    Game Over (Walk-in Roleplay!)

    OOC and Rules

“Game Over. You are Dead, Continue?”

This was the first thing you heard as you came back to yourself and extricated yourself from the strange numbness that took you after a sharp, blinding pain. You were in the dark, both literally and figuratively and felt yourself float in nothingness.

Took aback by the question you acquiesced, still in shock and wondered if this was the afterlife so many people talked about. A soon as you nodded your head, however, a blinding light enveloped you, filling the space you were in in a whole new nature.

You were now standing in a white room with no discernible boundaries before two strangely moving statues that seemed to represent yourself as either a male of a female. Over those statues floated smoky words of the darkest black imaginable that spelled 'Choose your Gender'. Looking closer at the statues, you noticed they both were standing on a small pedestal with a strand stone protruding from it with the word 'Select'. Was those buttons the way to go forward? But forward to where?

Both statues smiled and waved at you, wanting you to choose them, what should you do?

Mark, or rather he who had just been mark looked at the statues and reflected on his, no its death. As that which had been Mark thought this it felt a weight lift from itself. Mark had been looking out of a pair of binoculars when he was killed by a high powered anti-tank riffle. Not your average death. His father had brought him to work because his boss's daughter was to be there that day and was expected to be bored. He had met her a few times previous due to chance and his father had moved up a little in the company as a result. Looking off the roof they were sitting on, ignoring each other, Mark was lazily scanning the sky when he spotted the sniper, he had only enough time to absentmindedly think it was weird before... well this. It which remembered itself to have been mark looked at the statues and wondered, before think/speaking aloud, the voice that came out spoke the language mark had and used the same accent, but instead of one voice there were two one like Mark and one like his companion who likely also was dead on the roof top. "Umm... Can i get a GM in here to explain somethings? Like, 'Do I get to keep my memories or is it start from square zero?' or 'Can i have multiple characters which I can switch between all MMO style?' I suppose I might also ask, depending on the first answers, 'What happens if I die again?'

A tiny being made of pure light appeared then in the room, it's gender unknown as an air of peace entered the room at the same time as the being. A feet tall, the being floated before Mark and said with an heavenly voice:

“Welcome to the Afterlife, you are currently in the process of reincarnation as you were chosen to become a Champion, retaining all of your memories from one reincarnation to another. 'Character' is not the proper term for your life, call it 'Reincarnation', please. Please be prudent to act like someone in your situation, that you become a newborn to a Neanderthal. How may I help you? You may call me your Guardian Angel.”

The whole speech was made in a monotone as if the being had been asked the same question thousands of time already, it's lack of facial features nevertheless making the assumption shaky at best.

"Right..." he/it who had been Mark responded before continuing, "For the sake of simplicity then, maintaining the comparison of a 'character' to each Reincarnation... will I gain access to magic like abilities or supernatural strength or will I just be able to use skills and knowledge the 'Persona' I learn as each Incarnation regardless of the knowledge they would or wouldn't have otherwise?" Thinking over what The Guardian had said the remnant who knew itself as Mark added "Could you clarify on that neanderthal bit, are you saying I'm gong to be reborn as a cave-human?" The Remnant was startled at its own phrasing, why had she abandoned his own gender so easily? Contemplating it's past as Mark It realized its base Persona, That which had been Mark was both able to think objectively and preferred to think of things as they were. As a result It could abandon a sense of gender when it had no gender, it theorized.

A humming sound filled the room then as the Angel seemed to search for the proper answer to the enquiries. Waving it's hand through the air near the statues, the being muttered some occult sounding things under it's breath and looked back at the Remnant of Mark. As it lowered it's hand the statues started to change, from caveman to what seemed like elves passing through angelic and demonic looking creatures.

“You may not retain your abilities through your incarnation, however, though you will start as a normal human again you will one day, pehaps become an immortal being given you succeed through some trials in your previous lives beforehand. The vessels, or avatars, if you will, unlocked will remain so, being able to be drawn from every time you die.”

Seeming amused but without giving anything away through body language, the Angel made a white flame appear on it's palm as it continued.

