This hider contains things that everyone either knows or at least thinks. The world has recently gone to fucking hell. During a three year winter, tensions mounted as food shortages ran rampant, people starved in the streets, and crime and war spread like wild fire. Swabs of English countryside are irradiated after being nuked in the Arctic War ( a war between various forces of Northern Europe, including the various Scandinavian nations, Germany, France, England, and Ireland, although primarily fought in the waters of the Arctic ). Actually, pretty much all of the channel and surrounding landmass is a real life hell. Ireland is currently under some new IRA control in what's being called The Problems, as the weakened English forces try to regain control of their lost lands, while the other states of the United Kingdom rise up as well.
Israel has nuked much of the surrounding area as well, making the Holy Land scarred with nuclear fire and dead bodies. India completely destroyed Pakistan for all its worth, sending all that's left back to the stone age. China has successfully invaded and conquered Hawaii and Alaska, and has begun moving in on what is now known as Pacifica. Pacifica split from the United States of America during the Second Civil War, and contains California and other Pacific bordering states in a new semi-socialist haven. Meteors had also crashed into and destroyed various American cities during the war, leveling Chicago and Las Vegas, and further tearing wide holes in states like Tennessee.
The Korean War has inflamed, engulfing parts of Asia, as a nominal Chinese force backs North Korea while expanding into North America, and North Korea battles South Korea and Japan. Southeast Asia has become a clusterfuck of bickering Warlords as the many nations fell into disarray and chaos. Russia has become a new USSR and has begun expanding, also battling the USA, forcing them to fight multiple wars on multiple fronts, as even Mexico has invaded the former American southwest to take back land. The New Republic of Texas has become heir to the southwest after splitting from the USA and the New Confederacy, and are in a locked battled with the Mexicans of the south over lands, people, and food.
Canada has split from the UK, and further Quebec has split from Canada, in what's now called the Northern Revolution, as Canada attacks occupying English forces, and tries to reclaim valuable lands from the new Quebec Republic. Large chunks of space rock has also dotted the battlegrounds here as well, crashing all along an arc from Chicago up to the Hudson Bay, the cratered landscape becoming the border between the two battling nations. South, a DMZ of trenches and shelled cities spans the Mason Dixon line between the crippled USA and the new CSA.
And much, much more.
After the Three Year Winter, the wars have mostly died down, although the recovering world is still distrustful of its new neighbors once friends. An unofficial North American UN has been founded within New Vegas, stationed somewhere in New Mexico within the New Republic of Texas, and is host to various peace talks among the parties that once made up the United States of America, as well as Mexico, Russia, and China.
The world is a pretty bleak place right now, with the population cut down from war, starvation, meteors, and plagues, with many people believing that the end times are upon us all. Despite the fears, the world is trying to slowly piece itself back together, as best it can.
UPDATES : It's common knowledge that after the Three Year Winter, all coal burns clean, pollution free. Further, despite conditions for it being pretty optimal in some places, wildfires are almost unheard of. Also, in the USA, it's not just Pacifica, New Texas Republic, Confederate States, and United States, there's also a rather small, but growingly powerful Mormon Theocracy.
