We are the creatures of the night, feeding and feasting upon humanities fear and flesh. We shroud ourselves in shadows, cloak ourselves in silence and grin gleefully as we dance about the corpses or our enemies. We are ghouls, goblins, witches and wizards, vampires and demons who stalk about the unknown crevices that haunt the soft minds of peasants. We huddle around out cauldrons, our coffins, our caves, straining and steaming and swearing vengeance as night gives way to day and we retreat away, fearful of what we can't hide in so bright a light that it would incinerate us before we could dash to safety. For shadows must retreat from light, shrink from that which always shines eternally, every morning at dawn, until time itself doth end.
But what if we could snuff out such a light? We, the denizens of darkness, rule while we can, but what if we could have more? Ancient tales now swirl about like a dust twister, stinging the eyes of those who look to closely and eluding a truly discerning mind. These whispers, rumors, and echoes from days long past tell in hushed tones of a massive entity, poised to usurp the mantle from the sky itself, but sealed away before his powers could reach their pinnacle and grant that which we all wish for; Eternal Night. I say we grin and grasp our daggers, chant and dance wistfully in the graveyards under a moonless night and carve our fates into the stars themselves. Let us search for tomes and scrolls from eons ago and try to raise this ancient power to usher in our time, our place upon all the earth. Let humanity and more tremble as the night settles in, let them curl up under their covers and blot out as much of the world and it's poison as they wish. We, in our Macabre Waltz, know where to step in the darkness, our feet fleeting and sure, but noiseless as the dead.
