If you're looking to get started nice and quickly, I'd recommend starting with the Guild's Guide. It should answer most of your questions.

Well, I haven't really looked around the Interest Check sections as of yet, busy with my own roleplays. I'm sure if you check through some of the interest check sections of the forum (found just below each category of roleplay) you can find a good sci-fi roleplay.
