Cadence rubbed her eyes roughly, trying to shoo away the exhaustion, and pushed her hair out of her face. She turned on the water, which was a feeble trickle and ice cold, and splashed it onto her young face. She looked into the mirror at herself. She was the tender age of 19, but had endured more than most 90 year olds. Thinking about what life she would lead if it wasn't for the Darkness. She would be graduated from high school, maybe going to college. Maybe she would have a boyfriend, and a job. She would still have her Mom and Dad....and her big brother. She shook her head at her reflection and turned away, striding towards the make shift living area of their temporary home. There were children. Men and women ranging from Cadence's age, to very elderly. How they had survived was a mystery to Cadence. But none of that mattered right now. All that mattered was that they continued surviving. Cadence put a small smile on her face and walked towards the people she had come to consider her own family.
"Can I interest anyone in any food?" she asked quietly.

"No, no, you don't understand. There's a three day waiting period for your gun and ammo. No, nothing you see in the shop is actually usable. They're props. Look, I'm sorry if you really need your gun now, and that the one you took didn't work, but that doesn't mean I should have to do anything to compensate. Seriously, you're kind of an idiot." Donny spoke to a young teen with a noose around his neck. He stood on the edge of a roof, being held up only by the rope around his neck which Donny was holding. "I know you have your whole vendetta thing going on, I can understand that, but if you think you can just take one of my props, come into my store, and threaten to harm me just so you can get better guns, you're out of luck. It's a tough world, kid, sorry you had to see why. Tell the others what I told you." Then Donny let go of the rope, letting the kid fall to his death. His body never hit the ground however; the noose caught him twenty feet from the concrete, and it first started to choke him. Death wasn't instantaneous, causing the kid to bleed out as the rope cut into his skin. Donny clapped his hands of the dirt he amassed and looked to two other bodyguards. "Make sure you get his body cleaned up, I don't want his shit to drive away customers. Jeez though, we just got rid of last weeks corpses, and now this kid shows up to be the first in a couple of hours. What has the world gone to?" Donny walked down the stairs and headed towards one of his shops. In this part of the city, Donny and his family owned every building here. It was Darkness Territory; a couple of cheap motels, some decent bars, one or two nice restaurants. But the money-maker was the building that looked more like a fortress then a store; Hands of Kain, one of the lead manufactures under the Darkness Rule. They call themselves Manufactures, making things like furniture and electronics, but just about everyone knows them as weapon suppliers. This is most easily told by the armed guards standing in front of the store; all weapons are confiscated before entering, including knives and even small electronics (Donny knows far too well how potential they are as explosives). Anyone who doesn't comply won't enter. Anyone who tries get gunned downed by the guards. Technically, they can only sell to those aligned to the Dark Ones, but Donny implemented a bit of a system to sell to who he calls "Terrorist". All he needed to do was find a Terrorist who wanted the guns, get his money, and find throw away low quality weapons in the direction of the Terrorist. Not that it involved bullets, in fact bullets were sold separately. To anyone who saw, all Donny and his branch did was dispose of weapons, but in truth, it was more like an auction for those who need guns and can't be picky.

Donny himself was about to head to another transaction, the location being a run down shelter. He was going to be meeting with some Terrorist Drug Dealers who are aligned to the Rays, trading some guns and ammo for hard drugs. Donny isn't a consumer, but he knows plenty of people who are. As he and his entourage armed themselves (Lightly; no point walking in armed to the teeth, but better to always have a weapon) and headed out. "Oh, and Cynthia, if anyone comes in to apply as a Tax Collector, forward their resume to me please." Leaving his order to his secretary, Donny and his gang left to roam the street and head to the transaction point.

She took their silence as a no and instead sat down at the small toile in the middle of the little living room and decided to work on her sketch. It was an intricate piece, exotic flowers weaving in and out of each other, with small fairies playing hide and seek between the petals. She started shading the wings but sighed. She wasn't able to concentrate. Cadence Jade Maidment was a strong girl, a stubborn woman. The Darkness had just fueled these traits, but they had also taken many valued things away form her. Her life, her family, and her ability to do things she loved without distraction. She pulled her long, red curls into a high ponytail, sighing. People were milling around, preparing for their own little things. They were a large group of Rays, but mostly people kept to themselves. She rubbed her eyes again, thankful she no longer wore make up.
"Cadence! Come quick! Look at what I found!" one of the little boy's called. A smile danced around Cadence's face as she headed over and crouched down beside him.
"What have you got here, Zack?" He the boy burst into a detailed tale of seeming adventure of how he had found the Arrow shaped rock.
