    Bedlam High IC

    The sound of an alarm clock blaring in his ear was a horrible thing to wake up to. How did humans do this everyday? It was just one last thing he would never miss once he finally went back home. Orren turned off his alarm and slowly sat up. His black hair stuck out in every direction, in desperate need of a brushing. He slowly crawled out of bed and staggered to his dresser, practically running into it. Orren was not a morning person, nor would he ever be.

    After getting dressed, the selkie boy made his way into the bathroom to brush his teeth and to make himself more presentable. His roommate was still asleep in the tub; no surprise there. He finished brushing his teeth before trying to rouse the merman. "Nick," Orren grunted, "It's time to get up." Nick was a good guy, he supposed. He was a good roommate, at least. Orren didn't have to worry about his stuff taking over the whole room. Like himself, the fish boy didn't seem to own all that much.

    Orren brushed his hair out before he left the bathroom to Nick. His first class this morning would be English, which he supposed he enjoyed. He was better at it than he'd originally thought he would be. But home on the shores of Scotland, they spoke English, but the fey people had their own language. Orren collected the books he would need for the morning: English, History of Monsters, Math, and A&P. All the 'norm' classes were in the morning, save for History of Monsters. Orren had taken World History in his first year. The monster classes were a bit more interesting, save for his very least favorite: Sexual Control Education. Unfortunately, as a selkie, he fell under the 'seductive' monster class, even if he'd never seduced a single person in his entire life. The class was awkward in the worse ways, and there was this one girl who sat next to him that wouldn't leave him alone. Other than that, classes went by pretty fast.

    =====================

    Meanwhile, a similar scene was in progress a few doors down. Zinzie was awoken by Woodrow's alarm clock. The naked little imp zipped out of his bed and across the room to stomp on the Off button. The energetic imp then darted through the air, back to his little corner on the room. His entire 'room' was set up on a card table in the corner, made of what looked like doll furniture. His little bed was never made, and his little dresser was a bit beat up. Zinzie pulled out one of the drawers, the only drawer he ever used, and took out one of his three pairs of cargo pants. After pulling them on, he flitted to the bathroom, where a tiny toothbrush awaited.

    Zinzie stood on the edge of the sink to brush, and carefully hovered by the stream of water coming out of the facet to rinse. He didn't even bother brushing his spiky hair, he just gave it a good shake. Now ready to go, the imp flew back into the bedroom and landed on the bedstand next to Woodrow. "Woody," He chirped. "It's time to uuuuuup!" Zinzie didn't have his own books, as he would never be able to carry them. Instead, his class schedule was the same as Woodrows, so that he could just look off of the were-bear's books.

    Alice's Regeneration chamber opened and released some steam with it. Alice blinked a bit her systems starting to come online. She lifted herself to a sitting position silently and calmly. Thankfully for Alice Des was still asleep. Even though Alice had to do it every night she was still slightly shy about sleeping naked. Alice quickly made her way to her dresser and pulled out her Favorite dress. She slipped it on along with some other under clothes and walked into the bathroom. Alice grabbed her brush and and lightly combed her hair smiling a bit at her fully skinned appearance. She never did like going to sleep with her mechanical face showing, so when she woke up it was a relief that she didn't have to look at it again.

    Alice smiled to check and make sure her teeth were still the correct shade of white. As Alice inspected them she noted that they were a bit to white and there needed to be some adjustments to the color setting. She shrugged and decided not to dwell on it to long. Alice walked back into Her room and closed the lid of her regeneration chamber. "Des get up it's time for school" Alice told her kindly and shook her bed a bit. Alice then went to grab her books. "Okay lets see English, A&P, Math, and History of Monsters" Alice told herself reminding herself of her schedule. She placed her books in her side bag and opened the door to leave. "Don't be late to your first class" Alice yelled back to Des and she then closed the door behind her and was on her way.

    Need a clue?

    Nicholas heard the voice of his roommate. It was too early for him to get up, or so he thought. Once he heard Orren leave, he slowly grumbled and pushed himself up out of the tub of water. Every night, before he went to sleep, Nick filled up the tub with water and salts so that he could keep from drying out. After grabbing a towel and patting himself to stop dripping, he put on a black shirt and khaki shorts, a habit from spending time with humans. He patted down his hair, just to make sure no stands were sticking up randomly.

    Grabbing his messenger bag, he put his morning class books in it. Chemistry, English, a worthless class because he already spoke English, Math, and History of Monsters. His schedule wasn't terrible, he just didn't like going to class. For a split second he thought about ditching, but decided against it. Double checking his bag, he grabbed his canteen and ran out the door.

    The most important thing in the mornings wasn't getting to class on time. No, for the young merman, it was breakfast. He soon reached the cafeteria and grabbed some food before sitting down. The great thing about the school for monsters was the wide variety of food. There was almost always sea food, but for right now Nick was eating a slice of pizza. By now he had figured out how to time his eating without being late to class.

