If I could be a superhero...
Matthew was gasping For breath, a Stitch growing steadily in his side And screaming for a break. After almost stumbling headlong into a tree, he finally Came to an abrupt halt, Gripping the tree in order to stay standing. He had just escaped from the place he had been tortured, Taking along some girl he didn't even know the name of... After a moment, his chocolate brown eyes flickered towards the girl in question, Catching his breath just long enough to say, "Are you okay?" His Hand went up and pushed several strands of black curly hair from his forehead, Not even thinking about it when he then Wiped it on the leg of his pants.
When had freedom ever tasted so sweet?
Meg flopped onto the island, wet, cold, and utterly miserable with herself. How she and her...less then an acquaintance had made it out, she'd never know. Memory of what they did still fresh, she first curled up into a skinny ball of red-hair and turquoise eyes. She simply didn't wish to move for a few seconds, just for a little while...
"Are you okay?" Her companion asked. It broke the torpor the red-head found herself in, and made her pull herself up.
"As...I'll ever be..." she glowed white hot for a few seconds, rushing warmth to her body, then going back to normal. Steam slightly rising off her body, she stood back up, and glanced up at Titans tower. "Well we made it. Now we just go in, though I doubt it's as simple as knocking on the door."
"Sure wish I could do that about now." Matthew murmured wryly, Shivering slightly as a slight breeze danced over his wet skin. But at least he had found out that the girl was alright.
Following her gaze, He nodded his head in agreement and the pair of them made their way toward the tower. After a moment, his voice came back in a nervous whisper. "I'm Matthew, by the way..." But of course, it trailed off again, seeing as his teeth were chattering hard enough to click.
Above in the tower, silent eyes watch the two is they moved around, Keeping track of their Movement and trying to calculate what their purpose in coming there was.
She heard the teeth clickling, recognizing the sound of a chill. She conjured a low-level flame in her hand, as normal as a camp fire, and kept it near him. She bent down, plucking some twigs from the ground. Carefully, she passed the crackling orange flame down, and let it blaze up into a roaring campfire.
"You stay here and warm up," she instructed. "I'll see about getting us inside."
She nodded her head, and stood back up. She left him to warm his skin, and approached the giant T-shaped structure. She stopped about halfway through, realizing that there was likely some kind of defense set up. She took a deep breath, and waved her hands at the door.
"I'd say we come in peace, but I'd think that fairy obvious sine I practically swam here," she shouted. "Any chance we could talk?"
Meanwhile, back at the 'camp', a dark circle formed near the flames. What emerged was first a hood, then two eyes, and finally a cloaked figure, with a curled feminine body and a very stern expression. The figure finally let her feet touch solid ground, and then eyed the boy before her.
"I'm here to see why you're trespassing..." the woman said, voice level. "You don't look threatening, so just explain who you are..."
Matthew nodded gratefully at the fire, Quite abruptly sitting down and holding out his hands. For a moment, he simply enjoyed the wash of heat across his skin, Not worrying about anything at that moment. But then the dark circle had appeared, Spitting out a young woman in the process. He jumped slightly, But made no move to run. He could handle himself if he came to a fight.
He hadn't been expecting questions though. "... I'm Matthew. I ran Away from this sort of laboratory, I guess. I came with a friend for help.."
Quiet as a whisper, a young man traveled down a wire that he had attached to a nearby tree. Stopping near the bottom, he released his hands from the Handles and dropped quietly to the ground. After a moment, he stepped up behind the girl that was shouting and, without letting her know that he was there, finally said "Talk about what?"
The woman quirked a brow, having not heard this kind of story before, nor really being put off by it. She eyed the fire first, then Matthew, before pulling out a yellow titans communicator. This opened the cloak, revealing silvery skin covered in only a black leotard and jeweled belt.
"Their cast-aways," she said bluntly. "Can I go now?"
"No way!" another voice said on the other end. "They could be killer zombies, sent here to eat ou-"
She hung up., turning back to Mathew. "Help with what?"
Meg was surprised by the sudden action, then spying the sudden rope in the sky as her visitor came crashing down in a mess of green, yellow and spiked black hair.
Robin, she recognized. She'd seen him around town numerous times, mainly when some villain was making a problem. She grinned, trying to appear friendly.
"Neat trick," she joked. "Well, mainly we're just looking for a place to stay, though I'd be delighted if I could join." She put her hands behind her back, balancing on her heels. "I'm Meg, by the way."
For a moment, Matthew seemed affronted by the idea that he was some sort of cast-off, Not used to being called anything like that. But he quickly got over it and Focused again on warming up his numb fingers. As he carefully held them Over the flames, he watched the young woman out of the corner of his eye. She was pretty, if a little creepy In her monotones And her color of choice.
It took him a moment before he Remembered that she had actually asked him something and was waiting for his answer.. Clearing his throat slightly, he turned his head to look back at the stranger. "Well, in all of the experiments, we ended up with superpowers.... I don't really know how to control my nyet and I don't know anywhere else I could go to ask for help in Understanding them."His eyebrows lifted slightly And he carefully turned his hands over, Warming up the other side.
Robin Hesitated for a moment as he looked the girl up and down, head tilting slightly. Then he folded his arms across his chest. "And why would I let you do either of those things? This is supposed to be a private headquarters" Obviously, he was feeling slightly sulky That his stunt Hadn't gone exactly as planned.
So a meta-human, fancy that. It reminded her briefly of Beast boy, which wasn't a good idea, but it also reminded her a little of herself. While it wasn't her choice as to who came and joined, they could certainly, at least, give someone a bed to sleep in.
"You'll have to talk to Robin," she said, turning her back on him. "He should be just about done with your friend at the door."
"Private?" Meg tilted a brow over a blue eye, tilting her head to the side. "It's a giant....nah, not important."
Still, she chuckled, and crossed her arms. "well let's see; I'm a citizen of the city asking for help, and as a hero I believe that obligates you to give me a listen," she smirked. "I'm a good fighter, was the top of my martial arts class actually...and...."
She put her hands together, as a yellow flame formed around her finger tips, she balenced it in one hand, tossing it up, and catching it again. "...I have some unusual skills."
