    The Wild Blue (Accepted Characters)

    'Ol Jackson, Lord Aldric Nightsong
An Imperial Noble, ousted by his younger brother, turns to a life of crime.
    Sex: Male
    Age: 57
    Physical Description

    Brief History
'Ol Jackson was born Aldric Nightsong, first son of Samuel Nightsong, and heir to the Nightsong Noble House. A Stormblood born to a house not notable for their Essence gift, he was a surprise to his father. Eager to groom his son into a powerful Noble, he took Aldric from his comfortable life at an early age. The Bannister Military Academy was not known for it's hospitable environment, but more Navy Admirals had graduated from it than any other school. Life in the Academy was hard on Aldric, and despite hopes that his Stormblood would let him excel, he only passed the Academy with marginal scores at best. Without quick advancement through the military ranks Samuel Nightsong grew disinterested in Aldric and focused his attention on August, Aldric's younger brother. August was gifted with leadership qualities allowed him to rise much higher than Aldric at the Military Academy, and by the time he was graduated he was already being sent invitations from multiple Officers in the Navy. Aldric was fine with this, and while August did tours of duty in the Imperial Expanse, Aldric settled down. He married a wife of good standing, and was chosen by the Empress to Governor of a small Worldshard close to Ilysium. He was in his mid-twenties when his father passed away due to mysterious circumstances. Still heir to the Nightsong Family, he returned to Nightsong Lodge and began to manage his family's estate. Everything was going well when his brother returned from duty.

Immediately tension began to grow between August and Aldric over how the family should be run. The older, calmer brother was taken aback at how vicious and cruel August had become after his time in the Navy. The two would stay up late in the night arguing, until one day Aldric finally had enough and dismissed August from Nightingale Lodge, the ancestral Worldshard of the Nightsong Family. It wouldn't even be a week before Aldric woke up in his Father's office to hear the sound of screaming. Looking out the window, he saw an Imperial Destroyer floating over Nightingale Lodge. A large crash came from behind him, luckily his wits were about him enough to send a bolt of lightning in the direction. It dropped two of the assassins sent to kill Aldric. More were around the Lodge, killing servants and spreading havoc all throughout the estate. Dressed as Crimson Sky Rebels, August hoped to claim the deaths were an attack by outsiders, and that he arrived just in time to stop them. Not before his poor brother Aldric was murdered of course.

Aldric escaped to safety, and attempted to use his contacts in the Government to expose his brother. Unfortunately those contacts never answered his calls, or they never went public and lived. He tried to get into contact with his wife, only to find that she was in on the conspiracy and was now sleeping with his brother. Aldric was forced to hide in Olympia for a few day while plotting his revenge against August. Those days turned into weeks, and assassins came for him again, this time killing one of his most precious friends in the crossfire. Those weeks turned into months and he found himself in the Imperial Expanse, a group of Rebels recognized his nobility when he helped a farmer jump start his engine with an electric bolt and a lynch mob formed. Months turned into years and he was on Haven looking for work, when an Outlaw with an eye for talent spotted him charging batteries for coins.

Years turned into decades, and 'Ol Jackson has been flying the Wild Blue for sometime now. His hatred has cooled to an eerie simmer that only burns at the mention of his family, his brother, or his true identity. While many on his ship know he must have some Noble Blood in him, only the few he trusts completely know he is Aldric Nightsong, heir to the most powerful Noble House in the Empire.

    Motivation: Kill his brother.

    Personality
Jackson has a calm soul by nature, and he very rarely lets things anger him. He isn't fond of violence, and likes to let his words win his battles. He is more pragmatic than many would assume from first encounters though. While he seems like a man who would rather spend his days in repose, he is actually more than willing to get his hands dirty. He values loyalty more than anything, and is secretly afraid of betrayal. In conversations he likes to point out things unrelated to what is being discussed. He enjoys the company of younger woman, and is a bit of womanizer. He likes Imperial Music (akin to Classical Music) more than Free World music (more akin to Modern Music). He hates people who alter deals.

