World War Z: Zero Hour OOC

    WORLD WAR Z: ZERO HOUR

The Battle of Yonkers; Yonkers, NY, ~2 mi (3 km) north from the "Manhattan Hotzone"

Synopsis & Setting: If you’re unaware of the book, let me give you a brief synopsis. An agent of the United Nations Postwar Commission (UNPC) is given the task of writing and publishing a report a decade after the Zombie War (Editors Note: When the war begins and ends is up for our debate). The United Nations left out much of his work from the official report, choosing to focus on facts and figures from the war rather than the individual stories that form the bulk of Brooks' novel. The interviews chart a decade-long war against zombies from the viewpoint of many different people of various nationalities. The personal accounts also describe the changing religious, geo-political, and environmental aftermath of the Zombie War.

The entire world is engulfed in a state of emergency. The dead are walking the streets of cities and roving along the plains of nations. People have either chosen to make a stand and fight for their very lives or they try to cut and run and risk death in an attempt to escape. Everywhere, there are Undead present; husbands eating the flesh of their wives, sisters feasting upon the remains of their brothers, even hoards of children devouring the entrails of their fallen parents. The military are (for a moment) caught off-guard and were overwhelmed with numerous complications, some as bad (if not, worse) than the issues of the Undead. This is the horror the entire planet bear witness to. And it is the horror that everyday people experienced and to be experienced by you.

General Information: This is, as you can guess, a RPG of humanity’s most violent conflict with an equally violent enemy. For anyone who has not read the book, let me provide some additional insight.

    • The Zombie War (Referred to in multiple ways, such as The Dark Ages, The Plague War, World War Z, etc.) started almost like any self-respecting zombie fan would expect; a series of small, almost imperceptible, cases of “African Rabies” (aptly named after the first “major” outbreak’s origin) slowly, but surely, grows to a global scale.
    • The “Great Panic” is a term to describe the initial mass hysteria citizens had encountered in the first years of the war.
    • One individual (that scum-sucking, son-of-a-bitch, Breckinridge “Breck” Scott) thought he could cash in on the craze of avoiding infection by coming up with a fake prescription medication dubbed “Phalanx”. When it was revealed that Phalanx was ineffective as a medication, the Great Panic really took flight.
    • One battle in Yonkers, NY was one of the most catastrophic military failures in the war, mainly because they didn’t think a headshot was necessary when a zombies’ body was usually torn to pieces by powerful weaponry. Unfortunately, sheer numbers caught the military forces completely off-guard and they were quickly overwhelmed. Only a few (if not, only one [Todd Wainio]) survived the slaughter.

There is one link that shows the eventual aftermath of the war. The link to give you info on the aftermath is here.

Rules: Rules listed here are pretty standard, but they are rules no less and they are to be followed.

    1. NO GodModing
    2. No flaming/trolling
    3. NO SPAM! I don’t want my players to be annoyed or, worse, suffer from an epileptic seizure. Just don’t do it.
    4. Use correct grammar and spelling
    5. Sex is allowed, but use it in moderation. Don’t be f**king somebody (… or something?) for 2+ hours and/or 100+ comment margins.
    6. Swearing is also allowed, but, again, use in it moderation. Don’t be dropping F-Bombs every other word.
    7. No player killings without my discretion. Expect the answers to be (usually) yes. Don’t be disappointed. You can always make a new character. Plus, the character may also engage in combat with their attacker in order to defend himself/herself (they may even get a chance to kill or injure their attacker; this will also come under my discretion).
    8. Multi-Characters are allowed, but I (personally) wouldn’t recommend it; too much to keep track of.
    9. While not a rule per se, it’s still worth mentioning. Be as detailed as possible. Use common sense when not to be detailed (i.e. sex, just to name one reason). Regardless, I am a man of stats. Figures and numerical statistics are always a win for me. And don’t worry too much about this; you may not know the population of any given country off the top of your head.
    10. Be realistic. It’s almost a guarantee that you’re not going to “kill” a zombie with one hit; the only case is a lucky (or incredibly well-aimed) shot or perfect strike, both of which are rare occurrences. My word will be the deciding factor in these cases.
    11. Feel free to ask me anything pertaining to the role-play. If you have any questions, I’ll come up with the answers you request. Be sure to PM me.
    12. Last, but certainly not least, have fun. It took time to make it as enjoyable as possible. I hope you enjoy it as much I had making it.

