    Man the Burden OOC

A little background into the world this rp takes place in. Tempest, the name of the new world that has formed from the remnants of the old. During a time of nuclear war, the world was advancing in two different ways, solar power technology and nuclear technology. In the end, the world was pretty much destroyed and a nuclear winter covered the world, but the human race took precautions. Sky towers, towers that were so large they towered over the clouds and were self running cities that ran off solar energy. So, the towers that survived the war were out of the range of the nuclear winter since they were above the clouds, so they survived. As the nuclear radiation affected the world, floating land masses began to rise out of the clouds that were at first unstable, but soon became stable floating islands.

So, now the world is known as "tempest" since everything is in the sky. Of course technology changed to adapt to the new sky world setting, so sky ships running off solar energy were created and laws were hard to establish at first, so of course pirates rose now we get sky pirates. In addition to this, special minerals that were infused with rare nuclear energy are harvested for money and using in trying to create new technology to reclaim the land that humans have lost. There are also creatures that have been mutated with everything else as well.

Anyway, back to the main story. There was one pirate crew known amongst everyone, the crew of "The Burden" a large ship that was as advance as any war machine but much smaller making it the perfect ship for pirates. It crash lands on an island where a group of young adults (our characters) find it, along with a rare cargo that is almost supernatural (yes we will get some powers) and after all is said and done, they become the new crew of the burden.

Now for a little extra tid bit as to why the ship is so special, the engine is a living person. I shall be taking the role as "Engine" of the ship to help steer the plot and also as a means of moving the plot when we need to. Now, CS time, Remember not first come first serve so apply for whatever position you'd like and you might get it.

    -Captain
    -Pilot/Navigator
    -Doctor
    -Weapons Expert
    -Engineer

These are the open roles. After a certain amount of days I will make final decisions as to who gets what role.

now the format of a CS

    Name:
Age: (early to late twenties preferably)
    Gender:
    Role:
Personality: (Give a good paragraph or so for this part)
    Appearance:
Skills: (Make this work with your role)
Fighting Skills: (Again, make this fall into your role, like if you're the doctor, be a doctor that uses medical themed attacks, like maybe needle weapons or pressure point strikes, etc.)
Background: (Two or three paragraphs here, give us some description of how you got to the small island and why you're there.)
    Equipment:
Magic: (Leave this blank for now, as I will assign magics later. This skills are predetermined based on the role you choose and the capabilities are limited at the start, but you can expand upon them later).

Simple for now cause that leaves more development for later. Now, for Engine

    Name: Engi
    Age: Unknown
    Gender: Female
    Role: Ship Engine
Personality: Being the operator of the ships system, Engi is someone that most of the time is preoccupied with keeping everyone alive by keeping the ship running. When she can get out, leaving the ship safely stationed in a dock, she is a very kind and happy girl. Being that she's sheltered in the hull, she doesn't see the hurt or darkness that pirates normally see, so she manages to maintain her innocence in a way, but she is self sufficient and isn't naive, she just doesn't fully understand how bad the world is.
    Appearance:
Skills: She is highly trained in hacking equipment with her body as well as being able to study and memorize the layout of any machine that she can either deconstruct or see the blueprints of.
Fighting Skills: With her memorization skills she can copy almost any fighting style she sees and is highly skilled in gun play.
    Background: Hidden for now
Equipment: Her cybernetic implants on her body and a special visor attachment to scan the surrounding areas.
Magic: Overdrive, she can create a surge of energy that can boost machine performances or even overheat machines.

now let me see what you guys can do.

    Am interested and will apply.
Probably going to go for engineer. Not calling dibs or anything, just giving a heads up :]
    <Placeholder>

Okies, here's my CS. Please let me know if this does/doesn't work for your RP and if I can change anything to better fit.

    Name: Erreur Emard

    Age: 24

    Gender: Female

    Role: Engineer

    Background
In a scattered world such as Tempest, one could imagine that fame is ever-so-difficult to achieve. While in no way “renowned”, the name Emard has been referred to here and there amongst the many pilots to traverse the skies. The head of the family, Alois Emard, has earned himself quite the reputation in some of the more remote parts of Tempest. Such a reputation, however, would be described as anything but grandeur. For while Sir Alois may be considered one of the best ship engineers of his area, he is better known for his gambling addictions, alcoholic weaknesses, and ever-so-famous playboy atrocities with the ladies. While many would look upon Alois’ lifestyle as shameful and lackluster, the man himself envisions his way of life as nothing short of epic. He is indeed a man who lives by the moment and regrets nothing.

