    The Land of Forndeilum

Welcome to the land of Forndeilum.
It is a land of great strife. Throughout its long history, there has been more war than peace. About forty years ago, a great natural cataclysm, brought on by Father Earth himself, brought an end to a thousand-year long time of general warfare. Tens of thousands perished in the span of a few weeks. Countless cities, ravaged by the war, were obliterated overnight.
The Elves blamed the Dwarves, The Dwarves blamed the Elves, and humans blamed each other. None of them dared to provoke Father Earth, so they all reluctantly agreed to a ceasefire. None of the nobles wanted peace, but it was rammed down their throats nonetheless.
Being of divine power, Father Earth did not truly comprehend the mortal species. The peace, being forced, was not bound to last. His children, the acid-spitting behemoths known commonly as dragons, claimed many locations throughout the world, sometimes enforcing the peace, but mostly spreading chaos.
You are a member of three main factions. You are either human, Dwarven or elven. Of late, tensions have been rising. Rulers of the various kingdoms have been salivating over their neighbors' territories and treasures. Some kings wish to redraw the borders. None dare yet engage in full-scale war, but border clashes between nobles' armed forces are frequent.

    The nations and realms
The map. Due to size restrictions, it is stored off-site. Here.

This roleplay has three playable factions.
    - Humans of Storvollr
    - Elves of Digrlauf
    - Dwarves of Salsteinn Hold
There may later be others opened up, but initially there will only be those three. All characters must fall in under one of these three.

    Name: Volgun Canteorn
Age: 49 (Looks to be in 20's)
    Race: Human/Elf Mix
Homeland: Borderlands between (Human) Austanvoller and (Elven) Digrlauf.
Loyal to: He leans toward elven, but because he travels to elven and human cities, he doesn't have a set kingdom to follow.

    Appearance:
He stands about 5'6, taller than most half-breeds, he takes it after his father. His build is stockier than most elvs, but leaner than most humans. He has tight muscles, and broader shoulders than most half-breeds. His features are sharper than humans, but his ears and other evlen like features are dulled, and rounded.

He has dark blue eyes and pitch black hair. He keeps his hair cut in a shaggy fasion, because of being on the road, he cuts his own hair. He has a scar on his jar, leading from his left ear to the end of his jaw. He would be considered handsome in human culture, and rugged in elven.

Class: Mystic Bard (Magic Using Bard)

Skills: He has a wide range of historical knowledge, and music skills because of his bard training. He is a suave person, being very charismatic, and can use basic magic. His fighting skills are roughish in nature, learning from the streets, but it is only a basic kind of fighting. Living on the streets meant he knew some thieving skills, but the backlash from that is his very bad skills of nature, strength and similar things.

Magic: His magic is used in two sections Music and Misc. The music part is magic for telling stories, singing songs, and just bard like skills. They throw of sparks and pretty lights, nothing that can do any damage and is just for show. He can also amplify his lute and make it do crazy and mystical sounds. The other type of magic he uses is Misc. It is mundane magic, like very weak levitation, light orb, fire starter (small sparks), summon water (about a water bottle size), and distort sound. All of this is weak and used for his craft and sometimes to run away.

    Background:
Let's start with his parents. His mother, a beauty with long dark hair and elven features, was a elf from Digrlauf, who went into Austanvoller to escape her family for a while, as they where very strict and wanting to force her to marry, as she was already 100 and unmarried. She meant to go away for a couple days then return to what ever arranged marriage her parents had. His father was a humble bard and was very handsome. They met in a tavern and it was "love at first site". Both knew it was wrong, but they enjoyed the one day of freedom. After a couple months after returning from this human city, she found she was pregnant, and before her soon to be husband and parents found out, she fled to bard in the same city, she was lucky enough to find him, and he took her in, and settled down. That was only till the baby was born, then she took off, leaving Volgun with his father, but Volgun was giving to his grand-father, also an old bard, while his father traveled.

Volgun grew up in borderlands city, used for trade, so he wasn't the only half-elf, but still no one trusted him. His grandfather however raised him like he did Volgun's father, with the bard training, but in his old age the man had learned some magic and passed it on to him. At age 20 he started to travel, and honed his bard skills and picked up even more magic.

Personality: Volgun is a grey area, he has mixed views, and mostly just wants the next coin, to save up to go to the next place. He doesn't like political issues, as he himself is one, and likes to make decisions on his gut feeling. He is a very talkative person and is very bright, especially when singing or anything bard-related.

We cannot see anything instantly wrong with that character. It looks good.

There were merely a couple of things we'd have done different layout-wise, but that doesn't matter. Its well written.

