And so it has come unto this, when we are faced headlong with danger in what is sure to be a very bloodied and very chaotic battle. The artic chill in the air has made me bitter to any further cause for concern. Storming the far side of what was once intended to be our means of escape, not a means of entry, I can hardly hear the orders that escape from my own mouth in the midst of the fury that becomes our batallion. All I know is, it is mighty welcoming to see Mr. Nixon's undead compatriots take to the castle's front entrance, clawing away at a metal door with vigorious cause. General Sherman and his troop lend a hand aswell, as they bring about the artillery. His men set up a missle launcher in the grass, and he commands it to be fired. Nixon scatters his forces and we all brace ourselves for what happens next.

    FWOOOOM!

The door caves in on itself almost immediately, unable to withstand the force of the blast, whilst signaling our arrival to the enemy beyond. And hopefully, with luck, giving Jackson enough of a distraction to rejoin us for the battle to come.

I remove two seperate hatchets from the holsters strapped to my hips, bringing them in low. Removing my hat from atop my head, I fold it and tuck it away, as the other men prepare themselves in their own ways. Nixon with his conjectures. Kennedy with a hail mary. Sherman with a whispered pledge of allegeance. And me? Why, I've nothing further to say, at this very point. Except to one individual. The man who has led the Rough Riders, and it is with great purpose.

"Mr. Roosevelt, if you'd kindly lead us into battle."

    For tonight, we must ride.

"Bully," was all Teddy said. He operated the bolt action on his elephant gun and stepped through the hole in the wall. The Nazi guards all turned away from the prone Jackson and stared at the four former president's gathered together at the entrance to the castle. Roosevelt crouched and aimed his rifle at a man while he yielded the floor to Lincoln.

"We here highly resolve that these undead shall die in vain—that their lot, under my orders, shall have their final resting place—and that their evil shall perish from the earth. Fire."

Roosevelt and Nixon responded, opening fire with gun and spell. Those that didn't have their heads blown away by Roosevelt's elephant gun, were set ablaze by Nixon's fire enchantments. All the men were dead just seconds after Lincoln had given the order.

"Good job," said one of the bodies at it sat upright. Goring looked at the former president's and smiled. "And I am sorry about attacking you, Mr. Jackson. I had to maintain cover." Before their eyes, his shape shifted. The fat and tall form of Hermann Goring became waif thin and short. "Hermann Goring was killed by myself six years ago," said James Madison as he stood. "I'm Pinball. Your contact inside the Fourth Reich."

"Six years?!? You've spent six years living the life of Goring? What must that do to a man?" Kennedy said.

"Somebody brief him... or get briefed by him. Whatever's necessary..." Kennedy said opening his flask and walking away.

"Six years..." he muttered to himself, taking a swig.

"There's no time for that," snapped Madison. "We have to move quickly to stop the Fourth Reich from engulfing the world in their darkness. Hitler's high command are probably held up in the control bunker beneath the castle's cellar. From there, we can stop the rockets from launching and make sure the Fourth Reich is dead once and for all."

"I thought you were dead," I say to our long missing colleague as I push right past him. Towards one of the soldiers as they flood into the building. Some take defensive positions to hold our new beachhead. Others start tentatively exploring beyond the entrance, and the weapons fire begins to erupt.

    "You, stop right there,"
I shout at one of them. He obeys, and I begin taking weapons off of him and putting in my own empty holsters.

"Job's not done yet, lads. There will be time for ale after we've killed all of the demon-spawn." I direct a quick glare at Kennedy. Then start walking towards the massive doors leading into the rest of the stronghold.

But I stop by Madison's side. "Maybe next time you can reveal yourself before the point where you try to rip my throat out with your teeth."

I give Madison a grin...and then drop it with dead seriousness in my voice.

"Or I will put a bullet in your heart."

I turn away and walk out, firing at the Nazi cannon fodder as I go.

I cannot help but suppress a smirk at the reactions to Mr. Madison's part in all this. To say that I was not taken aback myself would be a lie I'd dare not utter, but I also have come to understand that with everything in this life, we must be prepared to go as far as we must to achieve our goals. The amount of vital intel that "Pinball" might have garnered us alone is worth the deceit, though I do fear that my men may not share the same sentiment. Nevertheless, as gunfire rains upon us from the barrels of these troublesome Nazis, my demeanor becomes much more serious as I lift a large axe and shield myself with the bulletproof blade.

"You heard our colleague, friends! Hitler intends to bring ruin to the world once again. Let us be sure to disappoint him!"

With General Sherman at my side, firing off enough rounds to give me cover, I leap at the first two Nazis and swing the axe down with a hard stroke, cutting their legs down to size. The team shall undoubtedly follow my lead.

The six ex-presidents, one former General, and the tactical teams made their way through the dark corridors of the castle. Most used bullets, one used the raw power of fire, another used a sturdy axe, still another used the mystic and arcane arts as his weapons. Regardless of their tool, the results were still the same. They left behind a massive wake of dead bodies, most undead but some human. Bullet by bullet, spell by spell, axe swing by axe swing, they purged the vampiric menace from the old Icelandic castle. The Executive Branch agents came through an ante room out into a large room where they had people waiting for them.

    "Velcome," yelled a robotic voice.