Notes: I'm still building this character's history. Sort of want to take a Hamlet approach to his background. The main difference is that rather than taking the Vengence trait, I'm going to play his hatred of his Brother as cold, logical, and calculated thing. It has been over 20 years since he had been forced to leave his home, so he isn't as emotional about it as he was when it was still fresh. He doesn't even want to be an Imperial Noble anymore (although technically he would still be considered one since his Brother can't legally denounce him), he is content with his current life as a Smuggler. He simply wants retribution for what was taken from him, not to get it back. As a Blooded Noble he has a longer natural lifespan that a normal person, and will live for another hundred years. Because of that he doesn't really see any big rush to change his course in life.

    Iris Tyrell
    'Tis new to thee.
    Sex: Female
Age: Seems to be in her late twenties or early thirties
    Physical Description

Above average height, Iris has a lean physique, not unlike a professional dancer. While she carries an obvious strength, her body is more flowing, elegant motion than cords and knots of power. She has fair skin without the flawlessness of youth nor the deep creases of years, lending her features a kind of ageless look; she could be anywhere from her mid-twenties to a well-preserved late thirties. Her wide, clear eyes are the greys and blues of dawn, with just the beginning of smile lines at the corners. The rest of her features are pleasant and pretty, and while she has a more girl-next-door look than a coquettishly wicked one, nothing about her speaks of naiveté or doe-eyed innocence. Her hair is straight and dark and hangs a little lower than her shoulder blades, usually pulled back in a messy tail with strands falling around her face. She has a collection of piercings in each ear, irregularly rotating between studs, bright metal ornaments, gemstones, or thin, fine chains. She wears a thin metal ring with a small, many-faceted blue stone and has no normally-visible tattoos or scars. Her hands are strong, with long, quick fingers and smooth callouses.

Her clothes are practical and functional, though cut in a way that displays the figure underneath. She prefers trousers, a button-down shirt and her nearly floor-length duster-style coat. She wears heavy, steel-capped boots and usually carries a leather bag across her body, large enough to carry a book, supplies, or anything else but not so large as to be remarkable.

    Brief History

Iris, from the outside, is something of an enigma. She has spent much of her life moving from place to place in the Blue, never really settling down for any real period of time. In that time, however, she has tended to make more friends than enemies, travel extensively, and make something of a name for herself by buying passage on ships with her skills as an inveterate tinkerer and breathtaking mechanic. If any of the captains she's served with got together, they may notice that no two of them have gotten the same story as to where she came from. Maybe they wouldn't find it that unusual; there are a lot of people who don't care to talk about who they really are. They would agree that it seems unlikely she has any family, though.

For the last couple of years, Iris has served as the chief (and only) engineer of a skyship called the Owl, and, for the first time she can remember, it feels like home. She's even allowed herself to own more things than she can comfortably fit in a backpack.

Motivation: Life. Not survival, not existing day to day, but life, with all its joys and horrors and terrible, glorious freedoms.

Personality: Usually pleasant, even cheerful but often with a kind of intangible, difficult to define distance. Practical, capable, and hard-working, and endlessly, incessantly curious. When she thinks nobody is looking, occasionally prone to what seems to be a reflective melancholy. Not a black, destructive depression, though.

Worth noting is that Iris speaks with an accent that shares almost nothing with any of the people of the Worldshards. Wherever it comes from, it's probably also the source of the liquid, rolling curse words she uses when something goes wrong.

    Traits and Tags:

Construct: Strong, Unnatural, Lonely, Power Source

Engineer: Mechanic, Repair, Invention, Black Powder, Salvage, Ships, Devices, Improvise

Explorer: Curious, Ancient Lore, History, Languages, Myths, Decipher

Inventor: Steam, Novel, (Apparently) Crackpot, Gears

    Equipment:

A pen that never seems to run out of ink, doubles as an impossibly fine engraving stylus. It somehow seems alien, and the dull metal it's made from doesn't seem like anything you normally see in the Blue.

A side-by-side shotgun, well-made with an oiled walnut stock and forearm.

Her ring, which does not appear to be otherwise remarkable. It is not made of the same material as her pen.

