Can I be a female undercover ronin? A feudal lord has sent her to seek out and join the Spider Clan. His intention is to bring the clan down from the inside and gain fame for ridding Rokugan of ronins. But what if her naive nature means that she becomes fascinated by the world of ronin and becomes true to them instead? Or worse still, she falls for someone in the ronin clan?
And if this is a realistic RP, and no females are allowed... oh, what if my girl character pretends to be a guy?
Or if that is too troublesome, I can downright just play a guy.

Well, you can't really eradicate ronin forever because they're just masterless samurai - when a lord dies his retainers often become ronin, or if a samurai commits a crime he might be exiled from his Clan to become a ronin. But you could be an undercover Emerald Magistrate (basically the Imperial police force) investigating the Spider Clan. That would work!Originally Posted by SilverRain
Not a problem. Being a bit fantastical, Rokugan has much better gender equality for a feudalistic nation than would have been in feudal Japan and basically there's no real glass ceiling for women - they can serve in the military, there have been lots of female Clan Champions (the head of a Great Clan) and several Empresses, including the current one. There are even some matriarchal families within the Great Clans, such as the Matsu family of the Lion Clan, who are some of the most fearsome beserkers in the Empire - and it's custom men have to take their wives names if marrying a Matsu instead of the reverse.
That's not to say it'd be completely smooth sailing, since the Clans disagree on basically everything and gender politics is up there. You might still encounter people who think women should be seen and not heard or something, but they'd be an abberant minority.
I like this idea, would be more than interested to play a role large or small.
