Calamity - Mercy for The Devil (OOC)
Many thousands of years ago ago, when the human race was still na´ve, and ignorant to the forces around them, two great entities wished to impose their dominion over them.
The forces of God, and his eternal adversary, The Devil, had, for millennia, battled for control of the human race, laying waste to numerous civilizations in the process.
Their eternal struggle had caused the land to falter, the seas to rise, and the sky itself to burn- They had rained destruction down onto the Earth they were seeking to control, and wiped many a human life from it.
But soon, they came to realize, that they were destroying the very creatures they wished to rule: And so, out of necessity, the two lowered their weapons, and made a hostile pact.
They would no longer fight directly, out of fear that they would destroy their future subjects.
Instead, they would each raise and co-ordinate mighty armies, in order to do battle in secret, and protect the human race from devastation.
God was the first to make his army, and created The Angels: An order of powerful astral soldiers, whom wielded swords of flaming justice, and were more than willing to die in the name of their Lord.
Brainwashed, and without their own will, Angels were fiercely loyal, and much like their creator, they knew everything of the universe: However, their blind allegiance made this knowledge useless, and in effect, they knew both everything and nothing.
Still, they were mighty. Their swords could purify the most unholy of realms, and their bodies were like steel, with limitless endurance, making them a particularly deadly form of zealot.
This is when The Devil, a crafty gentleman, began to truly show his colours: He created a race similar to the Angels, very similar indeed.
Forged within the flames of his own unholy realm of Hell, Demons too were very powerful beasts, with great knowledge of their own.
However, they were warriors in human disguises, and would fight with their own bodies, instead of flaming weapons, like their opponents.
Although they could never physically match up to The Angels in terms of raw fire power, they were cunning, and fast: A truly worthy match for God’s sacred band of warriors, having surpassed them in (unhampered) intelligence and wit.
The problem, however, is that Demons were too smart, and even their creator, The Devil, couldn’t control them.
Whilst the Angels obediently cleaved away at the Demonkind who stayed, most Demons were busy elsewhere, carving their notch into society, and refusing orders in the pursuit of chaos, and disorder.
Now, it seemed the deal the two deities had struck had backfired, and humanity was being terrorised by Demonic invaders, whilst The Angels showed no discrimination in slaying mortals that stood between them and their adversaries.
So God, breaking the rules of his agreement with The Devil, gifted the power of The Angels to man,
so that they themselves might frighten the demons back off into the depths of hell.
These humans, imbued with the power to take an artificial Angelic form, became known as Devil Hunters: A secret organization of demon slayers, whom were ordered to watch over man in God’s name.
They control society now, as presidents, police officers, lawyers and news anchors, leading the human race into blissful ignorance as they fight the demonic forces that inhabit our world, and manipulate humanity to their own whims.
But The Devil didn’t appreciate God meddling with their agreement.
So, in a stroke of wicked ingenuity, he ordered his remaining loyal Demons to “Go forth, and multiply!” with the human population.
He did this, knowing that their brood would never know of their true heritage, unless the demon inside of them was triggered.
Until then, no Angel would be able to detect them.
Then, he called all of his demons back into Hell in a temporary retreat, and vowed to God that their battle wasn’t over: Centuries from then, when God had grown weary of the Earth, and his Angels had perished as a result of his disinterest, The Devil swore he would release his Demons back into the world, to dominate the human race, as he'd intended to from the start.
Then, he sealed Hell off, with a lock that only the Demonkin would be able to break.
When they were activated, The Devil believed that would be his signal to return.
And as time went on, God fell silent, no longer listening to the calls of man.
But The Devil did not come. Instead, he was overthrown, to entertain a new demon king, and then another, and another.
And as a result, the Demonkin were never activated. And they, and their descendants, would continue to live human lives.
The human world carried on unimpeded, and although some children exhibited unnatural strength, or odd, hereditary birthmarks, nobody paid them much heed.
That is, until a third entity appeared.
Known only as ‘The Interloper’, this neutral force favoured making things interesting over making things fair, and in a display of power that rivaled that of God or The Devil, he broke the seal that had been placed over Hell, and invited the Demons back to the human world, in order to “Shake things up a bit.”
At this point, The Devil Hunters, now known simply as The Angelus amongst their own ranks, resurfaced from their submergence in society.
Having gone dormant in the absent of Demons, The Devil Hunters never disappeared, they simply took greater roles in society to keep an eye out for their hell born adversaries.
However, the moment the first Hell Gate opened, The Angelus were happy to return to their position as prime Demon slayers.
At first, the Demonkin remained safe, blissfully unaware of their own heritage, and not even paying thought to the possibility of Demons existing.
