    An Unkindness of Ravens (OOC)

    An Unkindness of Ravens

    The Story So Far....

It was early in the 20th century when a group of immigrants stepped off a boat from China and into the great yonder of San Francisco. These were not ordinary men; they were all ex Chinese military and along with their families, they hoped to make a life in America. However, life did not initially come easy to them. The families were met by racism, hate and violence. It went too far when one of their own was killed. After that, they decided that enough was enough and that if America was not willing to give them the lives they thought they deserved, then they would simply take them. And thus began the birth of The Ravenglass Boys, named because of the symbol they had chosen as their mascot. The Ravenglass Boys influence spread quickly and within a decade they had become the most powerful criminal organisation in San Francisco with their influence reaching as far as the blossoming town of LA. They became legends

Nearly one hundred years later and the original Ravenglass Boys are exactly that, legends. They live only in the stories passed down to generations and through their only surviving member. The ninety nine year old Siu Long Wu, who was but a baby when the originals made their way across the ocean, sits at the apex of the triad as “The Dragon Head”. Universally known as Grandpa Wu, the chairman cuts a frail figure and he longs for the days that have already past. A time where business was based on respect and not violence and rage. He +knows the end is coming for him and that his younger family members will need to take over. Too many gangs are popping up and San Francisco is going to hell. The thing is, Grandpa isn’t ready to go just yet. You know what they say, an old tiger is at its fiercest when facing its end…

    The Plot

This rpg is pretty simple, we’d play as members of the criminal organization known as the Ravenglass Boys (there are female members by the way) as they struggle to train the power they’ve held for nearly a century. However more so than an overall arching storyline, we will focus on character development and creating a realistic world where these characters live.

    The Setting

The inititial setting is going to be modern day San Francisco but as time goes on and we flesh out the story then more places will become a part of everything.

    The Hierarchy

The Dragonhead: A position currently held by Grandpa Wu. They are the Chairman of the faction.
Deputy Mountain Master: Acts as the Chairman's proxy. An underboss that generally relays orders to the higher ups.
Incense Master: Generally oversees inductions into the group and acts as further coucil for the Dragonhead
Vanguard: A general of his own group, he commands his soldiers and follows the orders passed by his superiors.
Red Pole: The most common of members, these are the soldiers and enforcers of the triad.
Blue Lantern: Associates of the group who are not official members.
White Paper Fan: Legal and financial council for not just the Dragonhead but all members of the group.
Straw Sandal: A liason officer who generally acts as a go between for the many internal factions
25: A term used to desribe undercover police officers

    The Heartless Half Breed
    Name:
    Richard “Rick” Wei Liu

    Nickname:
    Heartless

    Age:
    27

    Appearance:
It’s been said that Rick is dangerously beautiful and this is nothing but truth. He looks like a movie star and dresses like one. Finely pressed business suits are a must and his most casual dress days are when you see him in a pair of jeans and an dark t-shirt (this is rare). Beneath his quality clothes, Rick’s body is adorned with varying traditional tattoos which he hides to keep up his appearance as a legitimate businessman. These include:
    - A single raven is stamped on his left pectoral
    - On his back are two Chinese dragons that stretch up from his lower back, across his shoulder-blades and down to both of his deltoids where their heads rest
    - A Vermillion bird wraps around his left torso

    Position in Triad:
    Red Pole

    Occupation:
    Nightclub Owner

    Personality:
When people talk of Rick Liu, they talk about two things. His looks and his temper. Behind his charming smile beats the heart of a killer. More than once, Rick has been described as an animal. Ever since he was a child, he has had anger management issues. Rick possesses an extremely short fuse and if you make him mad then he will stop at nothing until he has destroyed you. Utterly ruthless and vicious, Rick has no qualms with making your death long and painful; in fact he much prefers dragging out a killing rather than quickly snuffing out a life. Despite the joy he takes in killing, Rick is all about business and can be just as cold and efficient as he can be aggressive and bloodthirsty. He has no regard for a human life and will do anything to anyone to get his desired result. This attitude has led many to give him the nickname “Heartless”.

On the flip side of his rage, Rick is an intellectual. Extremely intelligent and calculating, he knows how to do business with his enemies and friends alike. He is wary of the hierarchy and shows respect to those above him but that does not mean he is beyond doing something behind their back if it means getting ahead. He is charming, charismatic and comes across as somewhat playful. Rick is well spoken and refrains from using foul language but does swear on a rare occasion. Deep down he is somewhat lonely but does not feel he deserves companionship and as such, does not seek it out, as least in the long term sense.

    Skill Set:
Rick’s premier skill is his combat ability. He is an excellent fighter and has been trained in Jeet Kune Do since he was but a child. He is physically fit, with a slim and muscled physique. Rick is quick with firearms and is a good marksman. He has a great mind for business and has amassed a small fortune over the past few years through legitimate business dealings. Rick is quite the musician and often performs in his club.