    Aquila opened her eyes lazily and yawned, stretching her arms over her head. She wondered where she had fallen asleep this time, as tired as she was from the late night party that had as far as she could remember, started in one of the dorm rooms and had eventually spread into the halls to god knows where. She had a dull ache in her head from a decent hangover that made her cringe before she took in her surroundings, hoping she had at least found of had been moved into some water before passing out. She lucked out, someone had carted her back to her dorm or maybe she had wandered back, either way she was grateful as she sat up in the bathtub. The sound of water trickling down her skin as she moved echoed through the bathroom. Upon standing up, she saw an unconscious Minotaur on the floor next to the tub and frowned, guessing he passed out not long after filling up her tub. His massive bulk took up most of the floor and she had to stretch her legs to step over him and reach the sink where she quickly cleaned herself up and covered herself in a layer of gel to help preserve her moisture before taking her various jugs of water off her belt she wore to carry them and refilled them, cleaning out the ones that carried alcohol and wondered if the party had been crashed by any teachers. Probably not, though you couldn't be too sure. Rubbing her eyes after placing all the bottles back on their buckles she proceeded to tiptoe from the room, satisfied with how she looked since she needed next to no care to look as ravishing as she did. Humming to herself, she entered the rest of her dorm and picked out some new clothes to wear for the day. As in, the skimpiest clothes the campus would allow. Bikini tops and mini skirts were her friend, paired with bare feet and lots of shiny jewelry and she was ready to go... In a bit, she didn't feel like going to class just yet as her headache was bothering her. So she grabbed her bag containing her books and her wallet and headed to the cafeteria to see if they had anything to help her sober up.

    Woodrow rolled his bulk over on his side he was in his half shifted form so bear like but still with human traits. He knew already though he wouldn’t go back to sleep. He also knew the little imp wouldn’t stop unless he got up if Woodrow was late Zinzie would be too. Reluctantly Woody sat up and stretched much like a bear and glanced around with a yawn. He swung his legs to the floor and walked to the bathroom while still talking to Zinzie.
    “Morning little buddy. Time for class already? English right?”
    After a quick shower brushing his teeth and general up keeping Woodrow came back in to his shared room. Rooting around his dresser he started flinging his clothes out left and right. Pulling on his favorite pair of jeans and a red flannel shirt he started another search for his boots and favorite hat. After maybe a minute he had his boots on and his Cubs baseball hat perched on his head. Woodrow looked over at Zinzie with a grin.
    “What do you think today bear, half-bear, or norm form?”

    Echo Hollier had arrived at the school a bit late. The year had began without her, as she had a bit of trouble getting prepared for her departure from home. While her parents struggled to find the appropriate books, school supplies, etc. she explored the forest surrounding her home, not acknowledging that life as she knew it was changing. She ended up getting lost for a few days, though she thought of it as an adventure. When her parents finally found her they took her immediately to the school.

    She walked through the hallways now looking for her dorm room, carrying and dragging quite a bit of luggage and clutching a slightly crumpled schedule. Her wings were retracted, they would only get in the way when she was carrying so much. Her pink hair was put up in bouncy pigtails, each tied with a long, bendy stem. She had also plucked a large daisy from outside and stuck it into the right pigtail, as an accessory. She wore a soft green dress that was flowy and bouncy, like her hair, and it's length ended just above her knees. She wasn't fond of shoes, but she supposed she had to wear them at school so she chose simple slip on flats.

    Her deep purple eyes lit up when she saw the door number she was looking for. She adjusted everything she was holding, not noticing that she dropped her schedule in the process, so that she had a free hand to place on the doorknob. She swung it open and charged inside with intense excitement to meet her new roommate.

    Early in the morning, Gabriel had woken up again to watch the sunrise…easy to say watch, even though he had no eyes, magic was funny like that. Then, the rest of the time he had spent reading…which is also very easy to say, but awkward when you think about it. Gabe has no fingers…which is, once again, where the fae magic fit into the picture. With the high dependency on the magical enchantment cast upon him, it was a wonder that it hadn’t run out already. In fact, most animate changelings never lasted up to preteen years, their magic fading off and the changeling turning to blocks of wood or bundles of dry grass in front of their human parent’s very eyes. Yet, here he was, going to classes at a young adult-ish age…they really didn’t know what to make of him, so they gave him the same sort of schedule they’d give fae changelings, and wished him the best.

    Shutting the hard cover book, Gabe looked over at the wall clock, approximately an hour before class. Since he didn’t need to freshen up like most living beings, he merely got to work on changing his outfit from pants and sweater, to his usual leather jacket. It was comforting to know that what he had on could potentially save his life in the near future, flame retardant material lining the inside of the jacket admittedly wasn’t the best in dealing with his problem, but it helped…also knowing where all the fire extinguishers in the building were kept helped a lot too.