Until The Interloper, not satisfied by the growing war between the Demons and Angelus, he removed the protection of the Demonkin: Giving the Angelus the ability to detect them.
Suddenly forced into battle, each Demonkin is activated one by one, and imbued with their demonic powers.
However, The Devil’s plan has failed him.
Instead of joining the Demon legions, many (but not all) Demonkin are proud to be human, and refuse to fight for their enslavement.
Instead, they have begun to use their powers to battle both The Angelus and The Demons, but not without learning a few things first…
The Demonkin Encyclopaedia
Hello! We’ve got a bit of bad news, because it seems you’ve died before your time, sorry.
However, the good news is that you’re alive: Because if you’re reading this guide, you’re Demonkin!
Below are a few little journal entries that should help you get a little more informed on your situation.
Jumping right into it, a Demonkin is the offspring of a human and a demon, or the descendant of a previous Demonkin.
As part of The Devil’s plan to secure his victory during his war against God, he instructed his Demon army to mate with the human population.
He did this because Demonkin would be given the benefit of surprise, being undetectable until their Demonic halves were triggered by a premature death.
Being only half demon, Demonkin take the form of normal human beings, whom retain one demonic feature, be it a tattoo or a body part, which is imbued with the entirety of their power between transformations.
They can take full Demon form only when they feel intense bursts of emotion, however, they can utilize demonic powers and weapons in their mortal form too (things such as wall running, and claws.)
Demonkin, for the most part, fight in the name of humanity. However, as The Angelus regard them as possible Demonic sympathisers, they’re still hunted, perhaps even more so because of how easily they can blend into society if they go un-dealt with.
Demonkin retain two personalities; Their own, and that of their demonic half, whom retains some sentience, although they cannot exercise their will over their human halves (unless they go full demon.)
This is so a Demonkin can look to their inner Demon for power in moments of weakness, however, their Demon may not always feel obliged to help, and may even encourage their human halves to perform crimes in order to sate its first for chaos.
Demonkin cannot be killed by conventional, man-made weapons. However, they can be damaged by them, and their regeneration only kicks in when the hostilities have ceased.
The only thing that can kill a Demonkin thoroughly is an enchanted weapon, most commonly, a holy weapon forged by The Devil Hunters.
Demonkin all have elemental affiliations that affect the appearance of their demon form, and the powers that come with it.
It’s said that the order of The Angelus predate Demonkin by as many as one hundred years.
When Demons were causing uproar in the human population, and The Angels proved to have no moral compass when slaying their foes, God reached out to an organization of would-be Demon slayers, and gifted them with the power of The Angels.
However, his method was different to his rivals. Instead of instructing his Angels to breed, he made being Angelus a choice, and gave them a means through which they may make themselves into artificial half-angels.
These angels would lack the infinite knowledge and flaming swords of their predecessors, but would gain a moral compass, and the ability to detect demons within their vicinity.
Armed with their angelic powers, and holy weapons forged during the Angelus ritual, they became known as The Devil Hunters, proficient Demon slayers ordered to chase the Demons back into hell.
It was their creation that inspired The Devil to make Demonkin.
The Angelus have a simple mission statement: Kill everything unholy.
Any Demon, Demonkin, or anything of the sort, must be wiped from the Earth to preserve the human race.
Be they loved ones or family, there are no exceptions: This is a matter of kill or be killed.
That said, in the past, The Angelus have been known to harbour agents whom work with Demons in order to take down bigger groups, granting the aforementioned Demon immunity as a reward.
Although the Demonkin have never been activated before, The Angelus knew of their existence, and hunted for them endlessly, knowing very well that they were cloaked.
Angelus are not real Angels, but instead, artificial – The process of making them into these artificial angels, however, converts them into a creature similar to Demonkin, as they too become half of a specific creature.
Angelus fall into a similar elemental tree to Demons and Demonkin, and often this affects their powers and form.
Angelus, unlike Demonkin, can take Angelic Form whenever they want, by speaking their own personal incantation. However, in human form, they can still be killed by man-made weapons, a weakness the Demonkin do not share. That said, their Angelic form drains the energy of it's host, making it a temporary solution.
Demons were The Devil’s own personal army, forged within the heart of Hell.
They’re known to be cunning as well as powerful, and were capable of taking human form, something the now long since extinct Angels could not.
They were, however, too smart for the Devil to control, and so many left in pursuit of their own goals, returning to Hell only after learning of the Demonkin plan from The Devil himself.
Demons are not strictly evil, but this is mostly the case: They are considered Lawful and Chaotic Evil, respectively, although the levels of such differ from Demon to Demon.