“Magic is not native from your world, though you will one day, perhaps, unlock these worlds and abilities that lay inside you. Only you could change your fate. You will start again as a newborn infant in a world much like your own, though if it is more peaceful or not depends on you. Did that answer you enquiries?” Asked the angel, tilting it's luminous head sideways in askance.

“You must choose your gender soon, or else you will be stuck here forever, your fate sealed.” Said the being as it pointed to the now human-looking statues.

"Not really but based on your way of saying it I don't think I will get the answer, well..." The Remnant touched a statue and woke up. Looking around He who had been Mark felt small, small and suddenly cold. His sister had been born just ahead of him, well would have been. He who had been Mark contemplated fate as he saw his stillborn sister and wondered what would have happened if he had touched the other statue. This was the last thing he could think before the shock of having been born over took him. When he finally conquered the mortal terror of birth he retreated into him mind to consider what to do. First came to mind his knowledge of physiology, he knew very little but until he was old enough to have a degree of freedom he would focus on building his physical health. Straining his muscles and building up the strength of his bones and learning his environment. Having said this he attempted to say 'Right then point one for me' "wahht enn on ah or mah' hearing this he began laughing and opened his eyes to this strange new life.

Its eyes opened to the suddenness of the white light, something it hadn't seen for so long.
    But... how long?
It contemplated. The last thing it could remember... was darkness.

    "...dead. Continue?"

The voice surprised it. Although the message had been repeating since it 'awoke', it was distracted by its thoughts. It awaited the voice to relay the message again.

    A few moments passed.

"Game over. You are dead. Continue?"

There it was. But... where was it coming from? It looked around, trying to find the source. The voice, it was everywhere, or was it there? There? No, behind it.
It turned around. Nothing. Just white.

It turned back around, where two statues suddenly greeted him. A message was above them. "Choose a gender" It read with a glance. Confused, it hesitantly walked towards the statues. As it approached, the statues' heads turned to follow it, while their hands waved. In between the two, it saw the word 'Select', which was previously unnoticed. Only seeing a floating word, it put its hands over the text, expecting more to appear. To its surprise, there was nothing. Not no new text, but no hands. No arms. No anything. In a sudden fit of panic, it hastily did random body movements, whilst attempting to look at his body. Realizing its futile attempts, it stopped moving for a while to regain its composure. Back to normalcy, it saw that no new options had appeared, so it turned towards the statue resembling a male. The statue was looking at him, still waving.

It looked up, raised its arm, and waved at the statue.

As soon as the young babe tried to speak did a chime sound as if from nowhere with the words 'Quest Unlocked: Learning to Speak' floating just before the young boy's poor eyesight. The inhabitant of the room did not seem to notice either of the strange phenomenon as they both celebrated a new life and mourned another, the parents in particular were stuck between devastated and euphoric from the event that just unfolded.

As the doctors and nurse busied themselves in consoling the couple and taking care of the young baby boy, another short text appeared in the place of the previous one, this one saying 'Prologue: Infant-hood' in bright golden letters.

The young boy was soon cleaned and wrapped inside a warm blanket before being given to his grieving mother. 'What was he to be named?' Was on everyone's lips as they gathered around the new parents near the mother's bed.

The statue smiled and there was suddenly a tugging at the being's very essence, merging it with the statue and making it of flesh and blood. Soon doors appeared one nearby having “Human” on it's surface.

“Please choose a race” Said the same voice as earlier stated in a monotonous tone, the other doors seeming to fade away, only the one proclaiming it's contents as Human being fully visible as it opened slowly and silently, inviting the being to enter.

“Races are unlocked by doing various feats and meeting specific requirement, as your first reincarnation as a Hero, you can only choose Human as your class. Keep on the lookout for opportunity to unlock other origins and races. Please proceed to the origin chamber.” Said once more the voice, the opening door glowing a soft golden light as if to entice the being to enter.

The Remnant abandoned its old name, Living in the body of an infant boy unnamed That Which had been Mark became The Remnant. This act brought an awareness to it. It existed outside the new body which was its own. However the chains binding it to itself were too strong to leave and be aware apart from it. 'His name should be something simple. He will be nothing great this time, maybe remembered but not the hero The Remnant was summoned to become.' With this thought he 'spoke' and said, 'I am Allan Speak my name and I shall be born.'

