Dangerous Investigations and Strange Changes – SF/horror - OOC

Inside the facility:
__ The sphere - hanging in mid-air just as it shouldn't - has a soft glow to it. The walkways assembled around it are too numerous and to conforming to its shape for them to not have been designed for exactly this. There are signs mounted around it:

Emergency packs are located around the sphere.

__ On the ground level a forklift backs into a makeshift wooden cabinet crushing it. As the pieces fall away you can see the remains of a person – you think. But the longer you look the less certain you are since the remains seem fused into an electronics console. The workers quickly move a screen to block the view then bring over another wooden cabinet. Then you can hear power ratchets and the broken cabinet is removed and the new one put in place.

__ Your characters were chosen to investigate an unusual incident just outside of a small city in northern Illinois. The company that owns the facility has a government contract for developing new military technology. Reports came in to the police of an explosion or lightning strikes – from a clear sky. The police were turned away at the gate being told that everything was being taken care of. However they were able to observe irregular holes in the large main building.

__ You can be a representative from the military conducting an official investigation or an intelligence operative sneaking in to find out for your organization (USA or other country) what happened. Other possibilities exist but will be more limited.
__ This will be your characters' introduction into the deeper secrets of the game world. Secrets of governments, corporations, covert intelligence agencies, bioweapons, wormholes, and whether there is any truth to stories about psychic powers, vampires or aliens.

__ You might recognize material from other sources because I have borrowed heavily from one source and moderately from another. Please don't assume anything based on that other material - I have made changes.
__ I'm thinking this might be best as High Casual – if I correctly understand the category. Although once we get going, 1 paragraph each day is better than 3 paragraphs once a week.

I'm starting this off using the (real) small town of Oregon, Illinios.

There is a single police station. There is also a Ogle county sheriff station.

__ Between Oregon Park West and County Highway 6 (aka Pines Road) is a large field IRL (WSW of town - if you use a satellite view from a map service) which in game was purchased a few years ago by Guardian Defense Systems - a major defense contractor. They built a large facility with plenty of space for expansion around it. About 500 feet in from the road is a berm with evergreen trees planted on it. This provides visual blockage of the facility for most of the perimeter. Fifty feet further in is a 12 foot high chain-link fence. A gap of 25 feet then another 12 foot high chain-link fence. Each fence has razor wire on top.
__ The main access is from County Highway 6 and the parking lot takes up the area inside to the right (east) and to the left (west) is a 3 story office building. North-northeast of the parking lot is one warehouse-sized steel building. Behind the office building is an extremely large building - roughly 8 stories tall and about 475 feet on a side. It is this building which suffered the "storm" damage. Green dotted outermost line is the evergreen trees and the square they make is 1000 feet to a side.
GDS - The most advanced thing anyone knows of them developing is gauss weaponry - difficult until they solve the power problem. Otherwise they seem to only be working on conventional weapons and vehicles - ground and air. There is some specualtion that they might have a few innovations for their aircraft but nothing confirmed.

Age:38.
Gender:Male. Occupation:Investor, Head of Monterey Industries. Personality:Very Smooth and not affected by the environment around him, he always tries to solve a problem when apparent. He is however suspicious and always pays attention to his surroundings.
Bio:
Born to a wealthy family with European ties to the House of Hohenzollern. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard. (He majored in Finance). He traveled across the world learning multiple languages and trying to bring in more contracts to his father's company. During his travels he came into contact with a CIA handler codenamed "Uncle Sam". The handler recruited max for the CIA seeing how he was from a well known and connected family and the potential he had. (His persona and mastery of many languages would prove him to be a very valuable asset) Undergoing training for the CIA, he scored very high in his marksmanship training and also the physical. He went through the psychological training (One that was designed to not make him break and betray his handlers) and passed just fine. By the age of 28 Max became a covert CIA operative with the goal of discovering any type of Espionage activities within the united states. Assuming his father's office after his father stepping down to retire, Max lead the company into a new golden era with Billions of dollars in defense contracts signed with countries all around the world and the US.

