Position: Engineer
Player: Jorick
Name: Lincoln Kingston
Age: 45
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Appearance: Lincoln posesses the looks of one well on his way to becoming a stereotypical mad scientist. His hair is graying and very thin on the top, always sticking out in disarray no matter what he tries to do to fix it. His face is rather wrinkled for a man of only forty-five years and his eyes seem to hold both great knowledge and a distinct lack of caring about other people, when they're not unfocused as if his mind is off on another planet. Lincoln is a rather spindly man, looking almost emaciated. He's on the tall side of average height, but he tends to slouch and make himself look shorter: a posture gained from countless hours spent hunched over a workbench.
For clothing and such, Lincoln doesn't make any great effort to look nice. His wardrobe consists of very plainly colored and cut garments, never bothering to keep up with fashion or even look very presentable most of the time. He long ago affected the style of wearing a white lab coat, though his lack of caring about presentation plus his frequent work with machines (and thus dirty parts, oil, grease, and so forth) has turned it into a grey and stained lab coat instead.
Personality: Lincoln tends to keep to himself, quiet and reserved. When he does bother to open his mouth it will be either something rather intelligent or something horribly socially awkward; experiences with reactions to the latter have led to him being even more quiet than his introverted nature would account for. More often than not he can be found in his workshop or some other secluded area tinkering with a bit of machinery or reading a weighty science text of some kind. Lincoln does not like people and will often make remarks wishing death upon them for a variety of reasons; the few people that he does tend to get along with are those who are also quiet types who keep to themselves and those with enough intellect that he feels they can at least attempt to keep up with his own, which are rather few and far between.
Strengths/Talents:
Genius. Lincoln can make some very smart people look like drooling chimps compared to his vast intellect. He is the kind of man who might come along only once or twice in a generation, one whose brain seems to operate at levels an order of magnitude greater than simple humans. He is not being vain and overconfident when he claims to be the most intelligent man alive, for he could very well be correct.
Mechanical and electrical engineering expertise and mastery. If you need something repaired or created, Lincoln can probably get it done. He is no average tinkerer, he's the kind of man who can make crafting a machine look like an artform. He will regularly go above and beyond the requests for repair or creation that are given to him, largely because he can't help but think of improvements on old designs and wish to put them to the test; it is a very, very rare occurence for these experimentations to end up malfunctioning, and even then he can probably fix the problem with ease once you bring it up to him.
Passable skill in a variety of other fields. Though Lincoln's main interest is in the fields of engineering, he dabbles in other fields on the side as well. Atop the basics of mathematics, physics, robotics, and such that he uses all the time in his engineering pursuits, Lincoln is also fairly skilled in the areas of chemistry, quantum mechanics, nanorobotics, and computer programming. These are not to the degree of his mastery of engineering and related sciences, but still enough to impress.
Well read. When not fiddling with a new machine, Lincoln can usually be found reading. While his typical reading material is of a scientific nature, he also reads other things; rarely will he bother with fiction, but he has been known to read historical, philosophical, and other less sciencey works now and again. This rarely serves any practical purpose, but he does know a little bit about a lot of things and could probably hold an intelligent conversation on any topic.
Very logical thinker. Problem solving is this guy's forte, it's what he does with his life. All of Lincoln's engineering and scientific pursuits have been drivent by logical thought and wanting to solve some issue/improve things. He's definitely the person you want thinking about how to solve any kind of problem you come across.
Weaknesses/Vices:
Introverted and socially awkward. Lincoln keeps to himself and is not very adept at social interactions, leading to potentitally awkward moments or even alienation if he screws up too badly. He won't necessarily shun contact with other people, and there are a select few he is moderately comfortable around, but he would be perfectly happy to live the rest of his life in solitude.
Unemotional. Lincoln has a hard time expressing or symphathizing with emotions, such that he comes off as something of a robot to most people.
Physically weak. Lincoln doesn't do much in the way of exercise, he's not strong or fast, he's fairly lacking in endurance. Any average human could easily take him in a fight; hell, even most Goans could give him a sound thrashing. Defintely not the guy you want to rely on in a fight.
Misanthrope. Or, well, not quite hating humanity, Lincoln harbors some hate for all living beings. He would be rather happy to see all organic life destroyed and replaced with the perfection of AI and machines, which leads too...
