The Marzai are a fierce people. They are on average a foot or so taller than a human counterpart, and humanoid in shape. Their bodies are thickly muscled and their bones are extremely hard, making a blow from one of the Marzai dangerous to a human and deadly to a Goan. They are admittedly slower than both of their counterpart races, but if their fists make contact, you are in very serious trouble.
Like the Goans, they possess three fingers and a thumb on each hand, but unlike the Goans, their nails are very much pronounced and talon like. On their feet they only have two toes, both taloned but one significantly larger than the other. Their mouths, too, are natural weapons, with very long and sharp canine teeth on both the top and bottom jaw.
Resources are rare on Marzan, making life difficult for the planet’s people, and food is nearly non-existent. As a result, the Marzai have evolved to have green skin, the chloroplasts within their cells allowing them to photosynthesize. They require literally nothing but water to survive, their stomach has become a sort of water holding sack, they no longer have a digestive track, and their bodies actually give off oxygen as a waste product, supplying the atmosphere of the planet. They do still, however, require additional oxygen than what each individual produces to function, and can die of asphyxiation.
Their flesh is also tougher than that of a human or a Goan, and totally hairless. Their eyes are almost always a very dark brown, and any other color is indicative of some very rare human genetics, as reproduction with a Goan is not possible.
Their skulls are more angular than a human or a Goan, and the same sharp features are displayed on their faces, though as with the other races the features of the females tend to be softer. Interestingly enough, however, a Marzai female will generally be a foot or so larger than her male Marzai counterpart, probably accounting for the matrilineal culture that has developed on Marzan.
The Marzai were and still are essentially a warlike people. They are very spread out and live in small, tight-knit nomadic groups based on kin. The larger, more permanent communities are near the mines, where cities and markets made of stone have developed, a result of increasing and strong trade with the Federation and Goa. Mostly though, the people wander, struggling to survive and continuing to be some of the toughest life forms out there.
A council of elders dictates the comings and goings of Goa for the most part, and though they did agree to join the Confederation, it was by a very small majority. Most of the backlash against the Confederacy of Planets comes from the nomadic tribes of Marzan, but no one is sure exactly how to deal with the problem or how to make them happy.
