The Pain of Survival -- OOC

EDIT 2/18: I've re-opened the thread. If you want to join, I expect you to READ THE THREAD. It's 2 pages and a post, not too much to ask.

    IC THREAD

For anyone wanting to join, this is a Walking Dead world based RP. I laid out my thoughts in the Int Check, which I have quoted below.

As far as GMing goes, I'm pretty laid back. So long as you're not acting stupid or making your character superman, I won't have too much issue with what you want to do. I'll be putting up the IC thread soon. I am in the process of writing it

Here is the OOC thread for characters/discussion. Feel free to add as much or as little as you please. Appearances are necessary. I tend to want to introduce info about my characters in-text as opposed to a block of crap in the OOC.

Here's my thought: It's about a week after the outbreaks started, A few miles south of Chicago. The basics of what the hell is going on has been hammered down, so the majority of people know that dead are rising, yeah yeah we've all been here before. The extent of knowledge can vary from character to character.

Basically, this isn't a thread for your character to be Mr. Badass, born leader, whatever it may be. The strong, thoughtful, leader in the middle of a crisis is a rare trait. The guy who isn't scare when his life is in danger isn't common, and if he isn't scared, he's nuts. I'm thinking we play this a real as it can be, as brutal and as thoughtful about human nature as it can be. The apocalypse isn't a happy time. Also, lots of people die. I for one think being willing to kill off your own character is a good story developer (and it doesn't mean you can't bring someone else in). Don't go thinking that's a requirement, but I for one think it's a good thing to think about.

I've got a few ideas rumbling around in my head, as of right now I'm thinking 4-6 people is a good size (can do more if people convince me it can not turn into a cluster fuck). I can start hammering out the details if anyone shows any interest. I'm thinking 3-4 characters have a "role" to fill, and the other few can be wild cards.

    1) My character, younger man, 30's. Backstory and all that can be fleshed out later.
    2) Male/Female (doesn't matter), Character 1's childhood friend. Been around each other since they were 10. Both were driving into the city when everything went to hell.
    3) Male/Female, Teenager (15ish), Neighbor to Character 2. Picked up by 1 and 2 as they fled.
    4) Male, Character 3's father. Older, in his 50's.

3 and 4 can be played with a little bit, or left out. I just thought that would be an interesting starting group with a couple wild cards if people don't want to fit that mold (don't expect to be with a group when it starts, though, or make your own).

Side note: Completely evil characters won't make sense immediately, since it's early in the outbreak. If you want to change sides, there's always the killing off option (that's why I think it's a good idea). But don't go killing off characters every 10 seconds. It doesn't make for a good story if you just spaz around.

My character. Keeping the info simple and short. I'll get more in depth as the thread goes on.

    Name: John "Jack" Ellison
    Age (range if needed): 33
    Weight: 245 lbs
    Height: 6'2"
Appearance/history: In every sense of the stereotype, Jack looks like a construction worker. A long black scruffy beard, maybe 3 inches long, with scraggly short cut black hair. Typically wearing jeans and a T-shirt, his slight beer gut hangs over his belt, a side effect from many a night spent in a bar after the crew closed up for the night. Thick and powerful from long hours doing concrete and steel work, Jack would be an imposing figure if he didn't shake like a scared child whenever his adrenaline starts going. He was never much of a fighter, unless he got drunk, when he could get nasty in a heartbeat. Most of the time he was a pretty nice guy, attempting to avoid conflict rather than create it. He was good at his job, and he was proud of what he'd done with his life despite dropping out of college. He had a few close friends, and one who had known him since they were kids. Jack had little family left, his parents dying in a car wreck when he was in college. He kept in touch with his sister, who lived in Philadelphia.
    Pre-outbreak occupation: Construction Worker
    Weapons carried: None.

    Name: Harper Claire Britton
    Age (range if needed): 32
    Weight: 141lbs
    Height: 5'5"
Appearance/History: Born into a family with three older brothers, Harper was always one of the guys. Scars riddle her body, especially her legs and elbows, from various incidents involving bicycle wrecks, sports injuries, and the frequent wrestling matches she and her brothers would have. Her height and size didn't deter her from a fight, even though she was much smaller than her siblings. She would often jest about how she was much stronger than her brothers, even though they would 'sometimes' let her win. By the time she was a teenager and had hit puberty, her parents tried to put a stop to the rough-housing by getting Harper into make-up, teen magazines, and boys - wanting to kiss them, not punch them. As she grew older and into her twenties, the rough side of her finally began to slack off and she became much more in touch with her feminine side. She would wear her dark hair down, sometimes even curling the strands and pinning them up so they would hit at her bra-line instead of her waist. Harper had also discovered the right shades of eye-shadow to compliment her blue-grey eyes and bring out the specks of green. She had matured into a beautiful young lady who preferred a conversation instead of a fist-fight. That didn't mean she was any less active, though. From kickboxing to yoga, Harper loves being at the gym and taking their night classes and even teaching them on Monday and Wednesday evenings; her toned body being the evidence of hard work.
    Pre-outbreak occupation: Kick-Boxing Instructor
Weapons carried: She always carries around Mace. If it's not in her purse, it's inside her shoe.

    Name: Aldo Warwick
    Age: 18
    Weight: 155 lbs
    Height: 5'10"
Appearance: Aldo looks very much like your stereotypical stoner. A thin white guy with a wispy beard and blond hair tied into dreadlocks, dressed in jeans and a T-shirt.
History: An only child, Also was raised by his father. It was an unhappy childhood- the man cared little for Aldo, often beating or belittling him. From an early age, all Aldo could imagine was escape. As soon as he was old enough, he began work for a local Chinese takeout place, hoping to make enough money to support himself when he moved out at age eighteen. On his eighteenth birthday, cruel irony struck- the first major signs of outbreak hit his town. Aldo was plunged into a world of desperate survival, unable to achieve his dream.
Pre-outbreak occupation: Student, Chinese food delivery driver
Weapons carried: Four-foot length of galvanized steel half-inch pipe

It might be cool if someone plays his dad. Just a thought.

Is he going to be the teenager in the car with Jack/Harper? Or is he on his own currently? Either one works for me, just curious on what kind of dynamic there will be in that back seat. Haha

Not sure, but right now I'm leaning towards "in the back seat". Gonna wait a little before posting.

Fair enough. Have a good way to explain how he came about a piece of pipe while going from Harper's house to Jack's truck (or if they got it somewhere along the way), if that's the way you go.
