So, yeah - was fucking around with peepz, this is what i can make when i'm not in the mood but applying myself, it's like 2 hours in length to make. Made a bunch of rookie mistakes. Overall I'm glad however, because while this level of art i'm producing is "eh nearly there" quality to me, it far exceeds my "eh nearly there" quality from 3 months ago. I've definitely made improvements since, and no doubt will excel as long as I - y'know - get srs bsns with it.
The method of the peice was your usual polygon face masking. Y'know, in which you draw it as shape,s and then sculpt it until you've got a good amount of plains to find your medium values for each one and give it some shape. Sadly the shape was taking away from it by various ambience problems, a flat background to sit in, lighting problems, and generally not blending the piece in with good highlight and lowlighting, and other value gradiant problems. But hey at least I can recognize my problems! Just need to figure out ways to fix it.
I also used a good newb-tastic trick (I use sai by the way) in which you start on monotone (or greyscale) values, and then use an overlay to add in colour composition. It helps divides the task and let you gain skill on both separately before taking the leap to start doing them simultaneously. Which i've noticed doesn't have many repercussions as you find yourself slowly blending the two together for sake of time and energy the more you get comfortable with your knowledge and understanding of it all.
The content of the peice is that it was my friends birthday like last month, and I figured I needed to make her something. So I came up with this funny little quip (and recently realized that's a good motivator for me), and figured i'd make it. The quip is the wordplay on alot, which was created and can be explained by this lovely little
blog here! I figured I wouldn't name the piece, the painting kinda speaks for itself. c:
