goodness psychic into your universe.

No, no honest to goodness psychic... if it can't be explained with some sort of pseudoscience, it's magic, and yeah, no magic.

Alright, would you permit it if I could conjure up a vague explanation for the theory behind it, but leave the means a mystery?

I'm curious the theory, but I'm rather skeptical. Will hear you out.

    Alright, here goes.

Brainwaves are actually far more potent that current science holds. One could refer to this as "the psychic potential inside everyone", but that's actually false, as "true" brainwaves are only even detectable by specific individuals, refered to as psychics, psions, psychers or ESPers. These people have the ability to perceive and manipulate brainwaves, in as well as detect and interpret residual brainwaves in an area, or on objects. In essence, a sixth sense. Their power increases exponentially as they become more experienced with it, eventually extending to all waves, giving them mastery over matter and energy.

As I mentioned, my character isn't particularly powerful, outside of his telepathic abilities, which are relatively potent. Just a disclaimer.

Hm... I'm not really buying that as many of the galaxy's races have long since delved the deeper workings of brain activity with neural induction technology, brainpeeling, etc. I have it down pretty solid that brain activity is just a series of electrical impulses between neurons... been using the tech for quite some time, after all.

That's the trick to it though, only psychics can detect these "true brainwaves". Their very existence is pure theory based on observations of psychics. Why or how they can interact with these waves is an absolute mystery to modern science, and by far one of the most puzzling ones. That's the method, which I told you I'd leave unknown.