A six-string acoustic guitar. The maker's mark is from a luthier in Ilysium. The case is battered but the instrument itself is well taken care of.

Leather bag with a collection of necessities, including a set of sturdy, lightweight tools and enough money to buy passage away from any of the worlds around Stella.

Notes: You're going to find out a lot more about Iris through the course of the game. Don't worry, I'm not lazy, I just don't want to spoil the mystery!

Concept: A fish out of water/stranger in a strange land. This will get less vague as the story goes along.

    Tailla [TYE-yuh] Rimborn
An insufferably cheerful girl working to rebuild her broken family.
    Sex: Female
    Age: 19
    Physical Description

Anyone who didn't know Tai would never guess she was a world-class pilot. Outside of a pair of olive green eyes and a scar running diagonally across the bridge of her nose, her features are otherwise entirely unremarkable, and perhaps a little too bulky for Tai's taste, but then she's never really cared much about personal appearance as it were. She has a shoulder-length mass of tightly curled mahogany hair, rarely seen outside of a bright yellow scarf. If given a choice between wearing her father's well worn, oversized overalls, or just about anything else you could think of, Tai would choose the jumpsuit.

    Brief History
Tailla's family was torn apart when her younger brother, a noble bastard, was taken away after being ousted as a Blooded. Her mother went mad with grief, her father died trying to obtain magical abilities by flying near Stella. The failed ventured bankrupted what was left of the family and (probably) killed the father. Her twin brother became hostile and bitter and ran away, and Tailla moved her dying mother to a safe house to become a pilot and attempt to rebuild her family.

    Motivation
She's going to find and reunite her family.

    Personality
Tai's personality could polarize a field of grass. One side of the field would find her bubbly, loyal, and the first to give up the shirt off her back at the slightest indication of need. She is friendly to everyone she meets, and makes it her goal in life to make people around her happy. Strangely, she can come across as distant to those who are extremely perceptive, though she does have a genuine desire to help people, and it is this desire that drives the vast majority of her actions.

The other side of the field would simply call her intrusive, overprotective, and shallow.

And in that field, a single blade of grass would recognize the degree of emotional trauma Tai once suffered, which does not play a part in her waking persona, but has been known to show up in rare bouts of manic (dangerous) behavior.

    Traits and Tags
    Faithful
Determined, Honest, Iron Will, Loyal, Patient, Spirited, Stubborn, Uplifting

    Kind
Smile, Sense of Humor, Listen, Calm, Negotiate, Haggle, Friendly, Caring

    Pilot
Daring, Evasion, Tricky Flying, Navigation, Maps, Atmospherics, Battle, Stunts

    Reclusive
    Emotional Wounds, Hide, Misunderstood

    Equipment
A collection of maps and star charts of such emotional value, they operate more as a a scrapbook than an actual navigation device.
Her father's work overalls, the last article of clothing he wore before the day he died.
Her flight certificate, verifying her as the youngest ever graduate of Steamsmith's Flight School.
A photograph of her entire family on Aidan's third birthday. She keeps it in the breast pocket of her overalls at all times.
    A compass with mysterious value.
A small dagger which, to date, she has never used for anything more than etching her name into things.
A pair of mechanical dragons made of spare parts and gears she's collected over the years. She calls them Wash and Zoe. For no reason in particular, at least as far as IC goes.

    Notes
As explained in the Concept section, Tai is based primarily on two separate fictional female characters. Most of you have probably heard of Kaylie from Firefly, from whom, quite simply, I took the personality and dedication to the ship. Her central drive, though, her sense of moral responsibility and her life's motivation, however, are based on the character Ree Dolly from the 2010 film Winter's Bone. Ree is a young girl who cares for her younger sibling and unstable mother, and goes hunting for her father when he ends up missing. She is fiercely independent, and very proud. She takes the responsibility of her entire family on her young shoulders, and often suffers, both physically and emotionally for it. There is a pain she is forced to hide in order to care for her family. It's such a selfless strength, and I love it. So. Yeah. I want that for Tai.

    Concept
Kaylie (Firefly/Serenity), Ree Dolly (Winter's Bone), Wash (Firefly/Serenity)