Unlike Angelus, Demons are rather fond of Demonkin, often trying to recruit them to their ranks before killing them.
This may be because they remind them of a time where Demons walked amongst men freely, but it’s just as likely it’s a matter of recruiting every demon they can for their take over.
Demons come in many shapes and sizes, and correspond to many elements. These often influence their appearance and abilities, and are listed below;
Angels, said to be the first army raised during the great conflict between God and The Devil, are astral beings of immense power, whom wielded flaming swords, and were fiercely loyal to their creator.
It’s believed that since God left humanity to its own means, Angels have gone extinct, no longer having a purpose to serve.
Nobody remembers what Angels look like, and it’s said that their beauty would have blinded anybody who was to lay their eyes upon them.
That said, they were theorized to be heavily armoured, and winged, much like the prototypical Angelus.
The Interloper is the third party in the war between God and The Devil.
A neutral party with no allegiance, but a penchant for putting fun before fairness, The Interloper is the one who triggered the Demonkin, and gave The Angelus the ability to detect them.
Although he was never mentioned in the origin story of any creature involved in the war, it’s presumed that he was at least present, as he shows power that rivals both participants.
His plans for the future are unknown, as he disappeared shortly after the Demonkin and The Angelus first met, and has returned only for short periods of time to converse with both sides.
He appears to have a human form, but whether this is consistent is unknown.
Hell Gates are the doorways through which Demons enter and leave Hell. Although they have no specific shape, they tend to be grand structures, often monoliths or obelisks, disguised as other objects.
The Hell Gates have been dormant for hundreds of years, but now the seal on Hell is broken, all of them have been reactivated.
The amount of Hell Gates that exist is unknown, but they’re believed to be in their thousands, and it’s unclear how they form, they simply seem to appear.
An important part of the war was weapons. Whilst Angels tended to wield flaming swords, Demons were more likely to transform parts of their own body into weapons- as such, Demonkin and Angelus tend to wield weapons differently.
An Angelus’s weapons are made during the ritual that creates their angel form. This weapon tends to be bladed (although firearms aren’t impossible), and cannot be broken by conventional means.
They radiate great heat, and can be summoned even when they’re not in Angel form.
Demonkin’s weapons are created from their body when they first take Demonform.
Generally, they’re an extension of the body, such as a claw, or an arm-mounted blade, but pole-arms and guns aren’t unheard of in the Demonic community.
[The Rusted Corkscrew]
The base of operations for the Demonkin, The Rusted Corkscrew is a disused bar and pool hall, that’s since been converted into a multi-room apartment for any Demonkin fighting against the Demonic hordes.
In downtown New York, it’s relatively well hidden amongst other shifty looking taverns, and although it isn’t the height of luxury, it serves its purpose well.
[The Church of Our Lady and Saint John]
The Church of Our Lady and Saint John, simply abbreviated to ‘The Church’, is a place of worship in uptown New York, and the main base of The Angelus.
Although at first sight it appears to be a simple church, beneath it there is a grand system of tunnels and chambers that The Angelus use in order to find, capture, hold and torture demons.
Furthermore, they connect to the New York sewer system, ensuring that The Angelus can make their way around the city swiftly.

Name: Bryce Connolly
Personality description: Bryce is cocky and self confident, and often comes off as a little more brash than he intends to be. Young at heart and rebellious, he gives the illusion of having no fear, despite the fact his dreams are haunted by the images of friends and family that have passed.
These dreams, and his relationship with his brother, however, are what makes him so effective as part of a team, as he strides to keep casualties to a minimum for the sake of his own sanity.
A brief description of appearance (description is preferable to pictures): Standing at 6'1, Bryce is caucasian, with long, wavy brown hair and broad shoulders. His eyes are a piercing combination of icy blue and green, and can be discouraging to people who're unprepared.
He wears a long red overcoat, and beneath that, a general jeans and shirt ensemble that changes often.
The defect that defines you as a demon: A Celtic cross tattoo across his back, and the word Deamhan written on his left forearm.
Biography: Bryce was born as the oldest of three children, to a couple living in Tiree, Scotland.
Before being activated, he'd been a bar tender working in a roadside tavern, along with his younger brother, Gales.
His sister, Sandra, however, couldn't work, as she was too sickly. Whatever spare time Bryce had, he spent nursing her, but he never managed to make her strong enough.
He worked as a bar tender for four years, before The Angelus became capable of sensing him, and cornered him, and his sister, another Demonkin, in an alleyway after a party.
After gunning them down, they fled, and both were triggered into their demonic forms.
Bryce grew far stronger with this power, and went on to track down and kill the agents that had first killed him.