Characters: You can make any character your little heart desires within the laws of common sense and fair logic. I suggest that your first character be based off of yourself. However, I also suggest racial/nationality diversity. Remember, this is a worldwide state of emergency; I would like to know what went on in other parts of the world. PM me your finished character sheet to me.

Character Skeleton: Listed below is the template for creating your character. Be aware that the sheet is full of details. Also, to prevent clutter, the character sheet should be PM'd to me or emailed to me. Will add CS Thread soon...

    Username: [Your username here.]

Character Name: [Your desired name; a FULL name, i.e. “Tyler Pierce”. Middle names, adopted names, suffixes, etc. are optional.]

Occupation: [Your character’s former or current job/career path; determines possible skills and standing in society. P.S. - I don’t want a bunch of military men/women.]

Age: [Your character’s age; use your best judgment when deciding an age.]

Gender: [Your character's gender; Keep in mind that transgender counts, so specify if male to female and vice versa]

Place of Birth: [Your character’s region of birth; specify as “City, State and/or Country, Continent (if necessary)”. May have an effect on religious beliefs.]

Sexual Orientation/Preference: [Fairly obvious here. List “unspecified” if unsure.]

Appearance: [While “portrait-and-profile pictures” are good and recommended, this space is also reserved for physical face descriptions through words]
    1. Height: [Self-explanatory; measured in meters or feet.]
1.1. Tri-Width Measurements (B-W-H or Bust-Waist-Hip Measurements): [Optional; I’m not trying to be perverted, but this only applies to female characters… or can it apply to male characters as well?]

    2. Reach: [Also known as “Wingspan”; usually measured in centimeters or inches. Measures from tip-to-tip of middle fingers on spread out arms.]

    3. Weight: [Self-explanatory; measured in kilograms or pounds.]
3.1. Body Fat %: [Also known as B.M.I. or Body Mass Index; determines your physical state of fitness. The lesser the percentage, the more fit you are. Current average is 13-17% for males and 20-27% for females.]

    4. Hair Color: [Self-explanatory]

    5. Eye Color: [Self-explanatory]

    6. Outfits/Clothing: [The clothing currently worn on your character. If you have the clothes, you can change into them. The only real reason I put this feature in was because of temperature changes that may be encountered and to replace torn/weathered clothing. Also, keep in mind that armor counts as clothing. Disguises may also be a possible option.]
6.1. Head: [Hats, headbands, glasses, etc.]
6.2. Torso: [Shirts, Jackets, Sweatshirts, etc.]
6.3. Arms: [Rings, Watches, Gloves, etc.]
6.4. Legs: [Pants, Shorts, Belts, etc.]
6.5. Feet: [Shoes, Work boots, Socks, etc.]
    7. Misc. Features: [All miscellaneous physical features are list here; i.e. scars or other defects. Don‘t worry about going overboard with the maladies; in the book, a disabled person (paraplegic) and a hibakusha (a blind “Survivor of the Bomb”), both on two different sides of the world, managed just fine in this world gone mad.]

Bio: [Character’s bio; be as brief or as lengthy as you want, all I ask is that you have a bio. Be sure to include what they did and what they had before the war. Basically, their bio is their pre-war “life” story/lifestyle.]

Weapons and Equipment: [Character weapons and equipment, both equipped and packed. Be realistic with weapon choice; no Barrett .50 Anti-Material Rifles (… unless you’re an agent of the Israeli Mossad; even so, chances are you won’t have one) or any other extremely exotic weaponry. Be sure to include weapons that are not meant to be weapons (Baseball bats, Golf clubs, Gardening shears, Heavy-duty flashlights, etc.)]

Skill Set: [Your character’s skills and talents. Keep in mind of your occupation; a stockbroker may know how to use a gun (any fool can “point n’ pull”), but that doesn’t mean he can use it effectively, clean it, repair it, modify it, etc. Use caution. Again, don’t worry; a movie producer/director managed to make a living still doing what he does best: making movies.]

Personality Traits: [Character’s personality. Think “Sims 3” in the terms of traits. Keep trait names down to a couple of words or just one word. Be sure to include any mental illnesses (Pyromania, Kleptomania, Schizophrenia, etc.)]
Enemies: In the insane, semi-apocalyptic world of WWZ, the Undead are not the only thing to worry about. Here is a list of known threats in the world. (PM me if you have any interesting enemy concepts. Show me your ideas.)

Zombies: These types of zombies are the “classic” G.A. Romero “shufflers”. Fairly uncoordinated and slow. Suffers from incredibly low intelligence; lower than or equal to your average insect. Surprisingly good sense of hearing, smell and sight. Usually travel in packs (numbers range between 5 and 35).

