The Tomb of Dracula: Drake's Return OOC

This is the OOC thread for an upcoming roleplay based in the universe of the Tomb of Dracula involving Drake being the main antagonist again. We play vampire hunters, like how the comic focuses on vampire hunters, who get caught up in an event that will threaten the entire human race. I don't normally impose rules, but there are some rules you need to know.

1. Human characters will not be capable of fighting a vampire without tools. I don't want to see humans beating vampires to a pulp with their bare hands like in Blade: Trinity.
2. There is a limit of three half-vampires excluding my own.
3. I will allow half-demons, though there will be a limit of two.
4. If you give a good reason for it, I'll allow a full vampire character to be one of the hunters. Only one, though, since vampires generally see humans as livestock.
5. You can have as many characters as you can handle, though I'd appreciate it if each player had only one hunter.
6. I'm not requiring a detailed CS. I'd rather the character be developed IC, and have us learn more about your character through his IC actions.

The Vist Foundation was founded by Marcus Vist in the early 21st century. The company came on the scene as a private military organization during the wars in the late 21st century. Over the next three centuries, Vist became a major supplier of arms and equipment for military units all over the world. The Vist foundation primarily specializes in infantry weapons and vehicles for government across the world. The company has large assets and is generally regarded as a necessary evil in the world. The primary stakeholder in the company is a man by the name of Anthony Vist.

Game effects: You can use the Vist Foundation to give the players weapons, jobs, intel and resources. They are very similar to how Stark Industries, OSCORP, Lex Corp or Wayne Enterprises operate within their respective universes. It also gives you the chance to bring in characters as needed without having to flesh them out completely.

Likewise, you can hand out missions from Vist and reward the players with goodies should they complete them. This also gives human characters who don’t want to be hunters non-combat jobs. However Vampire Hunters don’t have to start as members of Vist. They can be in smaller operations of their own. They can even join the foundation later through the story if they so desire.

-The Nightwalker Exo-suit is a full body jumpsuit which enhances the wearer’s strength, speed and endurance. It was original designed to help paraplegics walk and regain mobility. However the Nightwalker suit has been modified somewhat to suit Vampire Hunter needs. It is a full body suit which can be worn under normal clothes, making it ideal for being inconspicuous. The suit is powered by a micro-arc reactor which provides the suit with its power. The suit also comes complete with an optional helmet and HUD interface. The HUD has communication and navigation software as well as night and thermal vision. However, this won't be available to most characters until they earn it.
*The Nightwalker is a basic design and can likely be upgraded with other special goodies as the relevant tech becomes available.

This will basically serve as the base of operations for our group of Hunters. We will come here to receive missions and restock our supplies, as well as receive new tech to make hunting vampires easier for our characters. Much of the technology Vist makes was based on the unique weaponry that Eric, aka Blade, used when he was hunting vampires. Speaking of Blade, he's long since died from old age. His humanity caught up with him about ten years before this roleplay is set, which would be somewhere around the year of 2278.

Would half vampires also need to have the serum used by blade? Also what is the tech level for human characters?

Right, forgot we're in the future. Well, I'd say we're in the 24th century, so we'll have some experimental energy weapons. It would be interesting to see a UV assault rifle, to be honest. Maybe one that fires an ultraviolet laser instead of the usual infrared laser.

And whether to use the serum is your choice, but humans may not like it when you feed on them. Like with Blade, human blood will make a half-vampire much more powerful than the serum, but, well, you have to feed on a human to get it. It really depends on the morals of your character.

OOOOH So I could play a human with a powered exo-skeleton to help me beat down vamps? That could be interesting, I do enjoy playing the tech characters. I was thinking about being Tony Stark/Batman esqe type character which would secretly supply Vampire hunters with weapons and such. Now that would be interesting.

That sounds like a really cool idea, actually. That could end up an exception to the rules about humans not fighting vamps with their bare hands, since the suit could make him strong enough and tough enough to do so.

I'm into this idea but unsure of if the character I am thinking of would fit. What is the stance on magic in this RP? I was thinking an almost Lovecraft style professor of the arcane who has studied vampires in depth and has ancient texts related to the vampires in his possession.

I can accept a character who studies the arcane, but one that actually uses it is a bit iffy. I'm guessing that's what you meant, though. I'm willing to take the arcane as a theoretical thing, but not really as an actual roleplay mechanic.

Aight. I was thinking about it eventually being used very occasionally. I guess the character would work as a historian type character maybe, not that historians have any place fighting vampires. I thought that might work though seeing as magic junk is a part of the Blade universe.

Yeah, eventually you could start using magic, but not starting out, but it would be pretty stressful on your character. He could end up being kind of like Whistler. A support role. Maybe an employee of Vist. Your guy could be who gets Vist all the more recent data on vampires.