    Name: Frey Greyheath
    Age: 24
    Race: Human
    Homeland: Storvollr
Loyal to: The King of Storvollr

    Appearance:
Tall, lean and hard of body, Frey bears a passing resemblance to a starved predator. Haunted eyes of dark brown are framed by a widow's peak, raven black hair falling in waves to his collar, and ever-present dust and grime lies in smears across a granite-hard face. A wry smile is commonplace upon his lips- that, or the fierce snarl of battle.

With a willowy and muscled physique, Frey carries himself in a way that suggests a casual power, like that of a hunter stalking his prey. Unlike most bowmen, his arms are not lopsided between right and left; a decade of rigorous training has left him with a hard, compact body capable of surprising feats of agility. Despite the multitude of scars ornamenting his torso and limbs, one mark is more noticeable than it's peers- below his right armpit, about halfway down his torso lies a knotted scar, though it's cause is a secret he prefers not to impart.

Across Frey's shoulders is slung a weather-worn cloak of black wool, fastened at the collar. The hem is torn and ragged, the result of many days on the road and many nights in the wild. Beneath the cloak is a grey tunic of surprisingly fine cut- it seems a strange thing for a wandering beggar to possess such clothing- but this again is stained by dusk and grime. Loose leggings cover his lower body, and hard leather boots his feet. Across Frey's midriff is strapped a leather belt, wound twice around his slight figure. Two daggers hang in sheaths, one from either hip, but perhaps most surprising of all is the bow slung across his back. Elegant, curved horn with a string more silk than twine is adorned by sharp, v-shaped ridges, and the sigil of a griffin is set upon the handle.

    Class:
    Scout

    Skills:
Of Frey's varied talents, by far his most valued is the control of his body. He can effortlessly leap through the air, scale trees and somersault through windows, and can move with the silence of a midwinter night. This lends him naturally to be skilled at moving without being seen, and getting into places others cannot. He is also incredibly fleet of foot; he can keep pace with a pack of wolves or escape foes without too much difficulty. Likewise, his senses are more acute than the average human and he can pick out a running deer across open ground at half a league away or track a badger through a forest.

Frey is also a keen shot with a bow. Being as familiar with it as with the clothes he wears, he can fire two arrows with a single draw of the string, and pick out a target at two hundred feet when using a single. Having learned to use it while remaining mobile, he can take shots at a run without slowing his pace and even while leaping.

Frey's flaws are derived largely from his uncharismatic nature. He finds it difficult to maintain conversation when talked to, and is almost as bad a liar as he is a diplomat. Furthermore, he is no more intelligent than the average man, though he has a sharp sense of thinking outside the box, and his strength is like that of a willow; when pushed against, he will usually bend.

    Magic:
    None

    Background:
Born as the second son to a collapsing noble house, Frey had a strange childhood. All around him were the privileged, the contented and the powerful, while he grew up in a manor house that was already falling into disrepair. While his peers learned the intricacies of the royal court, he spent his days roaming the picturesque streets of the upper districts in grubby, often ripped clothing; his family could not afford a tutor to educate both him and their heir. As his brother learned how to manage their house's finance, or properly address the king, he learned how to climb across rooftops and scale towers to reach the highest vantage point he could find and see the city splayed before him, the rich blues and yellows in the noble houses at the centre quickly turning to the greys and blacks of the outer slums. He gained a feeling of detachment from the city life. It could not touch him, and he had no need of it.

As he reached his fourteenth name day, his parents sent him off to train in the military academy, relieved to finally have rid themselves from his burden. He was not unwelcome; the sons of nobles were often the captains and generals of the future, and his family name still held enough sway to grant him free food and lodging. He himself did not resent his parents for sending him away, for he had always felt out of place in the city. The keep where he was housed, secluded in the plains South of his birthlands, gave him a sense of freedom that he had never before tasted.

The training was rigorous, but he rose to it, excelling in feats of body and doing passably in those of mind. It did not take long for the quartermaster to match him to the bow; in his own words, "That little smidge would get a trashing if he was anywhere near an enemy". And so he lived out the rest of his childhood, separated from the world he had once known and being inducted into the one that would become his life.

After reaching manhood, he made the unceremonious transfer into the ranks of the army without undue celebration or fuss. It was clear from the years he had spent in the academy that while he might excel as a soldier, he lacked the inspiration and chutzpah required to lead. He was assigned the role of outrider, and without any war to fight put on hold until such time as his services were needed.

    Personality:
Frey has an uncertain demeanour and is uncomfortable talking to even those he knows well. He hates being addressed by strangers, and lives with a healthy dose of paranoia, a product of avoiding human interaction. He is slow to trust, and while he is not apathetic to others, he finds it difficult to interact with them and as such is viewed as queer by the few that know him.

He is, however, an optimist and has a surprising amount of inner steel. When faced with a challenge he does his utmost to rise to it- if he deems it within reach. While not a coward, he is not a fool and sees no value in glory, so cares little for missions that would more likely and not turn him into a martyr.