Gender: Male Occupation: Consultant Detective (Yes, like Sherlock Holmes) Personality: Witty and a little bit of a smart ass at times but not rude and more of a gentleman. Bio: Roger has once been part of the British Special forces some years ago. With this training he decided to leave this for another line of work, solving crimes and mysteries. It here he meet Smith, who has from a task force in the British army. Together they solve crimes for anyone who is in need.
Roger has come to this investigation alone. He was show a rather high interest in this story and wishes know more, however his interest is not shared by Smith who thinks that the Americans should deal with their own problems. Skills: Fencing, some sword play, some martial arts, forensics, forensic pathology, & decent at MacGyvering things. Knowledges: Some chemistry, Criminology, all around science.
Appearance: About 5' 10", wears a fine pinstripe suit, Light brown hair and eyes, on the skinny side, carries a cane around.

Country: England Weapons and Armor: Cane, small pocket gun (half the time), no armor. Other gear / equipment: Pocket watch, handkerchief. Other than that he MacGyvers things as needed.
__ On Wednesday January 2nd, 2013 at 10:04 am the townspeople on the southwest part of Oregon, Illinois began calling the police and sheriff's offices reporting a single loud boom but numerous short-lived ropes/tongues/curls/streaks of lightning from the location of Guardian Defense Systems. The officers and deputies dispatched for the initial investigation were stopped at the closed gate and not allowed entry. They were informed that there was no danger. GDS had expected the results that occurred but simply underestimated the extent somewhat.
While the GDS people were correct in that the facility lay outside of the actual town limits, the sheriff did have authority to examine things to verify everything was safe. Which he did after his deputies returned and told him they were turned away. GDS kept him waiting at the gate for his "escort". They took him on his tour of the facility.

Text from the sheriff's report:
__ Don't know what they were doing there. Had an empty building where something had happened. This is the huge building where no one from town works. Big glowing white sphere in the middle balanced on not much. Odd curvy tunnels at all angles going into the ground and through some of the walls. Sheets covered some equipment and cabinets.
__ They got something strange going on there but nothing illegal I can see. No fires or damaged equipment – except maybe under the sheets. They claimed the sheets were to keep me from seeing what they called proprietary equipment. (Spell checker tells me it's a word.) But they brought in a lot of stuff as they built that huge building but the center is really empty except for that glowing sphere. Very odd.

__ A day later the sheriff contacts a cousin who works in the state capital and talks with him a while. His cousin says he'll try to find out what's going on.

Not too powerful. I am curious as to why he would continue to work for the CIA after taking control of the business?
And who does he trust to run it when he is "busy"? A single individual or a group? Even if he keeps his little side trips secret (which would be wise), that means someone needs to cover for him within the company.
What aspects of defense does the company cover?
Is your character (once he finds out who he's investigating) planning on some personal extra effort within GDS - since they are a competitor?
Well there is a board of directors and a managerial hierarchy, the company would be fine if he left since they secured allot of defense contracts over the years to keep them occupied for a decade.
My character can buy the whole town if he wanted . But no he is just investigating for the CIA.
Here's a character for this. If ya don't like it then say so and I will try again. I will to be somewhat different in some way. Also, this character is still kinda being worked on along with his counter part character so sorry if his CS seems a little patchy.

I would like to apologize in advance for my CS and writing. First off, I'm not just getting back to Group RPing from not being on for about 6 months. Second, I usually don't do Causal but I like the story and idea and I'm feeling a little brave. So please forgive me if I don't seem to be the best or on top of my game. If it's too much then I can take a hint.
Also the Skills and Knowledges got a little interesting for me while writing them. You might want to have a look at them.

The soonest either of you can get there is Friday - two days after the incident. For Max the op needs to be approved then assigned so Max could be in Oregon, IL by 1 pm Friday. For Roger, the news needs to gather enough of the story for it to spread to newspapers in England so Roger's connecting flight would get to O'Hare about 7 pm local time. Renting a car and driving out there gets Roger to Oregon, IL about 9 pm. What would be each of your rough idea of how to proceed so I can set the stage in the IC?
