The robot absorbed the information it was provided, noting the New Vegas area as dangerous. Mr. House and his Fiends were categorized as unlikely allies for the cause. Dep was unaware of what a Securitron was, but recognized the similarity in name to the Protectron, but with the word 'security' in place of 'protect'. It likely served a similar function as a security robot. "This unit thanks you for the information, and will avoid New Vegas in the future." It briefly observed the death of the mantis, which seemed to startle the female human. Understandable since, given the suddenness of the action and the humans' limited perception, it would be probable that there were additional hostile targets in that direction if there were something worth eliminating. In the wasteland it was rare to encounter a lone hostile, as most creatures operated in groups. "Scans indicate no additional hazards approaching at this time," the machine stated reassuringly.
The female was offering a place to stay, and a means of recharge. While Dep's power source was capable of running for long periods of time, it was now brought to its attention that without human companions any replacement with a new power source would be useless. The machine could not replace its own power source once the old one was removed. Jacobstown, as it was called, was also a secure location if all claims by the humans were true. Isolated, and defended by non-hostile supermutants, it was an unlikely target for many possible threats. Unfortunately, remaining in one place would not fulfill Dep's objectives.
"The use of Jacobstown as a base of operations in the area is acceptable. A secure power source at which to recharge is also a valuable long-term resource, and this unit is certain the cause will be grateful for your assistance. This unit's primary directive will, however, require extensive travel," Dep observed the area, "You two appear to be departing from this location. This unit has no definite location to observe, and the likelihood of success now that this unit is operating alone would be unacceptable should it wander without aim. Therefore, this unit offers its services to you for the time being. Field capabilities include medical services, demolitions, and precision close-quarters combat. Auto-doc limbs unsuitable to operation of most firearms, in particular automatic weapons. Hypothetically, the use of thrown weapons is possible. Additional information can be provided upon request; this unit believes that you are trustworthy. Is this acceptable?"
Not the only spy
"Great!" Exclaimed Alexis. "It's great to have you along, Dep!" Alexander cut in suddenly. "Alexis, we need to get moving. The caravan will be here soon..." Alexander also considered Dep's offer of companionship. Reluctantly, but gratefully, Alexander thought he should accept. "I don't see a problem with you coming along with us. We're only going to the foot of the mountain to meet a caravan, then we're heading back up to Jacobstown." Alexander, again, felt like the robot was examining him. It creeped him out....but he dealt with it. Alexis was already moving. "Well, come on guys! That caravan will only wait for so long!" Alexander took off after her.
