Forbidden Siren: Reflections in Red Water

    "Eternity..."

The Japanese village of Hitoride lies up ahead.
We all have our reasons for being there. But nothing can prepare us for what we see upon our arrival:

    "Joy..."

Villagers, their smiling faces ghastly, pale, and dripping blood from their eyes, noses, mouths, and ears.
Some are laughing, and some are crying. Every single one carrying on as if they had forgotten death had already come for them.

    "Self..."

And as we watch them, we feel ourselves changing.
What was it that we wanted, again?

    "Purity..."

The red rain falls upon us,
And we begin laughing and crying as well.

This is a horror roleplay inspired by the Forbidden Siren video game series.

You have traveled to the abandoned village of Hitoride ("hee-toh-ree-day") for a particular reason, whether it is to study the folk religion, return to a place of birth, or simply to study Japanese culture. You've heard ghost stories, and it is commonly believed that the village is haunted. When you arrive, the superstition is proven true when the Shibito appear. These are the tortured souls of the people who once roamed the town. Think of them as "zombies", if you will. But they are not quite undead, and not quite alive. Smiles are plastered on their faces, and blood leaks from their orifices. The policeman still carries his gun, but his sense of duty has been replaced by a murderous hostility toward outsiders. The children still roam around their homes and draw pictures, but their messages are illegible and meaningless. The housewife still serves dinner for her family, but the meal has been replaced with strange, bloody, uncooked meat of unknown origin.

They do not die. They do not feel pain, nor will they feel sympathy when they kill you. When you incapacitate them, they simply fall to the ground and curl up for a short while before regaining consciousness and continuing with their "lives".

They continue to survive because of the mysterious red water surrounding the village. It heals them, as well as quenches their thirst. It will heal you, as well. However, you must not drink the water. Do not drink from the rivers, do not let it into your wounds. Or else, you may become one of the Shibito...

... But what will you do when the red rain begins to fall?

You have escaped their sight for now. Your only chance is to find the woman in red. She has all of the answers you seek.

    SETTING:

Hitoride is in a secluded, woody area of Japan. The houses are made of wood, and the technology is quite dated. Most phones are unusable, but there are some payphones that still work. There are no computers or other advanced technologies. The buildings are in poor shape, almost all appliances are in a state of disrepair, and there is no running water. There are several shrines around the village, and a river full of red water runs around the perimeter into a, you guessed it, red lake.

    FORMAT:

I will be acting as your GM and overlord (hee), and helping to push the story along. I will also be playing the role of the mysterious Woman in Red. There will be times when your character(s) must die, but I urge you not to worry; Not only will you be able to continue as a deadly Shibito, but the condition may not be as permanent as you might think. All of the player characters will be divided into pairs, and I will randomly assign you a location and scenario. Occasionally the story will dictate that you become separated, and you will swap partners with another.

    RULES:

    1. Please be somewhat active, otherwise you will automatically become a Shibito until you are allowed to become a human player character again.
    2. Absolutely no godmodding. Shibito cannot be killed, even by headshots. You may not have the means to incapacitate them, so you don't need to try every time.
    3. Grammar, spelling, and an understanding of this environment is important.

    CHARACTERS:

Please create two character sheets in case we have uneven pairs.

    Name:
    Age: (18 minimum)
    Appearance: (written description, please)
Skill: (limited to 1, i.e. climbing, running, etc.)
Weapon of choice: (you will not start out with this weapon, and you need a good reason for it to be a gun)
Biography: (the reason your character is in Hitoride)
    Miscellaneous Info:

Please continue to post characters and please ask any questions that you have! ♫

    Q. What is a Shibito like?
    A. The answer to this question can be found in this video:

As you can see, Shibito talk, walk, and act like regular human beings, but they will kill any living person they come across. They have regular motor skills, eyesight, hearing, and speed. They can open doors, climb stairs, and use weapons and firearms. The only things they cannot do are die, carry on a conversation, and reason.

    Q. Why did the people turn into Shibito?
    A. It's a see~cret. ♫

    Q. What if my partner doesn't post?
    A. After a reasonable amount of time, I will take care of it.

    Q. Do I have to have played the game to understand this story?
    A. I will do my best to explain, but generally, no, you don't need to have intimate knowledge of the game. I do recommend playing the first Siren for the PS2 though, because I loved it, and looking up some YouTube videos couldn't hurt either.

Okay, so far I have received character sheets from:

    Spiritdragon
    Aisling
    Katakana
    Mateotis
    RedDusk

Does anyone have any questions? I also wanted to let everyone vote on how we should start. Would you rather:

    A) Start off by playing both of your characters together, or
    B) Start off with everyone's characters randomly split into pairs

As I've mentioned, I plan on switching the groups up regardless.

The way this will work is that I will write a starting location and scenario for each group, and all of us will cooperate on controlling the Shibito (NPCs). The only non-Shibito character I will be controlling is the Woman in Red. For the most part, I will simply be acting as a narrator. Does this sound good to everyone?

I'm gonna go with B as well because its easy for me to explain in character how Temero and Dawn get separated without having to play it out.

It's a very strange setting, as characters never commented on the weather being cold/warm. I would say spring weather would probably be accurate. It'll be raining the whole time regardless.