In the large ballroom that served as the Fourth Reich's command center, the robotic body of Adolf Hitler stood with the vampire Adolf Eichmann at his side. Protecting them were a dozen Waffen-SS vampire soldiers. Wordlessly, Lincoln motioned to Grant, who belayed orders to his men. The tactical team spread out and encircled the Nazis.

"If zis is your surrender formation," said Hitler. "Zhen is a poor one indeed."

The robo-furher held up his metallic arm. On it was a light that blinked in a slow, steady rhythm.. "Zis beacon monitors my brainwaves. Take me out, and ze rockets launch. It is your call, Americans. Let me go, or let the world be encompassed by ze vampire virus."

"So. Adawlf. Forgive me. I presumed it was you because of yawr little tin moustache. You speak English?"

An informal unassuming Boston accent came from towards the back of the Executive Branch's ranks. A neat man with perfectly coiffed hair strode to the front of the group. Adjusting the cufflinks on an expensive suit, his smile and a twinkle in his eyes seemed to mock the seriousness of the robo-fuhrer's threat.

    "How very interesting..."

Sensing the hesitation in his robotic leader, Eichmann immediately called for his fellow vampiric charges to "Attack!"

The mechanical monstrosity resisted my voice as best it could. Mind merged with metal would have made this a job much easier to handle if we had brought FDR with us, still we had to work with the resources we're given. I swore an oath. Gave an acceptance speech that I wouldn't shirk these responsibilities. Still remember it as if it were yesterday

I can assure you that every degree of MIND and spirit that I possess will be devoted to the long-range interests of the United States and to the cause of freedom around the world.
Perhaps people wouldn't expect I take it quite so literally, but that's what I promised. Do the most with the resources I'm given, make it work... and after all, I assured Congress that the human mind is our most fundamental resource. They didn't take it quite so literally either. As for android-Adolf over here, he's not in any hurry to take me in any way, literal or no. He's struggling hard against me, and because of the portion of him that isn't human I can't promise I'll come out on top, but this is my part to play and for America... For the whole damn world to succeed I have to try.

"Take the vampires, I'm on Hitler! Can't let him trigger the rockets! Hold them off!"

I return my focus to their leader. "Let's just keep this between us, shall we?"

"Haltet ihn auf! Er ansprach den Fuhrer!" <"Stop him! He's accosting the leader!">

Had about enough of Little Adolf, my hands are full enough with the big one.

"Do me a favor and swat that pesky little fly Eichmann away."

With a heavy swing, the mech swats his vampire offsider away. Too easy to get him to do that, he's been fighting too hard to prevent me from controlling the rockets and was willing to give up a pawn for a chance to still take the endgame.

    "Disarm the rockets."

"HA HA HA HA!" A booming metallic laughter echoes through the halls, "Zat is ze beauty. Zhey can't be disarmed from me. Zhey can only be fired. And ze absenze of my brainwaves will also trigger zem. Killing me will get you nuh-zing!"

That has me a little worried, if he could disarm the rockets he'd have been compelled to do it.

"And you know it's only a matter of time. You can't hold me forever. Already you struggle. Zee?" Hitler says. He's right and I know exactly what he's referring to. I can feel the warm trickle of blood dripping down from my nose from overexerting my power.

He'd have had to have disarmed the rockets if he could. So he must be telling the truth. He'd HAVE to tell the truth. Hmm.

"Tell us where the rockets are!"

He fights me hard on that one. The blood flows faster. But we get our answer.

"Ze rockets," Hitler's robotic voice said, clearly under strain from Kennedy's powers. "Zhey... are about to be launched."

Laughing maniacally, the robo-furher smacked his hand on the Swastika emblem in the middle of his chest. A low, loud rumble began somewhere below and grew louder. With the roar came vibrations that shook the foundations of the castle and everyone inside.

"Hell and damnation," cursed Roosevelt. He stumbled backwards, smacking into a wall. He pulled his elephant gun up and blew off the head of a falling vampire. "Nixon," he shouted over the din. "Do it."

Without a further word, the cloak-clad 37th president began to move his hands in complex motions, going so fast that his hands were blurring with movement. At the peak of his actions, Nixon thrust his hands out, yelling "Arooo!" loudly . There came a loud scream from Hitler's body, the robot moving stiffly for a few moments before collapsing backwards on the ground.

"There," said Nixon, holding up a blood red ruby with the thumb and index fingers of his left hand. "One self-contained soul, the Essence of Hitler."

"Bully," said Roosevelt. "But that does not change our current situation, gentlemen. The rockets are in the air, aimed at god knows where. Mr. Madison, is there a failsafe?"

"No," said the short man with a sigh. "The rockets were to be a weapon of last resort. The Fourth Reich did not want anyone losing their nerve after the rockets were away."

"Did you hear that, Franklin?" Lincoln asked to the mic attached to the side of his head.

"Yes, I did,"said FDR over the line. "You gentlemen may want to shield your eyes..."

Suddenly, a dazzling bright light turned the midnight sky into one of midday. There was a giant flash of fire from high above, followed by the dimming of the sky until it was back to the pitch black night dotted with stars and a full moon.

"Nelson," said FDR. "A satellite laser capable of scorching the earth. The Reich had their weapon of last resort, we had ours. Now, gentlemen, if you will proceed to the evac we shall get you back to Rushmore. Hitler's soul has been captured and the rockets were stopped with a bit of my meddling. All things considered, job well done..."