    History:
Richard Wei Liu was born on the 16th of July 1985 to Peggy Liu, a Chinese American woman. His father, a Korean-American man named John Choi, had died a few months before his birth, committing suicide after a long bout with depression. Rick and his mother lived in Chinatown where she worked as a hairdresser. For the early parts of his childhood, Rick spent his time with his neighbors as his mother was always working. He was bullied for years for reasons he didn’t understand until he was older. Kids bullied him simply because he was mixed, because he had a Korean father. These things began to make Rick feel very alone, a feeling that has followed him from childhood, all the way into adulthood. Entering into his teens, Rick’s pent up frustrations began to manifest themselves in violence. He became very aggressive and was often in trouble at school and at home. It eventually came to the point where his mother sent him to a psychiatrist to try and find the route of all of his problems. It was found during these sessions that Rick had IED (Intermittent Explosive Disorder). An impulse control disorder which causes intense feelings of anger and rage which a disproportionate for the situation at hand. To combat this, Rick was given various medicines and was given the chance to play on the school football team as a way of channeling his energies.

During high school, Rick began doing odd jobs for the Ravenglass Boys as a way to help his mother who was struggling. Through these jobs, he caught the attention of a higher up named Kenny Long. Kenny noticed an innate talent in the young man and took him under his wing. Upon graduation from high school, Rick had become a continuing prospect for the Ravenglass Boys. He committed his first kill when he was eighteen when he beat Kenny Long’s teenage daughter to death with his own hands after an episode of IED. Before Kenny could seek any retribution, he was killed by a rival gang and the matter was forgotten by the organization. Grandpa Wu, who was under increasing police pressure, wanted a rat in the department and so opted to send the relatively unknown Rick; to the police academy in hopes he could feed them information from the inside. This didn’t last long however as within a few months, Rick was kicked out of the academy for throwing an instructor through a window. After leaving the police academy, he became a full time soldier for the Ravenglass Boys. Eventually he was made a Red Pole after performing a hit on a rogue police officer that was blackmailing Grandpa Wu. However due to the high profile slaying, Rick was forced to leave San Francisco for a while until the heat was off.

Heading first to Hawaii for some R&R, Rick was then shortly sent to varying other cities to build connections with their resident families, including New York where he made dealings with the Italian Castaletta’s, Baltimore where he teamed up with the Polish Kowalski’s and in Boston it was the Irish Greene’s. Once finished, he headed finally to Shanghai where he began working for a triad compatriot of Grandpa Wu, whilst subtly building his own fortune. Eventually after two years, Rick returned to San Francisco and is now intent on picking up where he left off…

    Other:
    - Rick’s only regret in life is the murder of Vivienne Long
    - His favorite type of music is the blues
    - His mother disowned him when she found out he was working for Grandpa Wu

(Last Known Picture of Siu Long Wu)
    The Chairman of the Board
    Name:
    Siu Long Wu

    Nickname:
    - Grandpa
    - The Chairman

    Age:
    99

    Appearance:
Not many people have seen Siu Long Wu in the last ten years, so many don’t even know what he looks like. Now a frail old man, he is very much a recluse but in the few times he is seen in public, Grandpa is very much dressed like you would expect for a man of his advanced years. Unlike is myriad of followers, he does not have any tattoo’s and thinks them disgusting.

    Position:
    The Dragonhead

    Occupation:
    Philanthropist

    Personality:
Although it is believed that Wu started in the Ravenglass Boys with a violent history, since becoming Chairman, Wu develops a benign and grandfatherly image (hence the nickname). He commits money and time to charities and is well known as a benefactor in the neighborhoods that the Ravenglass Boys control. Overall he is a reasonable businessman, negotiator, philosopher, peacekeeper and working as the brains of the triad. Wu is a moral and idealistic man evident by his appreciation of the values of family, tradition, loyalty and honor. Despite his soft demeanor, Wu is not to be underestimated; he uses violence and murder when necessary and remains greatly feared and respected.

    Skill Set:
In his younger years, Wu was a formidable combatant and was known for his extreme violence against his enemies. As he has grown older, obviously his physical powers have diminished but his mind has grown much sharper. A strategic and tactical thinker, Wu looks at everything around him like it was a game of chess. All the pieces matter and he knows exactly how to play them.