Well, almost nothing. After all, gambling debts can be paid off through tough work and hangovers can be cured through crude concoctions. The adventures with the ladies, however, can produce some irreversible results. One such result was the product of a no-good, albeit attractive, courtesan. Alois was cornered into taking in this product and “lovingly” named her Erreur Emard. While a daughter had obviously not fit into Alois’ lifestyle, he found the girl to share his gifts for engineering and came to appreciate the extra help in his line of work. Unfortunately, their god-given and natural skills in mechanics were not all they shared in common. For Erreur Emard had inherited her father’s flighty and quirky personality, albeit in a different way. Customers would describe her as “odd” and “mentally off”. Erreur, however, simply does not understand the indifference of others and their satisfaction with their stand-still lives upon the Tempest towers. Above all else, she desired to move.

It was this particular desire that drove Erreur to volunteer on taking the short trip from their place of business to a rather sparsely populated island. Alois had recently signed in the repairs of some high-standing elite’s grandiose cruiser and required materials native only to remote places such as these. Erreur never understood the mindset of the rich and why their ships were composed of such intricate parts that were all but necessary. Still, she took the opportunity to travel from the ordinary; never wanting to remain stationary.

    Personality
Erreur is most definitely a quirky individual. She has unfortunately inherited her father’s nonchalant attitude towards life’s responsibilities and tends to live by the moment as she selfishly sees fit. Erreur’s main character flaw is selfishness. This is not to say that she doesn’t care for others or their feelings, but rather that she simply tends to fear her own boredom above all.

The young engineer hates anything that does not change and detests the stale life that the people of Tempest have become accustomed to. She has the firm belief that human beings are meant to be in motion and that humanity itself makes no progress unless they are constantly being pushed forward. It is this ideal alone that drives Erreur's entertainment in life. That being said, Erreur can be quite the pleasant company surrounded by the out-of-ordinary crowd so long as they can put aside her somewhat lack-luster social skills. She will even be noted to put others above herself, if such an opportunity arises that she could bring about an observable drastic change in an individual. She loves to see goals achieved, as long as they are are extreme and out of the ordinary scope of the regular tenants of Tempest.

    Appearance

    Skills:
Erreur has inherited the skills of her father’s trade and is more than an impressive engineer. Her "Tinker Toys" were the guts and fluids of the various ships to traverse the Tempest skies. As a result of this upbringing, Erreur has become a very capable engineer in the repairs and upkeep of all sorts of ship designs.

    Fighting Skills:
Erreur does not consider herself much of a fighter as she finds such activities to be outside her zone of interest, to say. However, she has found, upon traveling the more dangerous zones of her tower's area, that the tools she carries upon herself make for a great self-defense makeshift club. While small in stature (short!!!), Erreur is considered unnaturally strong due to her manually laborious endeavors in ship repairs and maintenance.

Equipment: Toolbelt with whatever random tools (go figure) she deems necessary at the time of day. A pair of awesome high-tech goggles (if this is allowed - asking permission) that allow her to zoom in and out in magnification to her desire to perform better examination of parts as well as pull up any programmed saved or programmed documents (such as blueprints, maps, manuals).

Magic: to be determined as instructed.

Haven't started writing a CS yet, but I'm leaning on a male doctor at the moment. Depending on how many male characters we'll have in the RP, I might end up with a female instead. I like to keep things relatively balanced, heh.

That said, would anyone here want to link our characters together, make it so that they already know each other etc. I haven't really gotten too far into planning my character yet, so I'm open to suggestions! Of course, there's a chance one of us won't get in... but ya know, just planning ahead for fun times.

@Deli, remove the part about the the burden from you CS background, cause the rp itself starts with the burden crashing, so it shouldn't be in the background really, lol. Other than that, it's all good so far, so unless someone comes in with a better engineer you're in.

