It is winter 2009, and the united states of America, especially New york state in particular is suffering a terrible recession, as if the cold winter weather wasn't bad enough for the struggling yet hard working American citizens who try their best to support their families as jobs crumbled around them. For high school students, things were even more difficult, the lack of jobs and money in the world gave many students no choice but to end up homeless or in hostels which eventually led them to drugs or a life of crime. For one troubled Girl and her friends who recently dropped out of high school after a flurry of bad grades and no such appraisal of a promising future from their teachers and family, they took their love for music, friendship and trust through pain and many hard times that ruined them along the way, but in the end they made a change in their lives for ever and for the world of music fans that saw them as an example.

This is their story.

Hey Guys, This is going to be a second attempt at this role play that i really enjoyed, but unfortunately the people i had which had brilliant characters dropped out after a few weeks as an extended downtime occurred. This role play is to do with a band of five high school drop-outs who have all been good friends since a young age, this role play will follow their story through the beginnings of becoming legends and follow them through tough times such as loss of family and the lead singers troubling drug problem.

I want this Role-play to be emotional and as true to real life issues as possible including as much depth as possible.

The style of this rock/punk/post-hardcore band will be very close to Paramore and a day to remember.

Here is an example of what one of their songs would be like.

Personality: A very sarcastic joker. Drake loves to have fun and is known to be crazy on and off the stage. He doesn't consider himself hyper but others would probably disagree. He loves his music and everything about it. And on occasions is known to drink a bit too much. Drake likes to consider himself a ladies man. Drake believes that on stage you need to give your all no matter what. You get on that stage and when you come off you better be about to pass out. As make as he may like to pull the occasional prank he isn't to fond of having one pulled on him. He enjoys playing his guitar almost as much a women. As a matter of fact a few people believe he loves the guitars more. He loves to tinker with things which is partly why he is so good at repairing things. As much as he loves america and all of it's music he usually has a British flag somewhere on his cloths. And even though he plays guitar in the band sometimes he likes to take his violin out and play it a bit.
History/Background: Drake grew up in Britain till he about the age of 10. His parents were big music enthusiasts. His Father was a classical guitarist and his mother a violinist. So as a child he grew up around it all the time. As a child the minute he could hold an instrument he was taught to play. After a few years he knew how to play both but ultimately decided on electric guitar. Something about it just struck his interest. He liked the way it sounded and all the things about that were different then his father's classical guitars. Then one day after a few years his parents ultimately decided to move to the states for business reasons. When he got there they decided to put him in a public school. Keep in mind he was used to private schools in Britain. When he arrived he found a few people that listened to rock music. Something about struck his interest and he started listening to all the different genres. After a while he went from his preppy cloths and started wearing leather jackets and studded belts. Then after a few more years he eventually dyed his hair the iconic red color it is now. After he graduated high school he got a few tattoos. Then he got real bad for a few years when he started to drink. He had smoked since high school but drinking was usually not something he did. He drink alcohol like it was nobodies business often blacking out a few times. Then finally he had to go home too his parents and get straight again. He knew he needed to do something besides just party. He needed a band and he needed one bad. It would give him something to do and allow him to live a long life dream of his. So he went out and bought his dream rig a white customized Les Paul he has dubbed Pansy, and his rack of Orange amps.

Band Position: Rhythm Guitar

Sex: Male
Personality: Dedicated and confident, but not vocal about it; Logan would much rather his playing do the talking for him. He's not a shy kid, but he's no social butterfly either. His talent, at least in his own mind, makes him good enough to go farther than the band, and this gives him the confidence to not be scared to death on stage. He realizes that rhythm guitar isn't exactly a "hit" with the ladies, thus he tends to downplay that side of his on stage presence. He is very close to the rest of the group, viewing them all as a family, people that he knows and trusts, and who he believes will look out for him, at least for now. He is a bit envious of the attention given to any lead vocalist, believing that it's somewhat misplaced and that everyone should get equal time in front of the camera; however, this only makes him want to be better and though he tends to bristle easily, his temper is usually short in span.
History/Background: Growing up in Queens, Logan's upbringing was not an easy one. He doesn't talk about it much, but his parents divorced when he was about six or seven and he has had to travel between his parent's houses, and see bits and pieces of their lives, for ten years. This has had a profound effect on him, making him feel an extreme sense of wanting to belong to any group. He taught himself how to play the guitar and thus far has not shown any promise with any other instruments. He tends to avoid all talk of families and love and such, turning either into himself or very bitter.
Likes: the color black, gothic music and symbols, having a "rhythmic solo" in a song or two, girls, rock, tatoos
Dislikes: rap music, excessive talk about families, excessive attention seeking behavior, stereotyped as the "other" guitar player
Unique traits: His screaming ability. He can hold his screams or "fit" them to the particular song as needed. He sees this as a blessing, but isn't sure how to fully make use of it.