Quislings (appropriately named after Vidkun Abraham Lauritz Jonsson Quisling, Nazi-installed president of Norway in WWII; quite possibly more devoted than the SS): Humans who, under the intense mental strain and anxiety of the war, have lost their minds and started acting like the zombies themselves. Can potentially be more dangerous than zombies, as they can gain “energy” from feasting on human flesh, they don’t decompose, and their bites can cause serious bacterial infections (Remember: the human mouth has more bacteria than your most unhygienic dog). However, for obvious reasons, they can be killed easier than zombies, as they bleed when they are shot (They still won’t stop if they are shot; the mind is so dedicated to being like a zombie that they no longer feel any pain).

Bandits: Be it an individual raider or a band of thieves, they usually have one and only one motive in their “lifestyle”: Obtaining profit. It doesn’t matter what it may be (money, treasure, information, etc.) as long it will rake in the cash. While they may work together in groups, they still are concerned with only their personal needs/wants (mostly wants). The phrase “No Honor Amongst Thieves” is accurate for describing these gangs of hooligans. While not sweating ammo and covered in armor, they still are not lightly armed. Expect 1:10-1:5 (10%-20%) chance of a heavy-armed bandit (Stolen assault rifle/shotgun [2-3 clips worth of ammo] and body armor). The average bandit is usually armed with pistols or civilian hunting rifles. Use caution when dealing with them.

Renegade Military/Deserters: While in the midst of battling the Undead, many soldiers went AWOL to avoid their deaths. Knowing that they will be charged and possibly executed for treason and desertion, they have decided that they could manage to survive without help from their allies. These scoundrels share the same mentality as your average bandit. The only major difference is that they are much better armed than bandits. Plus, they actually know how to do various things with their weapon, such as properly aiming, modifying, cleaning, and so on. They also do much better in squads than bandits (some even prefer to be grouped together rather than stand alone). Armament is usually the same as a “heavy” bandit.

Wild Animals: After the Undead have taken over, all manner of creatures in the wilderness have been allowed to run rampant throughout the world. Some perished, while others persevered. While most have been devoured in the early days of the war, some still managed to survive. Because most of the herbivores died from malnutrition, only carnivores and omnivores are left. (The particular reason why the herbivores died out is up for debate. One theory is that because of the contamination from all of the pollution, lost bodily fluids [urine, feces, vomit, blood, etc.] and nuclear fallout [applies mainly to Europe and the Middle East] severely affected the growth of vegetation, reducing biological productivity and eventually lead to extinction of herbivores as a whole.) Be careful when wandering the wilderness; you never know a wild bear or a pack of ravenous wolves will cross your path.
World Status: Unlike most RPG’s, this game allows multiple players in different parts of the world simultaneously. The world’s status is going to change almost constantly. Even after the war is officially over, the world status can make a possible turn for the worst. Yes, we’ll still play even after the war is over. However, you must remember that the war itself took ten years to end (Four years longer than WWII); chances of the war being over before we know it seem pretty unlikely. Regardless, the possibility is still there. The terms used to describe status will be very simple (i.e. "Safe", "Under Attack", "Destroyed/Infested", etc.). Below is a list of places that will have statuses. (PM me if I’m missing crucial countries/islands.)

    1. North America:
    1.1. Pacific Region:
1.2. Mountain Region (A.K.A. “Rockies Safe Zone”):
    1.3. Central Region:

7.4. The Island Territory of Hawai’i:
Conclusion: Well, that about sums it up for my concept. PM me anything you think is worth being in this role-play. Read up on your zombie lore by checking out “The Zombie Survival Guide”; you can get a multitude of ideas just from reading that one 200+ page book. Most of the things that apply to it apply to this. And with that, I say “See you until next time”.

P.S. - Don’t forget to hit them in the head.

Considering the book is a large collection of stories from all across the globe, how is this going to work? Is it just going to be a normal RP but on a global scale?

It's more-or-less a traditional Free-Roam style RP, except there is no exotic locale. EARTH is the locale.

BTW: Your name is totally awesome. LOL

I might be interested except I don't have time atm to make a cs. Seems like it would be a load of fun.
When you are at the right place at the right time, do you have what it takes to do what needs to be done? Could you risk yourself, those that you love, or even those that you don't know? Do you think you could live with yourself if you do or do not? Think about it, one day you might just have to risk everything.
