    It depends on your point of view and assuming you're ignoring the prequels. Setting aside the Jedi you have a two sides, one espousing freedom, another espousing the slave trade. They clash much like their counterparts in the Civil War. Both sides use single shot pistols and rifles with nothing automatic in sight. The quick draw amongst the roguish element is imperative to survival and goods are transported in cargo ships moving from planet to planet like wagons moving through the desert and can be set upon by brigands at any time. You also have those taking ships up to remote worlds, bartering for spice, mining for resources and worry about being claim jumped. Return of the Jedi even had a re-enactment of Custer's Last Stand!