His sister, however, couldn't handle it.
After dying for the first time, she proved too weak to handle her demonic transformation, and suffered a terminal heart attack as a result of the stress, killing her.
When he learned of the news, his younger brother, whom, through pure statistics, hadn't been born Demonkin, was disgusted.
He disowned his family, cursing their name, and left to join The Angelus, before climbing through the ranks.
It was on that same day that Bryce swore he'd battle the forces of Hell, and plunge himself into the abyss, so he could drag Sandra back to the world of the living. And after saying a teary goodbye to his family and his home, he left for New York, where he's slowly embraced his demonic side over the course of four years.
Weapon: Crystalline Claws - Two Gauntlets with clawed fingers form over Bryce's hands. They're made of a red, flexible substance, surrounded by a crystalline blue exoskeleton. He uses them in hand-to-hand combat.
Name: Balor Aegis
Description of appearance: Balor is a demon of crimson skin, with long, flowing black hair and bright green eyes. He has an exoskeleton identical to that of his gauntlets (which he still dons in full demonic form), but it can barely be seen beneath the red felt suit he wears over it. From beneath his hair, two huge, curved red horns grow when Balor is forced into battle, but otherwise, they remain hidden, and his hair exhibits behaviour that suggests it's alive.
Name: Gales Connolly
Personality description: Gales retains the air of a man who was once fun loving and free. However, now he's cold, and although he exhibits warmth to those he likes, it's clear his job comes before his relationships.
A brief description of appearance (description is preferable to pictures): Gales stands 5'9, and wears his straw blonde hair straight, and below his shoulders. His eyes are a soft blue, and gleam beneath the lenses of his circular-rimmed glasses.
His skin is pale, and his cheeks are freckled. He also wears a suit, a crisp white suit, with a light blue tie.
Goal as an Angelus: Wipe out the demon populous, his brother included, and then march into hell and take back his sister.
Biography: Gales was once a fun loving young man. He spent his days as a youth working in a bar with his older brother, Bryce, and together they'd spend their summers fishing, and their winters sledging. In the spring, they'd chase birds, and in the autumn, they'd play conkers. The two were inseparable.
However, that all changed when Bryce turned out to be a Demonkin.
He woke Gales up in the early morning to explain the situation... and explain how their sister died.
But Gales would never believe a demon. No, Bryce must have killed her, sweet little Sandra could never have been Demonkin.
So when Bryce was preparing to leave Scotland, Gales made contact with The Angelus, and requested to be recruited into their ranks.
After four years of training and climbing through the ranks, Gales was transferred to America in order to protect the population from the growing Demon threat, and once learning of his brother's presence, made it his mission to slay all Demonkin.
Weapon: Moralltach, a scythe imbued with Angelic energy.
Name: Nola Ursa
Description of appearance: Nola Ursa is a tall, armoured figure, with broad shoulders and a big build.
He resembles a knight in appearance, as he wears white plated armour, embellished with light blue writing. His helmet obscures his face, but from the back, his long, flowing blonde hair can be seen.
Personality: Nola Ursa is a very un-compassionate and relentless figure, whom is willing to go out of his way to track a Demon for miles before slaying it. He enjoys drawing out their pain with elongated periods of torture, but it's hard to tell how much joy it brings him, as he often comes off as cold and calculating.
He's been known to call off battles to protect civilians, but shows no such courtesy for injured team mates.
Weapon: Aeigus, a large steel battle axe with various symbols carved into the blades.
Alignment: Chaotic good.

To make sure I got this right, if I want to be Angelus, I have to do the Human and Angel CS...same with Demonkin?
Age: 24 (Actually 154)
Personality description: Selestiar is kind and loving of all beings. She's not as much of a talker, as an observer. In her opinion, the worst people in the word are liars (right under the Demons), and if you lie to her, she will never forgive you. She's usually extremely polite, even to her enemies. Even with a burning hatred for you, she will treat you with respect.
A brief description of appearance (description is preferable to pictures): White-blond hair, pale skin, and pale blue eyes. She's thin, and usually wears ankle-length skirts and colorful blouses.
Goal as an Angelus: To hunt down and kill any demon/demonkin
Biography: She first appeared in Boston, and she has no memory of what happened before that. Selestiar trained with the Angelus, becoming more and more powerful day by day. She lived through each of the human wars, and watched with excitement, the changes in the world. She cried when the bomb fell on Hiroshima, and wailed on September 11th, losing hope quick for mankind. Even with the belief that humankind is doomed, Selestiar does her best to concentrate on her one goal.
Weapon: Large, double-sided axe.
I know something about this isn't right lol. I'll make any corrections you suggest right away :3
