The Elder Scrolls: Return of the Iron King

The Elder Scrolls: Return of the Iron King

Alright then, ladies and gentlemen. I'd like to thank everyone for being so patient with me thus far, I know how everyone feels about people dragging their feet around here, but I try to keep everyone updated and here we are. For this OOC thread, I'll be explaining a pretty key part of this role play along with giving everyone the profile sheet to follow by.

The key part I wanted to discuss was how this role play progresses. It will progress in a series of chapters where the end results will be recorded, such as what occurred during said chapter and who perished along the way. This allows the role play to have periods to breathe as the next setting/chapter is being created. What goes on in these chapters is up to the characters, for they decide their own survival to face off against the Iron King himself.

Now, here's what everyone came for. The profile sheet!

    Profile Sheet

Name: What is your character's name?

Age: How old is your character?

    Race: (Dunmer, Nord, Orc, etc.)

Skills: (Whatever your character might be good with. Fill out with what you deem necessary, they may even be non-combat related)

Magic: (Mage based characters are expected to role play within reasonable boundaries. The more magic you use regardless of how skilled one might be will leave you drained and fatigued.)

Gear: What does your character carry during their journey?

History: A detailed history of your character prior to signing up to the excavation.

We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off." - Fight Club

    Name: Rinn Greywater

    Age: 28

    Race: Male Imperial

    Gear:

-fine steel chainmail armor w/quilted doublet
-fine steel full faced helm w/faceplate
    -fine steel plated leather boots/gauntlets
    -travelers bag containing basic supplies

    Skills:
-Minor restoration magic (only on himself for minor wounds)
    -Sword/shield Training
    -Polearm training
    -tactics/strategy training

History: Entering into the millitary at the age of 15 with a forged document stating he was 17. Rinn was the runt of the new recruits. Often getting picked on and bullied into doing others work for them. He figured that more hard work and training can only make him stronger, faster, and overall better. Easily taking on any odd job that the others threw at him as time passed by.

Getting noticed at his hard work and dedication, one of the dukes sons asked if Rinn could be his personal bodyguard during a hunting trip that the son planned. Obviously accepting his offer, they issued him shiny new gear and a pay raise as incentive to be loyal. Rinn did not need incentives, he was as loyal as a dog out of his own free will, and it showed when a group of Orc bandits raided their hunting party, attempting to kidnap the dukes son. Rinn bravely fought them off along with the rest of the guards, but Rinn stayed right next to the duke the entire time. Using his Halberd to strike down any who dare to get close and using his very own body as a shield against arrows.

After the fight was over, Rinn was beaten and bloodied over every inch of his body, but he stood on his own two feet the entire march back. The Dukes son was very impressed with him and ordered to seek audience with the Duke himself as a permanent soldier of the Royal Guard. Gaining special training and a large raise in gold coins as well as respect.

One day, the Duke asked a favor of his loyal servant. Presenting him with a Writ issued only those to be forcibly Retired from duty early. The Duke asked for him to be of assistance to a small matter in which he cannot be officially connected to in any way. Confused at the request, he loyally abliged his Lord and grabbed his gear.

Other: he stands about 5'11" 195lbs. (200+ with armor on) and he never takes his helmet off despite how heavy his armor looks, he is quite agile in it. The only actual hard parts being his head, arms, and feet. He often carries his buckler on a strap on his back, protecting his upper back from stabs or arrows while the buckler being small enough to still retain full movement.

A glorious profile written by Jack Rinner, bravo! And congratulations for being the first to post as well. Your snip at the end about the Duke pushing him off to some assignment was clever and it gives me an idea.

    Name: Karn gro-Morrowind

    Age: 34

    Race: Orc

    Skills:
    Weapon and Armor Smithing
    Two-Handed Weapon Combat Training
    Heavy Armor Combat Training
    Sneaking, surprisingly enough

    Gear:
Armor: Full set of Orc-Style Armor, worn and repaired multiple times. Still sturdy.
Weapons: A Warhammer he forged, and enchanted with Soul Trap. He calls it "Forge-Master Maul" Also hides a dagger on his person for emergency or whenever he needs to cut something.
Misc: Has a leather sack with some food, and attached to his armor is a metal locked box that contains Soul Gems of different sizes. Carries a hammer and tongs he uses for Forging and Blacksmithing, strictly for those purposes only.
History: Karn was born in the providence of Morrowind; his parents unknown, and his birth most likely unintended. He was simply left in the wilds, an unfortunate tragedy for anyone who may find his body. But before the element or nature could take his life, the little orc still had some fight in him to live. As a baby, Karn crawled his way to the nearest settlement, only to be found on the road by a traveling black smith. At first he wasn't sure what to think of the little green-skin; it wasn't his baby. But the Blacksmith could not simply abandon the Orc to his death. So the blacksmith took in Karn, and tried to find his family. When it became apparent that Karn had no family, the Black smith hesitantly decided to take in the babe. He raised Karn, gave him a name, but made it apparent that he was not Karn's biological father. But even then, Karn and the Blacksmith grew up like father and son. Karn learned his father's craft, and showed an amazing talent at blacksmithing. However, Karn did not pick up weapon smithing until he was older. Until then, he was like many youths; troublemakers. Karn was prone to poaching wild-life, stalking his prey before emerging from the darkness and beating them with whatever weapon he could find that day. Typically it's nothing more elaborate then an uprooted tree with a rock strapped to the end, but as soon as Karn developed his blacksmithing, he started to make efficient weapons and armor.