    Reaching over and picking up his textbook filled book bag, which was kind of heavy for his meagre wooden frame, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out his schedule for the morning. English, A&P, History of Monsters, then Math. Best just to head off to English class. Leaving his dorm and making sure it was locked behind him, he made his way over…

    Alice's voice began to rouse Desireé, per their daily routine. She'd be in a deep sleep when Alice would wake and get ready. She'd call out to Des, who usually didn't hear it. When Alice headed out she'd call out to her again, to which Desireé would groan and start to move. Within ten minutes she'd find the motivation to get out of bed and start getting ready. Brush her hair, mess it up, brush her teeth, head back into the room to find some clothes, get sidetracked with something or another, drink some soda, find the clothes, change, search around for where she had discarded her jacket the night before, check the thick bracelet on her wrist would stay there, find her boots and put them on. Ducking back into the bathroom to check herself, Des looked at her reflection in surprise. She had gotten slightly paler, her features standing out more. But she knew she would need to drink soon, that wasn't what she was staring at. Just peeking out from behind the lining of her jacket there was a small puncture wound colored the intense scarlet color of fresh blood. Pulling down the top of her shirt, she found the other one a couple inches away.

    She groaned, zipping the bottom of her jacket so the edge covered last night's marks. She had hoped they would have healed by now, but that was karma, huh? Punishment for staying out so damn late. But it had definitely been worth it, and it wasn't like she hadn't left any marks on him. Pushing off the counter she left the bathroom and departed the room. She knew she was already late for class, but this was the usual. The night before replayed in her head as she lapped the school to find her classroom. She had headed out to the party, but most of the people there were already wasted and she wasn't looking for a sloppy mess. She ended up running into Lance, another senior vampire. They had already spent the night a few times before. There was just something about the rush and the buzz of drinking another and being drunk from that kept them running into each other after one too many lonely nights. Desireé expected it was something like how ecstasy felt to humans, the same kind of high. Definitely worth the bite marks.

    Zinzie flitted off the nightstand and plopped himself down on his friend's broad shoulder. "Humans are too plain. Do something fuzzy." His little devil tail swished as he grinned wickedly. "But hurry up before all the good food is gone! I hope they have bacon today." Zinzie's hopes were almost always for naught. They always had bacon at the breakfast bar, every single morning. In fact, the array of foods they offered were amazing. There was everything from human blood, raw meat, junk food, normal breakfast food, plants of all sorts, and even things most considered inedible. Zinzie's favorite breakfast was bacon and a biscuit, but he could never finished all of it. He usually got Woody to put it on his tray, and then just eat when he could.

    ==================

    Meanwhile, Orren's bag was almost ready to go. His books were packed, his hair was brushed, his pencils were sharpened, but there was one last thing that he could never forget. Orren lifted up his pillow to take out a pelt that rested safely underneath. He rubbed his thumbs over the soft fur for a moment. The pelt was just as pristine as ever; it never seemed to wear with age. It was folded neatly like a blanket, but was small enough to set in his bag. Orren did so carefully before shutting his pack and shouldering it.

    His next order of business was breakfast. Orren almost never varied his menu, because he never got tired of what he ate: fish. Raw fish. One thing he loved about this school was the sheer variety of fish they offered. It was probably the only thing he would miss once he was back home in the waters of Scotland. Orren got in line for the sea food bar. Most of the other students waiting were sea creatures as well. He recognized a few, but didn't bother speaking to them. As said before, he wasn't much of a morning person.

    Orren loaded up his plate with a salmon fillet, octopus, squid, shrimps, a cod fillet, a handful of whole sandeel, a some krill. All of the seafood could be cooked to order, but Orren liked it just the way it was: slimy, fishy, and raw. It went down easier that way. He took his plate over to one of the many tables and sat himself down. His favorite was the raw squid. He had to hold it firmly as he picked one up whole. If he'd been in his seal form, he could have easily swallowed it down without a single chew, but as a human, he was forced to take his time. The table he sat at was mostly inhabited by other seadwellers, those who didn't think twice about a guy eating raw fish. Most other students avoided the fish eater table like the plague, lest they lose their appetite.

    Ugh, the taste of coffee was terrible.

    She wrinkled her nose at the offending drink before taking another sip and forcing it down. She would never understand why humans were addicted to the stuff but she knew it was good for hangovers from past experience. This was not the first time she had been drunk but she honestly didn't try to get drunk. Usually she partied until her skin dried out and avoided the drinks as much as possible, she didn't remember much of last night so she was unable to recall why she had gotten so drunk but she knew it was never a good thing. Running her hand through her tentacles she prepped herself for another drink of the black substance. Ick, just ick.

    Rubbing her temples she finished up the blasted drink and moved the cup away from her before sliding a plates of fresh crab, sea snails, slugs, coupled with a few live clams in front of her and moving onto it to hide the taste of the rancid coffee. The strong taste of crab meat delighting her taste buds, causing her tentacle hair to curl and twist to signify her delight. She even curled her toes, savoring every bite until she finished the crab. She sat among the group of other sea dwellers, making short conversation and muttered the basic hellos when another came to sit with a plate of squid. She tried not to look at it as she herself was distantly related to that little fella and understood that it was a fact of life. Though she hated it, she accepted it as she picked up a live sea slug and placed it between her lips, where it dissapeared with a soft sucking sound. She preferred most of her food live, because that assured it would be fresh but understood with the crabs how they can be sneaky if left alive. She looked perkier by the time she was on her third snail, slipping her tentacle like tongue into the shell to extract the living snail from its home to deliciously swallow to bring about its demise.
