Jun returned to his normal tone of voice, balling up a fist and feeling his arm muscles tighten up. He watched his own reflection pass by a window momentarily, his silhouette mocking him. His sleek jet black hair, combed to one side as if he were some famous actor, nestled above wandering turquoise eyes. I want to be like Jun when I grow up, Mom!
Yeah, so much for that.
"They tell me that if I can't pay for his hospital bills, they'll take him off of his life support. And I'm not making that much to begin with, they're practically threatening me."

Opposites attract. What a funny idea... *It isn't that I don't think that it could work; it's just that surely it is easier to get along with people if you have similar interests. "Sure, opposites attract sounds about right."

Oh, well that isn't something I was prepared for. He seems, to me at least, to be tense and sad and angry, all at the same time and I simply don't know what to do. I consider reassuring him, but I doubt I would be able to think of anything he hadn't already been told. Comforting him comes to mind, but that could be taken as patronizing or, really, anything. So I jut stand there, mouth slightly and wringing my hands behind my back before muttering the only thing I can think of, something very bland and unhelpful "I'm so sorry."

"It's all good, though." Jun assured, trying to lighten up the mood and loosened his fist. "Daniel's a good kid, he'll pull through. I'll make sure of it."

I have my doubts about what Jun just said, sometimes things aren't quite as simple as living and dying. Nevertheless I decide to hide that and further our conversation by saying "That's good. If he's anything like you I'm sure he'll grow up to be brilliant."