By the time Karn was 18 years of age, his father was starting to suffer from an illness. Karn wanted to get him cured, but his father new his time was coming near an end. The blacksmith never had a true heir, but he was more then content to leave what he had to Karn. when the day came that the old Blacksmith succumbed to his disease, Karn carved out a tomb in the mountains, and laid the body of his father in it. The Imperials took the forge Karn lived in, but he still kept some of his crafts, as well as a book on Blacksmithing his father left for him. From this book, Karn learned and master his craft. But without a forge, money was hard to come by. By the time Karn was twenty-two, he had to pause his training as a blacksmith and work as a hired mercenary. It was then that Karn developed his affinity for battle; he crafted his own armor and hammer, participating in many battles. He made a small name for himself as the "Forge Master", due to his ability to craft rather impressive weapons for his fellow soldiers.

Despite his success in battle, however, Karn still lacked the fund to open up his own forge. His crafting, while impressive, was not like those of true Master Blacksmiths, and the only found work as hired muscle or part of a crew of blacksmith to mass produce products from pots and pans, to gears and boats. Work was meaningless and boring; at least as a mercenary, there was a chance of combat. Upon hearing about an expedition that required some guards, however, Karn left his job as a simple craftman, donned his armor and weapons, and signed himself up without really questioning what he was about to get himself into.

Soo... karn isn't a master blacksmith, he just calls himself one. Granted he's naturally very good, but no master right?

Of course. It's kind of like how a highschooler can play Cannon on the guitar and everyone praises that he's some sort of musical savant, but when he tries to audition for an actually spot on a band, he's, at best, decent enough to provide additional music but not the lead. Kind of like that.

Sure, with practice and guidance, Karn could make some sort of legendary weapon, but he'd first have to find someone willing to help him, since he lacks the ability to do anything sufficiently amazing on his own. If I may also add, however, Karn is also known as the Forge Master for his ability to dole out a multitude of weapons from limited materials and in a short time; he can make a decent great-sword of steel within half an hour, and could provide arms and armor (Helmet, chest-plate, gauntlets, boots, sword, shield) for an entire army (Let's say about 1000 human soldiers) within a week using whatever he's given or finds. Sure, they won't be top quality, but they will be good enough for their purpose; battle. He's something of a quantity=over-quality guy; he makes weapons for armies, not heroes. While he may never make his own legendary weapon or replicate other legendary weapons, if given the right amount of time, help, and resources, he could make something that could be mistaken as the original, and he'll make two of them.

Corollary: Karn never gave himself the title of Forge-Master. It was given to him by his fellow soldiers, due to his ability to arm them quickly and his skill with his hammer. Even his current weapon wasn't named by him; one of his fellow mercenaries was a Enchanter and gave it it's Soul Trapping properties after Karn made him some weapons. It has become his title to those who wish to hire outstanding mercenaries, though he usually joins a company. You see, this excavation is the only time he ever actually hired himself out; usually he joins a mercenary group or band who is then hired by lords or some such. He gets paid enough to stick around, gaining more wealth by spoils of war (I.e. looting). He's not so haughty that he thinks that he's worth being hired out as some sort of legendary warrior, though he allows his reputation to speak for him if it's convenient. Otherwise he's just another Orc fighter who happens to as good at Blacksmithing as he is fighting.

I like it and I see no problem with it. Maybe you should editthat addon speech into your background? It would certsinly flesh out your character more its kinda funny too since orcish blacksmiths often think Quality>quantity lol

In the perfect world, Karn would like nothing more then to spend weeks-on-end perfecting the design and creation of even a simple dagger. But alas, no one is willing to simply give him metal to work with, he's not allowed to take it from mines (there was a law against that in Morrowind), and he has to compete with other blacksmiths for the favor of possible suppliers. It's like the example I made about the highschool guitar player; they think they're the top of the world, but in truth, there are plenty of others with the same amount of skill. Karn has accepted this, but still dreams to one day become worthy of the title Forge-Master. Until then, he works the dead-end job of risking his life fighting on the behalf of others for reasons that isn't necessarily important to him. Occasionally, he might get to do what he likes, but not the way he likes to do it. I.e. kind of what I do in real life, but much less exciting.
