Biography: Marcus was born in the waning days of the Roman Empire. He was the second son of a rich and influential family that had long served the empire in the military and he too was expected to enter. Alas for him he hated violence. From the very first moment he was born Marcus always held a certain distaste for fighting finding it wasteful at best and ruinous and pointless at worst. Despite his own personal feelings on the matter he was forced into the army and given the rank of centurion. Despite his hatred of violence or perhaps because of it he quickly became popular with the men he commanded. He had no desire to waste their lives on suicide missions and detested losing even one man under his command. He trained his men hard and long but they were better for it and soon they became one of the most highly trained units in the Roman army. His casualty rate was the lowest, success rate the highest and overall he had proven to be an exceptional centurion.

However it was not too last and soon he was given an order to take his men into a battle against forces he could not hope to win against and nine out of ten of men were killed the rest wounded only Marcus escaping relatively unscathed. Marcus escaped any sort of punishing for being in such a horrible loss due to his own parents star shining brighter than ever with the passing of one of his largest rivals. Marcus could not bring himself to stay in the army after this and left deciding to enter politics so that such a waste could never happen again.

He entered bright eyed and idealistic ready to make a change for the better, it did not last. Soon he saw all too well the nest of vipers that politics was. It was even more of a pity for him that he excelled far too well. It took him two years to realise how much he wanted to leave and by that point he had already succeeded in becoming a senator and it was too late to try and leave as his family was pressuring him even more to stay in. He did and he quickly rose to prominence as one of the most powerful senators in rome and with such power came knowledge and danger. He learnt why the force he had commanded had been sent into battle, he learnt the real reason for the death of his men and this pointless bloodshed. It was his own family who had sent him to die. The general who had commanded the army had been an enemy of Marcus’ father for years and his father had jumped at the opportunity to finally send a long time enemy to their ruin even at the cost of his own child, Marcus was only the second child after all what difference did it make? He had his firstborn and a third and fourth son if need be.

Marcus was devastated upon hearing this all of his life he had done what his family had wanted, what his family had wanted him to do and after all of this it was his family who sent him to die, it was unforgivable. Two roads lay before Marcus now the political route of ruining his father and his family or the far simpler method of killing him. The option of forgiving his father never did enter his mind despite how much simpler it would have made his life later on. Marcus eventually decided he did not want to just kill his father, no, he wanted to ruin him completely first. He decided to use all of his political power, all of his skill and all of his money in this one bid at revenge, Marcus cared little about what would happen to himself afterwards and ruin his father he did.

He convinced his father and his family to help him with a coup against the emperor and persuaded his father that he could gain far more power this way. Marcus also had a grudge against the emperor at this point as the emperor had agreed with his father’s plans and helped them along. And so Marcus planned and schemed gathering support for his ‘coup’ using all his resources to ensure its success and failure at the same time. It was at this point that he attracted the attention of his soon to be sire. Marcus’s plan succeeded and the coup went off without a hitch the position of emperor was within his grasp and it would have been so easy to reach out and grab it but that was not what he wanted. As soon as he and his father killed the emperor soldiers rushed in and arrested him, brought there at the exact right moment to catch both of them in the act of stabbing the emperor whilst Marcus beheaded him. Marcus had succeeded and he did not resist the arrest, his father assuming his son would get him out of this also let himself be taken. Marcus languished in prison for barely a week before his sire sought him out, a Lambrosa called Nakesha had long been interested in this mortal who was so adept at politics and fighting. She offered him an immortal life and he would have refused but she also offered him a chance to personally kill his father and take the executioners place.

Seeing no reason not to take her up on the offer he accepted and was reborn as a fifth generation Lambrosa vampire. Never had he felt so satisfied as when he snuck into his father’s cell and told him everything about how the coup had simply been a plot to have his father disgraced. Marcus’ father could not believe and shouted and raged at him for the entire time right up until Marcus nailed him to a cross and left him to die. Marcus would come to his father at night to taunt him and enjoy the suffering as he slowly wasted away.

Marcus’ purpose in life had ended and he had nothing left to do so he wandered, his sire had little desire to command him and left him to his own doings eventually dying some hundred years later in a when she miscalculated and suffered her final death under the sun. Marcus had little desire to again join in the politicking that so plagued his fellows and instead chose to spend his time perfecting his disciplines and learning from any who would teach him. He quickly found that most vampires were quick to teach him if he would supplicant himself before them, most of those he met had no idea that he was a not some young and weak vampire from their clan but instead a powerful ancient himself.

This continued for centuries every once in a while he would fall into torpor for a century but for the most part he wandered Europe, Africa and Asia learning what he could and cataloguing the history vampire. His interest in the nature of his gift grew over time and he tracked down and learnt as much as he could about the history of the kindred and the activities of his kind. He eventually decided to create a new identity as a seventh generation vampire of unknown lineage who travelled the world learning and tracking down artefacts of historical significance as well as artefacts of great power all of these he stored in a huge underground labyrinth riddled with traps and with creatures of great darkness and power. The location of this is something he will never reveal and it is impossible to find and has no entrances. He enters using his powers of Obtenebration and leaves the same way. The rituals he enacted to ensure it’s safekeeping are many, varied and in many cases incredibly bloody. Although his distaste for violence and killing had lessened somewhat with age and his becoming a vampire it still remained and he went to great lengths to gather many times more the needed humans to ensure that not too much of their blood was spilled so that they would survive the process.

When the time came for his great torpor to commence in the 1500 he retreated to his underground lair and slept. For four hundred years he slept waking again at the turn of the 20th century he awoke to a world he was unprepared for, a world totally different from the one he had left behind. When he did awaken he found that his old persona had not been forgotten, quickly assuring those who asked that he had merely been in torpor for the last hundred years and spent the rest of the time in other parts of the world. He was quickly brought up to speed by the vampires who sought his knowledge trading history for current knowledge. The World Wars were a shocking awakening for him. When he had left his kind had been so supeior they could have wiped out the human race without much trouble, now with the majority of Methuselah’s dead or in torpor the kindred could be wiped out quickly and even had they all been awake Marcus was not sure who would win if it came to battle his travels led to the unfortunate knowledge that it would be the humans. This led him to even more fervently protect his great haven that lay beneath the ground; he was worried that with the advent of human technology it would soon be found. He decided to move his storehouse to the very tip of Greenland spending the next fifty years enacting every ritual he could imagine or concoct until he was finally satisfied it was safe. He has since spent the last twelve years until 2013 travelling the world again seeking new and even greater knowledge more specifically he has begun to extensively research the possibilities of the so called final nights.

Marcus has an almost unmatched knowledge of vampiric history and his collection of artefacts both magical and mundane is second to none. He also has at least some skill in many disciplines and has mastered several of them himself. However despite his status as an elder he has no minions to hide behind, no governments to command and his fortune while large is hardly of the same scale as many even a thousand years his junior could command. He has very little interest in the infighting between vampires but has recently begun to spend most of his time in Paris and Miami as he can feel that change is in the air in these places and he wishes to experience first hand the events that are to occur.
