OC Name: Captain Jack Dem Bones; usually shortened as Cap'n, Dem Bones, or D. Bones
Gender: Male
Age: 38 at time of death; has now been undead for about 120 years
Race: When living he was a Marauder; Now a Skeleton Undead
Homeland: Neo Marauder Village -After the original Marauder Village was seemingly destroyed, the remaining Marauders moved elsewhere and built a new village to continue rough-housing and living as they pleased. Set at the edge of a small lake, this village, christened Neo Marauder Village, is similar to the original one in features and culture.
Bio: Born and raised in Neo Marauder Village, Jack lived the Marauder life, rough-housing and marauding as he pleased. It was an enjoyable childhood that shaped him into a strong and durable person.
However, an unfortunate incident occurred later in his youth, robbing him of his left forearm and hand. It involved a man eating chicken, and a man-eating chicken and was altogether a traumatic and painful experience. Despite it all though, he persevered and recovered, getting his forearm replaced with a mechanical hook.
For some time afterwards he became disenchanted with his Marauder lifestyle, and became unnaturally withdrawn and introverted, rarely rough-housing and instead finding an interest in ancient artifacts. He became known as an oddball in the village over the years, though was never treated badly for it.
During one particular dungeon excursion Jack came across a 'tome of ancient lore', a Pre-Mushroom War children's book titled "The Pirates of the Seven Seas", that came to have a great influence on his life. Seeing the grand adventures of the titular characters inspired Jack to once again take up a life of rough-housing, this time as a pirate. He gathered up a rag-tag team Marauders and other Ooo beings and set sail, plunder the waters of Ooo as captain of the Beefsteak Pirates and their ship, the Onion.
They adventured together for several years, mostly finding treasures in caves and such, but occasionally actually pirating and battling with other sailors. Sadly, the Beefsteak's crew journey had to come to an end, as one day they were faced with a terrible Tempest Dragon that ravaged their ship. In the end, the entire crew died, save for the captain. Jack was left gasping for air as he struggled to stay afloat on driftwood as the Dragon continued to unleash it's storm powers upon him. Utterly devastated by the loss of his crew and losing strength, Jack's will to live diminished rapidly and soon he found himself sinking into the water as he gulped down mouthfuls of water desperately seeking air.
In the midst of this chaos, some of the crews swag, scattered into the water at the destruction of the ship, was accidentally swallowed by Jack, and shortly afterwards he soon died and sunk to the bottom of the ocean, a fallen warrior of the sea...
Or was he?
It turns out, one of the treasures he swallowed was the Bloodshot Crystal Heart, a cryptic item that the crew had found not too long ago, and had generally been creeped out by as it seemed to pulse with life. Turns out they were right to be wary of it, as it did have magical properties. Shortly after Jack died, the magic of the item brought Jack back to life, successfully turning him into an Undead. Jack would from that point on be living not off of oxygen and food, but the Heart's energy, and would be immortal as long as the Heart had a shell for his soul to exist within. Essentially, destroy his body and/or the Heart and he's gone.
Jack awoke in horror to find that he did not get to pass on to the great warrior village in the sky, and instead was stuck underwater, unable to die but unfortunately trapped within twisted remains of his ship that had mingled with nearby rocks. He would have to suffer through 120 years of that situation, as he watched his body slowly decay away until he was merely a skeleton with tattered clothing and the Heart pulsing within his chest cavity. Many times he contemplated suicide by stabbing the Heart, but could not find the drive to do it, possibly due to the Heart's influence.
After 120 years, Jack grew a hatred for the ocean he once loved, and soon was able to escape, the rubbish finally being moved due to an unnaturally strong flow of wave currents. He soon made it to land, and ventured back to Neo Marauder Village, only to find it gone with piles of machinery and wood it's corpse. This shell of a man, in literal and non literal sense, had been lost everything and had to live through it. He was tired and done, and finally nearly killed himself. But before he could pierce the Heart, it finally spoke out to him, giving him direction and possibly taking control of him.
It told him to keep on thriving as he had, to keep on living, as the Heart thrived off of it's vessel's soul's energy and gave him the ability to live with it's magic. Jake, having no where else to go and nothing to do, went with it, and decided to keep on pirating. However, he would never return to the godawful sea, and instead managed to build a makeshift zeppelin airship with the salvaged parts of Neo Marauder Village in plans of being a sky pirate. Christened the Onion Pixie, Jack soon set it off on it's first maiden voyage. Unsure of what exactly to do with his life besides keep on living, he decided to let the wind take him where it goes.
And perhaps it will one day lead to his peaceful and well-deserved rest.
Appearance: Jack, whilst still alive, had light blue complexion and a meaty, thick build. His hair was bright orange, and he had thick eyebrows and a large bushy beard, although the top of his head was bare bald. On his left arm he had a mechanical hook that was composed of complicated looking technological parts, although the hook functioned simply being able to rotate it's angle as well as charge itself full of electricty for use in combat. He was decked out in tattered Marauder attire, his usual outfit being a blue tunic, red shorts and a red armor skirt over them, brown battle boots, a brown cape with golden shoulders, a brown belt that barely fit him, and a black and gold horned helm adorned with a small skull. He also wore assorted accessories, like armbands and bandannas on his arms. He had a hearty voice, full of gusto and pride, and weighed pretty heavy in muscle.
Jack, now skeletal, has yellowing bones and his hook is now severely rusted, though still works surprisingly, now being charged by the magic of the Heart. Speaking of the Heart, it can be seen glowing through his chest and oddly enough also causes his eyes to glow red and red light to come forth from his jaw. He still has the same outfit essentially as when he was alive, although it is now more ragged and greening from algae that grew on it. The belt now fits him and has several more loops pulled through, as does his boots and the helmet is now missing, lost in the battle with the Tempest Dragon. There are patches of algae growing about on him. Lacking muscle or fat, Jack's weight is considerably lighter, save for his boots and hook, and his voice has now become guttural and frightening, now being projected through the Heart's magic rather than vocal chords.
Personality: While living, Jack was a hearty and joyous fellow, full of excitement for the world. He had a headstrong attitude and was generally in good spirits most of the time. He was a genius bruiser, being both physically strong and possessing a knowledge of ancient artifacts and such brought forth during his years of reading and exploring. He could be bloodthirsty at times, though this was in his Marauder's blood to enjoy rough-housing and was not his fault. He cared deeply about his companions and protected those he loved, and was generally a good person to those who knew him. His morality is a bit ambiguous, as he did do some marauding and pirating in his life, but alas he was still an okay person.
Now Undead and alone, these characteristics seem to be slipping away from Jack, especially moreso since the Heart began speaking directly to him. He is becoming more vicious and angry, frustrated with his whole situation and confused by the changed world. Due to the Heart, he is becoming increasingly more paranoid and suspicious of others, and is beginning to become deranged. However, he still retains some sanity, and all in all is just looking for a final peace. Additionally he also now has a deep hatred of the ocean.