    History:
Siu Long Wu was born on the boat over from Hong Kong in the February of 1913. Like many families, his settled in Chinatown. His mother took care of him and his three sisters whilst his father went out to find work. Eventually his father and his father’s friends started up the Ravenglass Boys as a way to get back at the white man for holding them down. As Siu grew, as did his pride for his father and when he came of age, he joined the ranks of the triad. Siu moved up fast, not simply because of family connections but due to his vast intelligence and willingness to do anything that was necessary. He was made a Red Pole at the relatively young age of twenty and then eventually moved up to become a Vanguard. He held this position for years up until 1981 when he was made Deputy Mountain Master. Eventually in 1987, Siu became the Dragonhead and began to change the Ravenglass Boys from a bunch of thugs, into intelligent and somewhat legitimate businessmen. Entering into the 21st century, Wu began to realize that his breed was dead and that the new generation had a bloodlust like none before it could ever dream of. However, Grandpa isn’t willing to give up his seat, not yet. There is still much work to be done…

    Other:
    - Wu married when he was twenty five but his wife died during the birth of their only child
    - He disowned his daughter for falling in love with a whitey.
    - Wu still has a bullet lodged in his right leg from the gang war of 1967

    Name:
    Jim San Fu

    Nickname:
    -Fu-man
    -Jimmy(few dare call him this)
    -Generally known as Mr. Fu

    Age:
    34

    Appearance:
Tall, handsome, with a knack for good first impressions, and a very intuitive mind. If you only met him once or twice, or never seen him in action, or reacting to something with anger, you would wonder what this pleasant man is doing in a Triad organization. However, exposure to him in any of the aforementioned events, and a few others, would quickly show why. He has a tattoo of Medusa on his back, along with some scars along his legs, arms, and torso. His face is amazingly untouched, however, and his eyes have a very odd far off look when you can see them.

    Position in Triad:
    Vanguard

    Occupation:
Officially a security consultant for a front company Owned by grandfather Wu.

    Personality:
On the surface, a very pleasant character, with an easy, suave, even witty personality. He can crack jokes, capable of making any person feel comfortable in his presence. Except, of course, the ones that know what he is capable of. Diagnosed with psychopathy, with hints of sociopathy, he is known for being quite terrifying when he wants to be, with a calm collected exterior, his eyes the only true vision of what he was. Loyalty is one of the man's few redeeming qualities, meaning that if he took money for something, nothing, save death itself would keep him from fulfilling that role. He is comparatively low-born, and while not treated as such, he is paranoid, and feels like he is being talked down to at all times when it comes to business, and is therefore very confrontational, in that cold, slick manner that he takes after.

When it comes to stuff that he is good at,, he is very patient, very rarely, if ever, allowing emotion to take over for him. He treats his life in a very irritating 'it's only business' attitude, something that, while greatly appreciated in his line of work, ends up putting up a barrier between him and everyone else, making him something of a cold, calculating machine. People keep him around because he is needed, and good at what he does, but not for love or loyalty to him. A person in power feeling threatened by him is not out of the question, although he deals with betrayal in a very gruesome and vicious manner. It is, after all, all business.

    Skill Set:
    -Weaponry
    -CQC
    -Tactics(broad spectrum, police, the works)
    -Intimidation
    -Torture

    History: (At least two paragraphs)
Born in L.A., to a family of Chinese Immigrants. Not very well off, and with five children to feed, the life that they led was, while durable, not the high road at all. The parents worked extremely hard, and required that the older children work as well, either taking care of the house, the younger siblings, or, in Jim's case, as he was the oldest, actually getting a job. But he was an ambitious young man, and saw very quickly that remaining in this side of life would get him nowhere, fast. So, as soon as he was able, he ran away from home, leaving his parents a letter to explain why he left. They would understand. If they didn't there wasn't much they could do anyway. They would just get the next oldest a job, and things would be peachy.

He moved from dingy job to dingy job for a while scraping together a living, barely subsisting in the lower dregs of society. As a couple years passed, and he started to have second thoughts about leaving, he saw the armed Forces to be a way out. He joined, and, with the skills(not the nice set) that he earned on the streets, he caught the eye of a particular gentleman in a grey suit. Next thing he knew, he was in a new training camp, with men of equally rough, or rougher, backgrounds. They were being trained to be a specialized force, working officially as a liaison to the DEA, but really taking orders, and intel, from the CIA. They were set to work to fight drugs at the source. They were sent all over the world, centering their efforts in South and Central America, and Southeastern Asia.

Unlike the other squads put together for similar purposes, this team, called the Medusa Squad, was sent in when delicate jobs were needed, especially ones that needed some things that were against hundreds of Human Rights laws to be done quietly and effectively. They were also paid extraordinarily well, to ensure their loyalty. Despite that, Medusa had a record high in MIAs and KIAs, as well as topping out in successful missions. On one such mission, Jim was very near to an explosion, leaving him relatively intact, but requiring a plastic surgery on his face, and that left him with very weak eyes.

