The empty chasm of space opened up before the ship, the mass effect relay hummed dully as its inner ring rotated. Tendrils of blue dark energy dissipated off of the ships metallic form as it used the last remnants of its momentum to push it into the Knossos system. It had been a while since they were repaired after being destroyed in the final blast that ended the Reaper menace. The shock of the blast burst the inner rings into a mass of debris, rendering them useless for almost 5 years. The ship slowed to a lazy crawl, drifting idly through the milky blackness as it floated in what the pilot believed to be safe space. The propellers flickering in timed rhythm directing the vessel in the right direction, deft fingers managing trajectory and speed of their travel. They had escaped, or so they thought.
The massive dreadnought seemed to appear out of no where, tailing the small vessel, dwarfing it as proceeded in quickly checking the vessel's readings. All attempts at communication were refused and a tense silence filled the small ship. It was only a matter of minutes before the dreadnought opened fire, the ship narrowly attempted to dodge the sudden barrage of bullets but it was fart too late. The much smaller vessel veered left and right in an effort to protect itself, throwing the crew off of their feet and sending tumbling around the ships hull. It was only a matter of seconds before the first charge tore through the left side of the ship, ignoring the shields as it punctured one of the engines which caused massive loss of power on half of the vessel. Another bombardment of shots and the hull was breached, air poured out of the ship until the emergency shields wearily activated, damaged along with the rest of the ship but giving the crew just enough time to slip into their environment suits and evacuate to the escape pods.
The whirring of the ships alarms warned of a hull breach. Lights flashed as fires consumed half of the ship, insatiable flames licked the control consoles that lined the first floor of the medium sized ship. The hefty shots fired from the unmarked vessel were a disturbing surprise, the control seat was empty as all personnel were filling the escape pods. The ship creaked as it slowly crumbled with the view of the red planet, Therum, in the background casting an eerie red glow over the scene of destruction. With a powerful hiss each escape pod was propelled from the ship and into the black nothingness, towards the planet below them.
The unmarked ship watched from a safe distance, cannons ready to fire another shot. All personnel watching with tense fingers as they awaited the order. "Fire." The Turian commanded, hands clasped behind his back as he watched from the viewing window as the blasts bore into the ship's remains. The ship exploded causing a fiery display of destruction as pieces of shrapnel drifted away from the burst. The Turian nodded turning away from the viewing port and pulling up the communicator, "Falco P-99 to base, the intruder has been taken care of." With that the ship pulled away, scanning airspace for any other unwelcome visitors.

The landing of the pods was incredibly rough. The metal shapes burying into the hard soil in a cloud of dust and dirt as heat radiated off of the metal exterior. It was a miracle the pods didn't land in the bubbling pools of molten magma that formed lakes on the planet's surface. The once booming planet was mined barren by alliance, using the bountiful metal oars to fuel their manufacturing boom on earth. Large amounts of Prothean ruins have also been discovered below Therum's thick crust. The relatively quiet planet had gone silent since it was nearly mined hollow, all Prothean artifacts recovered and identified over the years, rendering the planet even more useless. Now the planet is a barren rock, spewing magma. All interest further lost as it was abandoned after the Reaper Wars almost a century ago. For this reason it was the ideal location for a Haven research facility, hiding in plain sight. It was accessible to both council and terminus space, making it the ideal position and being a barren planet made it uninteresting to visitors.
The doors of the escape pod hissed open as the seal broke, the smoldering pile of metal half buried in the soil of the planet. The surface was coated with a thin layer of volcanic ash and weather beacons from ages past warned of increased volcanic activity. Waves of heat invaded the inside of the pod, carried by the oxygen that was tinged with the musty smell of sulfur that filled Therum's atmosphere.
The planet's mild atmosphere made it accessible by all species, all of which do not require breathing apparatus to breathe comfortably on the surface. The planet's surface is sometimes subject to wind storms and downpours of acidic rain that, while harmless to all species, prevents proper plant growth. No fresh water is located on the surface of Therum, all drinkable water sources must be shipped in monthly to any facilities on the surface.