Personality: on stage she's a total wildchild, sometimes feeling the need to take a bit of attention from the guitarists and vocalists, but just a little. Off stage she's much more studious and calm. spending most of her time on her music or often being the voice of reason between the crazier band members. is not a heavy drinker or drug user, but doesn't shy away from them either.
History/Background: May was born in Tokyo, moved to the US when she was 12. Dispite being blind since the age of 4, May was Classically trained in Piano and Cello, picking them both up quickly, and soon conquering other instruments May didn't even pick up a bass till she was 14, but proved to be a natural at that too. The Bass became her number one instrument, only going back to the others when its needed by the band, because only a true punk band can make a Cello work.
Likes: Loud and fast cars, classic rock and roll, not being "normal"
Dislikes:cigar smoke, Rap music, haters
Unique traits: can do the kinds of insane things guitarists can with her bass, like make it talk, or tap solos with both hands able to memorize a piece of music after hearing it once

I've gone over all three of you're character sheets.

They are nice characters but i would prefer some more input to you're backgrounds and such, this is a casual role play after-all.

Here's my character which is a good guideline for word count that i expect.

Personality: Kayleigh is an extremely stimulating, rebellious and outspoken individual who stands up for herself, her personal ideas and people she is close too, it can even get her in trouble at times which obviously didn't boost her reputation with her school teachers rather well after telling her school principal to go fuck himself in front of the entire school during a school music performance. Kayleigh tends to brighten up social gatherings that include individuals who are not stuck up their own asses, Kay hates people like that but when she is around people who know how to be chill she engages them with her fresh and original ideas and loves to share her issues and opinions and help others with theirs, Kay understands from her past that life can be a bitch. Kayleighs conversations tends to be sprinkled with novelty and wit which boasts her highly charismatic and also extremely sensual personality. Kay loves her freedom and claims that she sees this life as an ongoing adventure to explore. She is upbeat and optimistic. This is infectious for those that she meets. As a result, kayleigh inspires others. Although her closest friends claim that her personality is natural to her being and just, rumors speak of a past or current alcohol and drug addiction to crystal Meth that she keeps secret from everyone she knows although people claim she has gone through rehab in the past due to a period of absence from school.

History/Background: Kayleigh grew up in conditions that people today would call evil and sickening. Kayleigh was brought up under the abusive and alcohol infused treatment of her single father who resorted to a life of drug dealership and drug taking after the loss of her mother in a freak accident. Unfortunately her father took his frustration and anger out on his daughter, beating her for no apparent reason and using her to deliver drugs to clients at a ridiculously young age, she was too young to know any better as to her, the world she lived in was cruel and lonely. Due to the fumes of drugs which filled her fathers run down apartment, Kay received a drug addiction to crystal meth that her father used as his key source of pleasure and money. At the age of 12 Kayleigh was rescued from her father after the drug enforcement agency raided his apartment and was later put into child care by social workers. Through the years that followed Kayleigh was forced to feed her addiction by spending her lunch money given by her orphanage in shady new york alleys. At the age of 14 Kayleigh was adopted by the Brooks family and taken into their home, all went well until they found out about her addiction when she was 16 years old. After the arguments which ensued she was forced into rehab, her school education was greatly effected by this resulting in her troubles with numbers and words. As of the present day, Kayleigh is 20 years old and living in a somewhat shitty one bedroom apartment after being kicked out of her own home, the Apartment stinks of parties and drugs which unfortunately reflects on her minor criminal record. Currently the status of her drugs habits are a mystery but the only thing that's bringing up questions is "How could someone with a past like that be so happy?"....

