φ¤Atreus Academy¤φ|OOC

Atreus; the largest city by far on the surface of Earth, has reintroduced the concept of unified world. A powerful disease once threatened the livelihood of humanity 60 years ago, reducing the population to a mere 1 billion. Fortunately, a cure was found before extinction twisted it cruel claws around the human race, this serum, now know as the God Molecule has saved countless lives, but of course no miracle comes without its setbacks. The serum has mutated those born within the last 50 years due to immunization taking place at birth for all children born within this time period. This mutation has only affected 40% of the remaining populace, those mutated have gained supernatural powers beyond that of any normal human ability. Unfortunately, because of these powers they have been severely discriminated against by normal humans, and have been forced into ghettos and hunted in other locations because of their powers. The metropolis of Atreus is arguably the safest place for most of these individuals, here they are dubbed, Parahumans, and live in the urban slum of Frebourne which is located just south of the main, wealthier district; Atreus. For the denizens of both cities a revolutionary institution exists to integrate both races, Atreus Academy. Burgeoning threats lurk in the distance for the metropolis of Atreus and its controversial Academy which might as well be a target; as Parahuman revolutionaries, and Human Governments do battle with one another. With another fleet of students rushing through this year, will this world sink in its ignorance? Or can one hope for an integrated world?

Atreus
The metropolis of Atreus contains the largest density of humans on Earth, the Academy itself exists on the very border of the city, but close enough for the government to watch. Believe it or not, despite there being strict segregation laws between Humans and Parahumans; there are Parahumans who live among the population, although most of them come from prestigious families who would not forsake the integrity of their name to the existence of a Parahuman within the clan. So these individuals have probably been trained at a young age to hide their problems. In the metropolis exists the lower-high class, and the upper-high class, who usually have government positions, or have some type of hold over the city. (for example, an upper high class fortune 500 company that owns an electric company, or supplies fuel.) The Lower-high class are just as wealthy, but they usually have no say in government affairs. Destitutes and mendicants are very uncommon in Atreus and they are either shunned on, or sent to Frebourne.

Atreus Academy
The Academy is home to both humans and Parahumans, it is an institution crafted to educate and expand the idea of a unified society. It is currently in its 10th year of admissions, and the student population seems to grow with every incoming school year. Here your Human or Parahuman character will learn to control and grow with their powers and talents, with the help of the teachers around them. Students take up residency on campus, and admission is free to those willing to submit to the Academy's tenets. The location of the Academy is surrounded by Gothic architecture, a testament to the integrity and logevity of humankind, it exists in the oldest district of Atreus and is visualized as a much more posh location compared to the futuristic constructs it is surrounded by. The Academy accepts Parahumans, as well as Humans who show outstanding talent in the arts or sciences, there is no formal audition for talented humans, although there is a blood test used to identify Parahumans in the population. The Academy prides itself on being one of the safest places within the city and it has continued to act as so for the last 10 years.

Frebourne
Frebourne is a haven for nearly all Parahumans who choose not to follow the 'revolutionary' lifestyle or live in the surrounding cities were living situations are much less pleasant. Here they are offered decent residency, at the cost of only segregation. Parahumans from other locations usually escape troublesome circumstances by traveling here, unfortunately most do not gain admission to the city. The population is fairly decent, and the streets are kept clean. The people here range from middle to lower class, and no one is ever too poor to face starvation or homelessness by way of jobs appointed to the smaller city by Atreus' government. Many of the wealthy in Atreus city regard Frebourne as a Slum, and are oft to belittle those who hail from the area. Humans who live here may also face discrimination from Parahumans who have been wronged, although most find the city comfortable enough to dwell in. Using powers on the streets of Frebourne without any viable use is punishable by law, abilities are usually restricted for use only in cases of self-defense or emergency situations, killing someone with your powers is deemed as punishable by death, and will result in a trial and investigation. All in all, Frebourne is safe haven for Parahumans looking to live normal, secure lives, most of the student population in Atreus Academy hails from Frebourne.