    Understood.
It has been done, oh great GM.

And thank you kindly. I welcome anyone else who wishes to apply for engineer position, please do not let my CS be a burden to you :]

I wouldn't mind hearing about this stuff either. I'm kind of curious about any possible groups of people we might crash into; what kinds of peeps are upholding the law and hunting down any pirates, how do the laws work, are there any bigger groups of pirates that are infamous around Tempest, or if there any specific islands that should be avoided at all costs etc. Is most of Tempest unmapped, are there any nations?

I can write my CS just fine with the info I have. I'm just curious to know more before we start the actual RP.

    Name: Lionel Sears

    Age: 23

    Gender: Male

    Role: Pilot/Navigator

Personality: Fairly light-hearted and jovial. He has an optimistic and easy going approach to life, yet a bittersweet and cynical view of the world and people. He’s no ladies man but he can get playful and flirty as a means of mild rebellion if threatened by a female, or if he needs to manipulate a female to his advantage. He’s good looking and charming and he knows it. To his friends, he’s very nice guy and fun to be around. To his enemies, though. He doesn’t mess around. He can kill without any remorse.

    Appearance:

Skills: Good knowledge of the world. Good ship flying skills (especially in combat and evasion).

Fighting Skills: His aim with weapons in general is fairly well practised. He’s no sharpshooter and he has no favourite weapon, but he’ll probably hit a close to mid range target.

Background: He was born on a small island, attended the school there, but longed to be in a big city the whole time. Once he hit sixteen, he moved away to the nearby city, and got his driving and piloting licences, becoming a ferry driver. One day, the ferry was hijacked by organised criminals. It was pursued by the authorities and he was ordered at gunpoint to outrun them. He relished the excitement and he asked the mobsters for a job. They were impressed by his ability to outrun the police in a ferry ship, and made him a getaway driver. He spent the next few years working for them, and before he knew it he had made a fair name for himself.

After donning a hazard suit and finding a very valuable object on the surface, he was discreetly contacted by a rival with a better offer. He made the deal, and shortly after, his family were killed. He shut up about it and did his job like a good little gangster, until he had to personally escort the don somewhere, where he deliberately crashed the car. The don was dead and he was in bad shape. The mob then dissolved into a power struggle and was split into gangs, whilst Lionel himself was arrested. He was 19 at this point, and he was imprisoned for three years for his crimes dispite the good he did. He guess they were miffed he killed who they were after, and they wanted to arrest somebody. After he was released, he had a dislike for the authorities and for organised criminals. He returned to his home island, and one year of shitty jobs later, salvation was about to come his way...

Equipment: He has a phone with maps and stuff, and a ‘camelid’ nine chamber revolver with scope and laser sight.

    Magic: N/A

Lots of thanks to Mayhem for the Sig.

@Silver, the CS looks good so unless a better pilot comes along, you have it.

As for the island and what it's like, it's a small island that holds a population around 100-250 people, which is very small for a separate island. A little more backgorund into the world would also help.

There are currently three major factions within Tempest. First, the Government, responsible for building the sky towers and colonizing islands. The government is basically the remnants of the UN and other countries that united after the nuclear war to help humanity survive. It's a decent government, slightly corrupted and tyrannical, but nothing that is cause for much revolution. The second group is the Separatists, a group of islands and a single sky tower in the south that succeeded from the Government. They aren't on hostile terms, and they have an open trade going on, but there is the chance they could go to war someday, but they don't want a repeat of what happened during WWIII so they try to remain friendly. Third, the pirate guilds. Among pirates, there is a "guild" of sorts where the top 3 crews rule over the other pirates. Basically, when they need to unite their efforts, these three are the leaders of the other crews. First, The Burden's crew, an advance ship and crew with supernatural capabilities, of course the Burden is the top crew in the world, until they crash that is. Second, the Vectors, a crew that has a super advance warship that rivals the Burden and only falls short in that it's ship doesn't have the overdrive the Burden has. Third, the solo Rider, a pirate who's ship is basically a motorcycle meets airship, but it's speed surpasses even the most advance fighter planes in the world, so he can do everything alone without much effort most of the time.