Likes: Skinny jeans, Tattoos & piercings, Pot, Post-Hardcore and punk music, Alcohol, Parties, Friends, Drunken one night stands.

Dislikes: Tight spaces (Claustrophobic), Stuck up Assholes, Liars, Pop & Rap music, Hospitals, Greediness, Snobs, prison, police, politics.

Unique traits: Kayleigh is incredibly flirtatious and sensual in nature and loves to play hard to get when it comes to relationships, Kayleigh is bisexual but has more experience with girls that she does with guys. Kay also has a wild fascination with her hair and its color of red, to her its her style and if anyone were to steal it she would freak.

Skills: Kayleigh is a highly talented Artist, singer and musician, most of the time she can be seen either drawing due to her creative nature, or writing songs in her personal diary, Kay loves music and see's music as a way to escape from the reality of life, she also likes to share her music with others that she can relate to in hopes that it will support them in hard and drastic times. Kay can also slightly play the guitar to an average level but prefers to let her voice do the work.

Personality: May's On Stage and Off Stage Personas differ greatly, on stage she is a wild child, a wreckless and crazed torrent of energy, easily able to steal the spotlight from any other member of the band, but only enough to ensure she's never just " the Bass Player." Flaming amps and stage diving are nothing unusual for any night May is on stage. Off Stage May is a completely different person, very quiet and reserved, often spending hours alone reading a book, or writing music. She may not be the hard living partier that the rest of the band is, but she's always shown she can hold her own when the party starts, able to drink more than her small stature should allow, though its a rare occasion she goes that far. She usually ends up as the calm, relaxed, voice of reason between other band members and occasionally the deciding factor when discussions start to become arguments. Quiet and introverted she may be, don't ever let her quiet demeaner and small stature fool you, May will always stand up for what she believes in and is extremely loyal to her friends.


History/Background: May was born in Nakano, Japan, a prefecture of Tokyo, her mother Ishi, owned a restaurant and her father, Hatori worked for a shipping company. May's family was not rich, but they did their best to give her everything she needed, and most everything she wanted, While maintaing a strict household. When May was 4 she was diagnosed with a severe case of Bilateral Retinoblastoma, almost dying twice before she was left completely blind. By the time she was 6, May was already fascinated with music and set out to learn to play it. Her parents paid for and pushed her through,professional lessons in both Piano and Cello, both of Which May took to instantly, but nothing was ever good enough for her parents. When May was 12, a position became available at a music school for the blind in America, so her family moved so that she could get an even better education. May used her time there well, but switched to a regular high school when she was 14. By the time May became a teenager, she was already beginning to rebel against her strict upbringing, she was getting straight A's, she was a brilliant Musician playing Piano, Cello, Violin, and Flute,but there was something missing in her life, something she had been craving for awhile, Rock and Roll. The Music, the Lifestyle, the environment, it was calling to her. May's parents of course did not approve of such music, and continued to push May into good grades and classical music. When some of her friends started a band, May was very supportive, always in the front row of every show, quite often having to sneak out to do it, and suffering the ramifications when she got home. May helped out her friends however she could, setting up equipment, cleaning up, holding Kay's hair back on numerous occasions, while she prayed to the porcelain god. but after 3 failed bass players, May took initiative. 2 Months of rigorous practice later, and May had not only learned a new instrument, but had memorized the bands fledgling song list. When the 4th bassist left the band in a fit of dickish anger, right before a huge show, May stepped on stage for the first time. She was nervous, she'd never performed live with this little practice, but that didn't last long, the show was flawless, the crowd was rocked, the club was in shambles,and a new era of Epicness that is Despair for Dummies was born.

the pictures look fine to me, so i'm not sure how to fix that.

Her blindness is not an issue if youd prefer I change that, I just thought it added a bit more to the character, physical flaws are just something I give my characters to help them stay away from becoming a mary sue, and it makes them more interesting to roleplay.