Habitat
Habitat is a minuscule city, surrounded by massive fields of vegetation, traversable from Atreus by water or air, Habitat is the only known place on Earth where humans, and Parahumans live together peacefully. They live among the remains of constructs left by humans of the past, and survive by farming and raising animals found in the wilderness surrounding the area. Because the vegetation is so immense, Atreus uses the location as a source of food for its own population, only to have come in contact with the citizens of Habitat within the last 20 years. People here are noted for their peaceful, loving attitudes, slender builds, and their unfamiliarity with technology. Habitat has not been graced by the convenience of futuristic technology for years, although they do own small tight knit organizations who handle responsibilities such as knitting and hunting. The younger population has been invited to attend to the Academy at the slight behest of Habitat's leaders.

Fringe
A small dot of a metropolis compared to Atreus, Fringe is the city of the revolutionary Parahumans, the Parahumans who choose not to mingle with humans and have secluded themselves within the city, isolated from Human governments. What these revolutionaries seek to do is unclear, although the people here seem wearisome of the situation. Having been established for 20 years now, Fringe has fallen from its original purpose, it was set to be a peaceful place for Parahumans to thrive but was quickly turned into a concrete jungle of anarchy controlled by crime lords, while the populace lives in either perpetual poverty, or have some type of wealth by way of crime. Younger residents (30 and younger) are offered the choice of refuge by way of admittance into Frebourne due to its relevant distance from Atreus. A revolutionary group does actually exist but it is definitely not located in the crime ridden streets of Fringe.
~More locations to be added as the plot expands.~

Skills/Talents: (Any skills not directly associated with chosen power(s), this is mainly for regular humans attending the Academy who have prowess in some talent, but can be used with Parahumans as well. Taking place in what is basically an alternate universe 2013, your character lives in a highly developed world, but not too far off from our own civilization. Your character can be either a normal human (with some type of talent in the arts, sciences, athletics, etc...) or a Parahuman with a superpower, this superpower can be anything under the sun as long as it does not go over the Godmodding standard, obviously if you're reading this now I assume you know what I mean.

Harry McGillan

Appearance:

Race: Parahuman
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Sexuality: Bisexual
Birthplace: Freborne
Power: Casimir Force Disruption: As far as anyone has been able to identify, Harry's parahuman abilities create an area around him in which the Casimir effect - the interaction of the electromagnetic fields in different objects - begins to fluctuate on a macro-scale. In a word, this roughly gives him telekinesis, but that would imply a level of fine motor control he simply lacks. It would be more accurate to imagine that he's standing at the centre of an explosion, radiating outwards. Everything seems to fly apart from anything that it was touching beforehand. He's not able to pick anything up or manipulate anything with his abilities, just throw it, repel them. In terms of sheer destructive force, how much damage his outbursts do depend on his emotional state generally. The heaviest thing he's ever been able to deliberating throw so far using this effect has been a full filing cabinet. When he's nice and angry, he's been recorded overturning a smalll car.
Also, because his telekinetic bursts are electromagnetic in origin, electronic devices are disrupted if they are caught in his blast radius, as if they were caught in an EMP or underwent a power surge.
Skills/Talents: Prior to coming to coming to Atreus, Harry was working as an apprentice mechanic in Freborne. He can take a car engine apart and put it pack together virtually blindfolded.

Personality:
Harry is quite an angry young man, prone to brooding and not the most sociable when it comes to humans. He's very rough and ready, not given to delicate behaviour or social niceties. He does his best work with his hands and has a hard time applying himself in conventional academic life as a result not of a lack of natural ability - he's plenty smart - but more a feeling of being looked down upon by the system and therefore looking right back down at it in turn. In some ways it's good that his powers have an emotional element because he's prone to angry outbursts. If he thinks you're an asshole, he won't call you an asshole; he'll just take a swing at you.

Powers 101 would deal in education about powers, but that could be fit into the description, Really it teaches the students how to utilize their powers correctly, and to maximize their effects, all the while teaching them new abilities.

For example:

A Pyrokinetic in Powers 101 would; with a year of training, be able to say make a fireball after being taught by a Powers 101 teacher.