Omnicidal ambitions. Lincoln harbors a dream to one day wipe out all living things and replace them with machines. He believes that life is the worst thing to happen to the universe, but that sentient beings are necessary for the universe to be able to observe and interact with itself. Biological life comes with horrid things like greed and ambition and the capacity to destroy whole planets through the unreined practice of those two traits (such as happened to Earth). Lincoln dreams to craft the perfect AI, lacking in any artifact of human emotion but possessing the same (or superior) intelligence and capacity for creation and innovation; once such an AI is created, he would want to systematically destroy living things and replace them with machines controlled by this AI. It's a rather insane goal to have, but they do say genius and insanity are two sides of the same coin.

Bio:
Lincoln was born and raised on the Federation Space Station, the child of two mechanical engineers who worked on maintaining the station. From a young age it was clear that he was a brillant child, learning to read up to a third grade level before he entered school thanks to the educational toys and books his parents got for him in lieu of boring old building blocks and such. He was accelerated through school to attempt to place him at an appropriate level, but he kept on learning faster than they could teach him. By the age of ten Lincoln was already surpassing his parents' skills in the field of engineering, a prospect with both excited and chagrined them. At the age of fourteen became the youngest person in living memory to graduate the Federal University for Higher Knowledge with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. By the age of twenty he had also acquired a bevy of additional degrees in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics before he tired of the academic world and devoted himself to a more solitary pursuit of knowledge.
Due to his many innovations and improvements to various machines and systems in place on the Federation Space Station over the next handful of years, Lincoln was in a way taken in by the government. He was not hired in an official capacity (because he refused), but they paid him a weekly stipend for continuing to work on things as he saw fit and as they requested. He became rather renowned in intellectual circles for his work, such as the creation of a new water recycling filter system that took a quarter of the time to work compared to the previous model, enhancements to vehicles, and tons of upgrades to weaponry courtesy of the more militaristically minded folks coming to call at his workshop.
Lincoln Kingston is also known as one of the poorest rich men ever, due to the fact that his variety of inventions to make daily chores easier (sold under the name of the Kingston Corporation, run by some savvy businessmen who saw profit in the genius's work) garner him hefty profits but all of that money ends up being sunk into new research and experimentation rather than going toward any material wealth. Kingston is something of a household name around the Confederacy due to this company, but most people aren't aware that he does more important work than make automated clothes folding dressers and robotic servants that respond to over a hundred voice commands, as the advertisements make much ado about.
There is not much more public knowledge about Lincoln. Most only know him for the commercialized side of his inventions, some know he is a brilliant inventor and engineer. None are quite sure what the man's personality is like, other than that he keeps to himself and has no patience for fools. He has no living family, his only known associates are business contacts and a Marzai assistant. A detail of this man's life, such as one might see in a personnel file, would contain a long list of achievements and creations whilst having almost nothing in the personal life section.
NPC:
Chut, a Marzai, has worked as Lincoln's assistant for the past few years. He is large, thick, and green skinned as most of his race is, posessing the typical dark eyes of his people. Chut has no obvious distinguishing marks, but he was given an appropriately sized white lab coat upon being hired to work as Lincoln's assistant. Where the human cares not for his clothing, Chut keeps his pristine and white as best as he is able; this is a rather abnormal piece of clothing for a Marzai, so most people can tell who he is from a long distance away.
Chut does not talk much, a trait which his employer found rather agreeable. It is not that he doesn't like talking or is particularly introverted, but rather that he is rather deliberate and chooses not to speak unless he has something worthwhile to say. Those who have engaged him in conversation have found Chut to posess a fine intellect and a strong philosophical bent, often ending up discussing topics of morality and the like despite starting out talking about something very simple.
His past isn't extremely exciting: he worked for a mining operation on Marzan as their lead demolitions man before circumstances led him to leave and move to the Federation Space Station. There he found little work for a Marzai with knowledge of explosives and enough of geology to get by using them to blast out a mine. He did, however, find a quite possibly insane little old human who needed someone strong to do heavy lifting around his workshop. Chut hasn't been exactly thrilled to be doing manual labor, but he has the benefit of being paid ludicrously well for the simple work and having access to many avenues for education and perhaps future employment through Lincoln's library and his various business connections. Despite Chut's desire to feel more useful in his work, he hasn't left for greener pastures because he's grown attached and somewhat protective of the little man. He does hope this expedition will provide him with a chance to prove his worth as more than a set of strong arms, but he's content remaining in the shadows if that is his lot in life.
