"Hey Rixy what are you doing?" Ronald yelled from below. Rixy, the young blond haired man he was addressing, sat on top of a wind turbine. It was one of the DNA models. That was a nickname Rix and the others had given it back in middle school.
"Just enjoying the view my man. I'll be down in a sec." Rix pulled a square plate off his back and it unfolded into the shape of a board with two spheres at either end. They spun on themselves creating a green aura around them. The board hovered above the surface of the windmill even when Rix stepped on it. Then with a leap of faith he went following the metal turbine down to the ground. "OH YEAH! I never get tired of that I tell ya man that is better than any of those roller coasters on Cortex."
His larger friend laughed, "I bet man. You'll never get me to do it though. I've never had luck with hover boards."
Rix patted his friend on the back as he kicked up the board where it collapsed mid air and fell into his hand. "I gotcha man. So what brings you out here?"
"Oh just thought I'd check on you. See what you were up to you know."
"Yeah, everything's good man, just been looking over at the red district." Rix said as they walked through the grass between two large cliffs at either end of the gorge. Wind turbines lined the canyon and elevators were scattered across the cliff side so that convoys could replace energy cores at the mills as they traveled between the red and blue districts.
Ronald's face took a gloomer look, "What's it like over there? Can you see the mines? What about my dad?"
Rix glanced at his friend, "I can barely make out the mines, sorry couldn't tell if your dad was in or out. I'm sure he's fine Ronald. He'll be home before you know it."
"Yeah." Ronald said dissapointed then his face grew brighter, "Yeah I'm sure you're right. He's probably on the next ride back."
"Yeah man. The next ride back." Rix looked up into the bright sun. Just like you dad.
------
Hours later Rix sat at the table with his friend and his family minus the father. "So who's up for seconds?" An older man said with long gray hair at the back of the bald dome of his head. He looked like a dirty Benjamin Franklin.
A woman younger than that of the man but fairly older than the two boys walked over with an green apron over a white dress and a pot in her hand. "Calm down boys I'm bringing seconds." She smiled as she poured gournoff into their bowls.
"Oh boy." Ronald said smiling as the chili like meal was poured into his bowl. "Thank you Misses Beakerson. Your cooking is the best on Dextria." Rix said as she made it over to him.
She smiled and added a few scoops to his bowl. "Oh your a charmer Rixy. I remember making this for you boys since you were in grade school."
"Those were the days." The older man said. "Back when your fathers were both here to share a meal."