However, Medusa got leaked to the press, an enormous scandal being raised as to the hundreds of international laws broken by the team. The survivors, less than 10% of the original Medusa team members, were quietly stowed away back into society to keep them from being torn to pieces by the forces of Law and Order. Jim returned to his own home, finding his family deep in debt with the Triads. He negotiated with them, paying off his family's debt with the money earned to him during his long years working for the government, and, as his skill set became clear, h was offered a position in Grandfather Wu's establishment. He agreed, working his way slowly, patiently, and sometimes even viciously up to the top, standing as Vanguard now. His family was killed in retribution for something that he had done, and he was noted for having a very limited emotional response to the news, even though the men reported as to having done it were found, their bodies mutilated horribly.

    All business.

Recently, however, he finds himself being rather attracted to Wu's 'goddaughter', although, he ignores it as best he can, trying not to look her way when she enters the room, and other such indicators. He shrugs it off, refusing to be drawn into feeling anything, due to the obvious fact that she has seen the nasty shit that he can produce.

    Other:

His eyes are weak in bright lights, although they can see exceptionally well in the dark. His hearing is slightly impaired, however. The glasses that he wears grow dark in bright light, but go back to regular prescription glasses when he is in dark places.

It is for people like me that, on the eighth day, God said," Let there be firearms."

And God saith unto him,"And here is my Eleventh commandment: Thou shalt not get caught."

To those that dare take me too seriously, I say," I am the living proof that God hath a sense of humor!"

    The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

    Name:
    Trang Nguyen

    Nickname:
    Angel

    Age:
    23

    Appearance:
Trang stands 5'5, 120lbs of curves and muscles, her body strong, albeit lithe as she's trained in martial arts for agility and flexibility as well as kickboxing for strength. Her long midnight hair hits the top of her firm curves and is silk to the touch. Her dark grey eyes are contemplative and yet quick to assess most situations and judge to prematurely at times. She has a long thin scar that runs from just below her left shoulder blade to the back of her hip from a knife fight that didn't go so well. She has several tattoos on her body, including small doves that run up the side of her scar on her back, the word freedom across her pelvis, hidden from most unless she's nude and honor written in a rolling design on her left wrist. All of her tats are in black.

    Position in Triad:
    Deputy Mountain Master

    Occupation:
    Psychologist

    Personality:
Trang lives two lives and as such, her personality follows suit depending on which world she's living in at present. At heart, she is a intellect, her mind moving through every possible situation and scenario before making decisions. She is quite cold and calculating, not very welcoming of affection of any sort. Her childhood put her in the position of having to grow up quickly, which left her very stanch and unwilling to bend to much in terms of compromise. She cares for Wu as he is the closet thing she has to a living relative, but even that realtionship is held at arms-length by her.

She's very demanding and not willing to put up with instability of character from others. She's a leader amongst her people and uses her lack of care and feeling to push people in the direction that best suits the Triad first and them second. She is very loyal and respectful of those above her, around her and below her. She leads by example and tries to use actions vs words in all that she does. She is emotionally strong and uses her occupation as a grounding tool for herself as she moves through her tasks for the Triad, internally analyzing everything she does herself to ensure she remained a rock for the family.

    Skill Set:
Trang is a brilliant negotiator because of her ability to read people so quickly. She is quite intimidating in her dealings with Wu's associates, customers and others, her size fooling people just long enough for her to correct their errors in misjudgement. She is much stronger than she looks and quite agile in her ability to use her opponents weigh against them. Because of her beauty and size, she is able to move in and out of places of interest at ease and has mastered the skill of altering her appearance to look older, younger and/or like a male. She is a master of disguises when necessary.

    History:
Trang grew up in the heart of the city, her grandfather good friends with Mr. Wu and her father growing up under his wing. As she began to mature as the only offspring of the infamous "Wahxman", Wu took her under his wing, bringing her up and having her trained to take her father's spot when it was discovered that he was less than becoming with his income, cheating Wu out of small fortune.

Trang had already pledged her loyalty to Wu and when the time came, he sent her to kill her own father, her mother having died a few years before. She'd become a machine for the Triad by that time and having her intentions set high, she murdered her old man in cold blood, sitting there for hours and hours after his death, starting at him and singing softly to him as her mind tried to process her action.

She returned to Wu with proof of her hit and he welcomed her further into the Triad, lifting her in rank because of her willingness and sacrifice for the family. He assisted her in finishing her Phd more efficiently than she could've on her own and she set up shop as a psychiatrist, working a few days a week to maintain the image, though she rather enjoyed her patience and gleamed exponentially the skills necessary to help the Triad in business deals and decisions.

    Other:
Trang has the voice of a vixen when she speaks and the sound of an angel when she sings. She loves jogging when it's cold outside and has always dreamt of singing for large crowds, leaving this life of crime and being something petite and beautiful, but she keeps that tucked in tightly.