That also looks good. Nice story-mode in the appearance text.

What do you think of Ljet's character? (we rather like getting more than just our own view on characters)

It's an interesting character, and bards tend to be quite rare. I don't really have any qualms with it, save that the background actually concerning himself could be more in-depth.

It could be, but its more important that the stuff coming later is in-depth. We'll consider it approved.

Would you look over our character as well? No character should be unjudged.

    May i join.

I want to try a mage, but i'm not to skilled with them.

Also my opinion, mystic bard is stupid. A bard is OP enough as it is in a group thread. Why give him extra magical powers and combat potential as well.

Hes pretty much the perfect mix of every rouge and mage class.

    Name: Gorzen Trollsbane
    Age: 95
    Race: Dwarf
    Homeland: Salsteinn Hold.

    Loyal to: Dwarven King.

    Appearance:
Blue eyes, scars on his face, specifically, the lower left side of his face looks like it had been mauled by something with claws.

    Class:Battlesmith!

Skills: Gorzen is skilled with a hammer. He can wield one as easily as an elf wields a bow. On top of that, he has natural High endurance and can go days on end in his armor. He also has extensive knowledge of Trolls, his job in his early years being one of hunting them down. a direct result of this would be fairly high strength as one would have to be so to kill a troll hammer or no. He's one of the top smiths of his clan, selling his wares for a fair price to whomever will pay. It should be noted, that his clan isn't exactly known for it's smithing, while being the top smith of his clan, he isn't exactly the best of the best in the dwarven world. He's also a fair cook, though he wouldn't win any awards. His cooking is simple. It's filling, doesn't require much preparation, and tastes good. It should be noted that if/when he fights hand to hand, he doesn't fight fair. To him, unless there is prerequisite rules to abide by, all's fair in love and war.

Magic: Very little. Simple spells of elemental manipulation. He expresses no desire to learn more. He views higher level (and therefore more treacherous) magic as useful, but not for him. After all, if he can't trust that which he wields, what can he trust?

Background: Gorzen grew up the son of a smith, which made it natural for him to become a smith of course. After a few years apprenticing to his father and others, Gorzen set up his own shop and began to earn a living in the name of his clan. Then came the call for the clans to remove the trolls from old lands they had held. Gorzen's clan was the forefront of this mobilization. Gorzen hung up his smithing gear in favor of the war-hammer and the armor. The first few days passed uneventfully. The occasional ogre was found, in addition to other non-sentient monsters. Then, the first troll attacked. It appeared suddenly and out of no where, as if the rock itself. Killing a large amount of the vanguard instantly. Gorzen himself charged the beast, using his minor magics to distract and harass, while his hammer did damage. Eventually, after nearly being killed several times, Gorzen slew the beast, Crushing it's head with his hammer. What followed were several other instances of battle like that one. Earning Gorzen the name 'Trollsbane.' Sadly, Gorzen's father was lost in this conflict. It also gave him his scars. After the conflict ended, Gorzen returned to his smithing, and there he has stayed, fading into the background and smithing in peace. Though he stopped recently and traveled to the top world to find someone to teach him magic. Smithing had begun to slightly bore him, and he had always been interested in learning. But, he knows very little, and is content with what he has.

Personality: Gorzen is a relatively calm dwarf not quick to anger, though is one of those who can turn from angel to demon in a heartbeat. He has a noted distaste for Trolls and all of their ilk, and is surprisingly more pleasant to elves than other dwarves. He won't treat them like dirt, and will let them decide for themselves how he treats them. The long years of smithing and thinking have given him a slightly different perspective on things. He'll let people show their colors to him before treating them as he sees fit. Naturally, if he doesn't like you, expect to be treated like dirt. He's a bit of a grey when it comes to if he's good or evil. While he doesn't necessarily like doing evil things, and will protest vehemently if forced to do so, maybe even go against the order if it's sufficiently bad, he's loyal to the Dwarven king. As such, he'll do damn near anything for him/her.

Equipment: Hammer, cooking provisions, 4 unlit torches, and a small axe.

Submit a character and we'll see, Makiaka. We judge chiefly on what the character sheet indicates.

There's only one thing that doesn't really fit on it, Rtron... No crossbow can shoot two leagues, let alone hit anything with precision at such range. Remember, two leagues is 11,112 meters.
Winding up a crossbow with such range would either require unnatural strength (even for a dwarf) or days of work. Then there'd be problems like what to make it out of, how to aim it, air resistance, gravity and countless other factors that would impact the shot.
Besides, most warriors of ancient times focused mainly on a single weapon, not on two. If the choice lay between becoming mediocre at several or good with one, then the one tends to win out most of the time.