Allan's mother's face lit up as she remembered an old friend from her school days, "Honey, Remember your friend Allan, the one who saved you Sister Anna's life back when we were in middle school."

The remnant felt the world change and it's power weaken. It used what was left this Incarnation to learn what it was capable of.

His Father thought a moment before smiling, "That's right I forgot to tell you, Anna and Alan met by chance about a year ago it seems. The got engaged just this morning. Would..." Allan's father faltered a bit before continuing, "Would it be Inappropriate to..." Allan's father didn't want to suggest his sisters name for their stillborn daughter, never mind mention her. "Oh It's perfect! We should name her after the flowers she was picking that day."

As the door began to open, and a light whiter than the room poured in, he looked around, searching, perhaps for the last time, for the speaker of the mysterious voice. Seeing nothing besides eternal whiteness and the open door, he sighs and slowly walked into the welcoming light.

Me... a hero, he thought, as the light flooded his vision.

"Anything of value in the bucket! I repeat, anything of value in the bucket!"

The light seemed to have disappeared as soon as it encompassed him. The purity of the light gives way to mud, rain, grime, and horrid smells.

"Wait for the mortars!" screamed a man with a gruff, commanding voice.

He looked around. There were many others around him, dressed in soldier's apparel. They were all on a path of mud about five feet wide, lined up against a slightly-slanted wall of dirt and partial-mud maybe eight or so feet high. Suddenly, an arm forcefully placed a rifle in his, and pushed him against the other soldiers.

"Get in line! You know well enough what to do!" commanded the same voice he had heard before.

He hastily leaned against the wall, trying to match the position the others were in. Suddenly, someone, probably from quite a distance behind them, screamed "Fire!" In that instance, the little noises he had heard upon entering this world, the breathing, the shuffling, everything, was now gone. Everyone, and everything, was silent.

In rapid succession, multiple fwooms and booms, along with many variations of the sounds, were heard. He, like everyone else, waited. A few moments later, explosions, many, strong, and extremely loud, were heard some hundreds of yards ahead of them. He scrambled to cover his ears to muffle the sound, but the helmet he donned did its job as a barrier. A second or so later, whistles rang out along the pathway. Everyone around him rushed to the top of the wall, and continued as fast as they could. Unaware of what was happening, he joined the others.

As he reached the top of wall, he saw lines of soldiers on his sides that seemed to last for miles. Someone pushed him from behind, urging him run forward like the others. Broken from his awe, he ran forward as more soldiers poured from the trenches behind him. In front, he saw small pools of water, brambles of barbed wire, and many, many bodies. People began to fall around him, others' limbs being shot off as they charged onward, and some began running back. A sudden fear gripped him, and he tried to join the ones running back, but that trench of safety seemed so far away. Left with no choice, he continued forward, strafing left and right. After what seemed like eternity, he finally reached the enemy trench. Some other soldiers had already arrived before him and had managed to take a machine gun post. He slid down into the captured area as the others rushed towards the other sides. Alone, he collapsed and wept. What was this madness? How had he survived? He continued to weep as more soldiers arrived into the trench, a few doing the same as he.

When he had a grip on himself, he shakily stood up and jogged to aid the others. He jogged for a few moments when he came upon a bayonet fight between the two forces. He took a shot at one in a different uniform, causing the soldier to scream in agony, which quickly stops when a bayonet plunges into him. Having a new feeling of sorrow and guilt, he hesitantly joins the bayonet fight. Luckily for him, the battle for the trench was nearly won, and the remaining enemy surrenders. The soldiers who had ran back, the artillery members, and captains from the previous trench joined with the victorious forces and set up a night patrol as many began to rest. Night quickly overwhelmed day, and silence encompassed the world again.

The quiet made him fidgety. He was unaware of how loud the battle was, the sound of screams and the continuous bangs of machine guns had become the norm for him a few minutes upon going over the trench. Left to his thoughts, he reflected back to the white room. The voice. It had told him to look for new opportunities, for new races, and new origins. However, tired after the battle he had suddenly been thrust into, he decided to rest, leaving the opportunities for another day.
