I was looking at it a few days ago, although was wondering whether or not to get it.
I shall take this as a recommendation.
I've already played 60 hours, I've had it a week. It is awesome, amazing. I got trinity and am tempted to get Rebellion already, but I'll probably wait a few weeks. The base games are fantastic, but the mod support is what makes it shine. The developers completely support them. They host mods on the official game website and offer free downloads of GalaxyForge and ParticleForge their dev programmes used to make maps and effects respectively. They do their best to allow modding and even take ideas from mods and use them in future iterations. Star wars? Got you sorted. Stargate? Done. Battlestar Gallactica? Sure. Mass effect? Not yet but the mod is looking impressive so far. Then there are dozens of original mods. My favourite is Maelstrom.
So, there are my thought. What do you all think? Do you play? Mods no mods? Etc etc

So, there's Trinity and Rebellion.
Trinity's the main game along with the first two expansion packs and Rebellion's the third expansion, correct? Just double checking, otherwise I'll probably get something horribly wrong if I do try and get it.
Exactly! I would recommend Rebellion because it's and 'expandalone'. Then again, you really do need a solid foundation in the base games. It would be best to get to a stage of winning in vanilla sins, then entrenchment, the diplomacy(trinity) then Rebellion. They're both on sale on steam so if that's how you're buying it then I strongly suggest both.
If you're not on steam or don't want to spend that much right now, get trinity, start and vanilla and go up anyway, there just won't be Rebellion
You could get it after![]()
Entrenchment adds defensive options and splits the military tree in two.
Diplomacy does what it says on the tin and adds a new diplomacy tech tree.
Rebellion is a graphics overhaul, splits the three races each in two, making six, and adds a two new class of ship. Far more extensive than the others.

Steam'll do me nicely. I've been breaking it in lately. Knowing me though I'll throw myself in head first and just buy the lot in one big go. I find it much easier to just buy the whole lot and not have to bother coming back to it. Especially likely considering it's all on sale and I'm not sure how much longer that'll last for. It might make it more difficult for me to settle into the game, granted, but I'm used to that. I'll get used to it quick enough, I hope.
I'll probably end up ditching everything combat related and smooth talk my way through the game. x) Much easier than shooting things.
Fair eboughgo ahead and purchase trinity and rebellion, play trinity through and then rebellion.
You can't get actual diplomatic victories until diplomacy and rebellion. Rebellion adds more win conditions. You will have to shoot some things, such as militia fleets that guard uncolonized planets.
For example, if you play a three way game, and sign a peace treaty with player A, if player B is defeated you'll win.

Bought it, Still watiing for my new comp. Hear its everything i need for my sci-fi fix.
made by the ever charming and talented Lillian Thorne.
I've had it for a while. It's a great game, but I eventually got tired of the bots and didn't want to get pooned in PvP. I never have the time to sit through a whole game in one session anyway. Might start up again if you people are interested in playing.
The Star Wars mod you mentioned is pretty great, but not giving the Empire the Death Star for their superweapon kind of made me scratch my head a little.
I'm pretty sure it's the starbase for the empire on at least one of the mods. There's two major SW ones.
And sure, I'd love to get an RPG match going

It is. And more.
Maelstrom is awesome, three additional races and about 20 new planet types and plenty new star types.
