Creating a friend to help me cope.

So, I had an idea which came to me while reading fanfiction. The basic premise is that a 19 year old female, stuck in a deep depression creates a best friend from figments of her imagination inspired by a friend she met online, to give her a form of constant companionship. She falls asleep one night, and wakes the next day, feeling like something is gonna happen.

The guy she imagined is at her school. He matches her idea of him to an extent. He is sweet and kind, but the confidence he seemed to have isn't there. Making quick friends with him, she allows him into her life. But...does he actually exist?
