Ghosts are real. Most can't see them. People who die unfulfilled or uncertain can spend centuries in a half life before they pass on. Most do eventually, but not all, maybe they believe this is the end, or maybe they just can't accept death, some of them enjoy it. The years change them, appearing as they did in life seems to be a choice or perhaps a psychological barrier and while they have the capability to possess bodies, move objects and so much more this is similarly limited.

Mediums are those, blessed or cursed, who can see and sense ghosts. It tends to emerge in childhood with a near death experience or a death of a close relative. It can give enormous advantage or destroy a person entirely. Mediums often avoid cities for being almost as populated with the dead as with the living but the march of progress draws them increasingly towards them.

San Francisco is perhaps as haunted as the old world cities of Paris or Rome. The quake that hit in 1906 was among the worst disasters in the countries history, it killed more than 3000 first while they slept and later in the fires. More than half the city was destroyed and the rest was rebuilt on the ruins. Fifty years earlier droves of Chinese immigrants had come for empty promises of gold they lived and dyed in the disease and poverty of America's first Chinatown. The Letterman army hospital treated the combatants in all the wars of the twentieth century. The Golden Gate bridge has more suicides than any other site in the world. Thousands of ghosts make the pilgrimage to the AIDS memorial grove before they pass on. And no medium in their right mind goes near Alcatraz.

1. Be respectful to all the others players OOC. A bit of antagonism IC is encouraged though.
2. Try to post regularly, I might set a rate later based on how fast we go but for now it's post about as frequently as others do. And tell us if you're unable to post.
3. All posts should be readable and meet the advanced posting standards. Look them up they're not as daunting as they're often made out to be.
4. All PCs should be mediums and while they don't have to be flawed don't make them OP.
5. No graphics, quotes in the IC without prior approval.
6. God Modding is out of course. I will state the degree to which you can control NPCs in their sections but controlling other PCs is out.
7. Dominating the IC thread by double posting or to much back and forth is out. Either take it collab or let someone post inbetween for back and forth.
8. What I say goes. It sounds tyrannical but even if it's not used this has to be there just in case. All RPs have this rule anyway, GMs just don't always post it.

Age: 47

Appearance: The years have been good to Lance but he hasn't always been good to himself. His face is barely lined and he still sports a full head of hair which turned a rich, almost elegant white which he makes no attempt to hide seeing it as more seemly than grey. He has an expansive gut at odds with the still strong muscles lurking under the surface of his flabby arms and legs. His face and neck too are thick and ruddy but there is not a single shadow under his hazel eyes.

Personality: Being one of the more knowledgeable and older mediums he is somewhat of a father figure to the others in his home city. He considers his gift a blessing and his blessing a duty towards those living and dead. Has a rather wry sense of humour and is prone to explaining things in metaphors considering them to be truer than truths.

History: Born and raised in San Francisco he would never dream of leaving the city he loves and posseses a unique position amongst mediums. He fell ill with a fever at the age of five developing his gift but found he was not alone in his family. His grandmother had been a medium from childhood also and taught him from a life time of experience how to cope with it.

If San Francisco is the new Paris then Lance is a new Parisian growing up with two great loves. Love and cookery. As a young man he pursued many women and worked as a chef in a top restaurant. Once tamed to marriage his tastes in cookery became more practical around his home atleast. His wife passed away of cancer before her time but only stayed a week for him, content in where she was going herself.

After this he quit his job as a chef, enjoying food still but more eating than cooking. He still had an eye for the ladies too but despite his ample charm stayed chaste for his wife. He went back to school and trained himself in therapy to help people pass on eventually also taking a few clients to fund himself. He as lived happily enough like this for over ten years.

Ghosts & NPCs

Appearance:

Lifespan: 1819-1880
Location: It is easiest to find him on the bay bridge or tunnel that he envisioned first, he can go most places in the city.
Personality: Regarded as an eccentric in life Norton is not crazy but deeply disenchanted with the world. He is prone to spells of depression and cynicism but will often be proactive in putting the world to rights. In death his title holds more sway in his home city than ever, he is regarded as a fair and trustworthy leader by many ghosts.

Appearance:

Lifespan: 1814-1904
Location: Many places, often at once. Can most easily be contacted in the cities cemeteries.
Personality: In life a famous abolitionist she has embraced her love of theatricality in death using rumours of Voodoo knowledge gathered in New Orleans to inspire fear and obedience. She commonly shifts her form to the fears of those seeing her. She seems to have a fondness for gaining dominion over graveyards and corpses then trading the bodies to the freshly dead in return for favours or knowledge.

Appearance:

Lifespan: 1899-1947
Location: Alcatraz shower room, he is incapable of leaving the island and the room itself is besieged by the islands ghosts.
Personality: Most of the ghosts of Alcatraz, enraged by their imprisonment became practically one malevolent being upon death. Why Al Capone remains seperate is not known, perhaps it is his egotism or maybe the fact that in life many where his enemies. So he remains confined to a single room but with an intimate knowledge of the city in spite of this.

Appearance: A cloud of thik black smoke 8 feet tall and billowing back far enough to fill entire alleyways. Appears to have two red eyes which on close inspection are his symbol.

Lifespan: Unknown, recently passed on.
Location: Any of the more isolated parts of the city.
Personality: Evil is an adaptable force and the stage where the dead take on the form they had in life seems to have been by-passed. In life he established the MO of killing quickly and efficently so in death his form drains the life from any breathing in the smoke he consists of, however his weakness is a fondness for the hunt he is fully capable of appearing in front of his victims but prefers to stalk them and give them a chance.

Fuck, this RP just screams for Rosalie Rouge... but Fie has an idea for a quirky young lady from a rich family, but seems to be the black sheep because she is 'sighted' or whatever it is called here. Yes, she is les-bitch-ian, but unlike Rosalie, she is searching for other 'sighted' like her and not so much going down the heroic path for some kind of misguided redemption. Is it possible that she met Lance and that they do have a tumultuous father/daughter relationship? I see her being strong headed (fuckin' no doubt there...) and constantly picking up after Lance when she comes over and pushing and prodding him about his weight and health. Perhaps Lance is trying to get my character to be a better daughter and better using her family 'resources' to better her talent, clean up her own attitude, not be so fake and socially fleeting and be thankful for what she has or something along those lines? Just a baseline of thoughts but do let Fie know.

And if Fie does make the cut: -To the other RPers joining up in here- please do let me know if you would like to blend a history together, Fie would really appreciate a RP for once where we all know each other. This is to everyone except for Hellis. If that bitch decides to show its face up in here...

Sounds good, I imagined to a degree Lance would have chosen the mediums he did for what they offer so someone who is wealthy always fits well and I do like characters with parental issues. The term I've used is medium but that's more OOC and perhaps what Lance would say, there's probably as many words for it as people who have it. This also reminds me I've put the setting in the OP but need to stick something more substantial in there for plot.

This is pretty much the relationship he'll have with most characters, for a change I've made someone who's happy in themselves so he's going to be looking out for others.

Pretty much what he'd encourage her to do, will tell more when I see the CS but I'm up for quite pre-intertwined characters in this especially with Lance who they all know by neccesity. And rib away on his weight.

2. What is the basic plot of this?
