Zeke Crawford still wasn't sure how to feel. It all still felt surreal. He could still hear his own name being called, the silence that followed, the shock. No one stepped up, which was unusual, but he had been chosen to go into the Hunger Games. Growing up in District 2, it would be an honor to go into the Games. It would be an honor to be chosen to try and win and become a victor. Growing up, he was taught this since day one. He was taught that killing was okay, he was taught that he had to win and would do anything to win. But, as all these things were forced into him, they never fully sunk in. He would watch old Games, new Games, and couldn't believe what he was seeing. The blood shed, the easy way the Careers would just kill, it sickened him. He never told anyone because everyone else thought it was okay but him, he was different. He had a heart. He didn't like seeing people die. And so when he chosen to go into the Hunger Games to represent District 2, he felt sick. But he had to act like he was happy about it, excited even. The train ride to the Capitol was short, considering he wasn't far from it, and the girl who had been chosen was excited. She was actually excited, he was faking it. They didn't talk much and when they got to the Capitol and got to their rooms, he just wanted to be alone.
He still didn't know what to do. How to feel. He didn't want to kill anyone but he also didn't want to be killed. His mentor was busy with his District partner, she was talking his ear off, asking so many questions, and so, he slipped away. He couldn't be around them anymore, he just needed to think, wrap his head around the fact soon, he'll have to kill or be killed. He knew he didn't need to be gone for long but he just couldn't be around them anymore. He didn't want to talk about what's the best way to go into the Cornucopia and get the best weapons, the best way to kill someone trying to take what they want. He sighed as he wondered the hallway outside the District 2 room before he spotted a door. He walked over to it and pushed it open. There were stairs. Shrugging, he began to climb them. If it wasn't lock, he was going to explore. He noticed other doors as he went up and finally, he reached the top of the stairs. He pushed the door open and a breeze met him. It was the roof. He slowly walked onto the roof, looking around. This seemed like a good place for thinking, for just being alone. He walked over to the edge and looked over, staring down at all the moving people. He never realized how much he hated those people till now. Because of them, he would have to do things he'd never thought he could.
