Dangerous Investigations and Strange Changes – SF/horror
Inside the facility:
The sphere - hanging in mid-air just as it shouldn't - has a soft glow to it. The walkways assembled around it are too numerous and to conforming to its shape for them to not have been designed for exactly this. There are signs mounted around it:
DO NOT TOUCH THE SPHERE
If you touch the sphere call for an emergency pack.
Emergency packs are located around the sphere.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRAG OTHERS
IN WITH YOU OR YOU WILL BE SHOT.

On the ground level a forklift backs into a makeshift wooden cabinet crushing it. As the pieces fall away you can see the remains of a person – you think. But the longer you look the less certain you are since the remains seem fused into an electronics console. The workers quickly move a screen to block the view then bring over another wooden cabinet. Then you can hear power ratchets and the broken cabinet is removed and the new one put in place.

Your characters were chosen to investigate an unusual incident just outside of a small city in northern Illinois. The company that owns the facility has a government contract for developing new military technology. Reports came in to the police of an explosion or lightning strikes – from a clear sky. The police were turned away at the gate being told that everything was being taken care of. However they were able to observe irregular holes in the large main building.
.
You can be a representative from the military conducting an official investigation or an intelligence operative sneaking in to find out for your organization (USA or other country) what happened. Other possibilities exist but will be more limited.
.
This will be your characters' introduction into the deeper secrets of the game world. Secrets of governments, corporations, covert intelligence agencies, bioweapons, wormholes, and whether there is any truth to stories about psychic powers, vampires or aliens.

I haven't done much online gaming but a lot of roleplaying IRL. Being my first online RP, I'm going to be running it more like a RL RPG. So I won't have a character in the game per se, I will be playing the NPCs with the main NPCs being almost exclusively mine. I will post descriptions of NPCs – physical and behavior but not their skills and knowledges – so you will have an idea of how they will act and respond in general. The minor ones can be used by you (in an appropriate manner, obviously) in your posts so you don't have to wait on me for everything. Minor actions by the major NPCs will probably be okay for you to describe – unless you get close to a secret then I will post something in the OOC or IC (whichever's appropriate).
You can suggest plotlines in the OOC (before you introduce them in IC) and I might incorporate them but I will veto any that conflict with the planned plotlines. Or it might get approved but for introduction later when it would fit in better. While this is not a sandbox, I do accept player suggestions.
I am taking material from a series of novels and blending in some material from a series of movies. I may use a couple other sources depending upon comments by people in this Interest Check thread and in the OOC thread (once it is created – assuming there is enough interest)

I'm thinking this might be best as High Casual – if I correctly understand the category.
