The Pokémon "Turquoise Version" RPG - IC Thread

Welcome to The Pokémon "Turquoise Version" RPG

This roleplaying game is designed for a new Pokémon Region in which all of the Pokémon from Generations I through V can co-exist. This is a mature look on the Pokémon Universe that has otherwise in the past been viewed as childish.

Given this is the first season, the only pre-established history is the history of the Toruko Region and the information provided about the Gym Leaders of this new region. Although so it is known, I will be playing Vincent Rivers, the Seafoam Islands Gym Leader.

This game is ALWAYS accepting new applications.

    -------------

    RULES

You may play as any 2 human characters from the games, comics, anime, or you may choose to create your own character. Just be sure to assign them a class. You may not, however, be able to play any members of the Elite Four or the defending Champion of this Pokémon Leage.

Our region is the new Toruko Region, but your character can be native to either the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, or Sinnoh regions if you desire it to be so. Please note that the Seafoam Islands in the Toruko Regions is the same Seafoam Islands from the Kanto Region but the Mt. Pyre in the Toruko Region is not the same Mt. Pyre in the Hoenn Region.

You are allowed to carry 6 Pokémon at a time. If you have more than 6 Pokémon the rest must remain in some sort of storage.

Legendaries may not be caught, beaten, or killed. But you are allowed to interact with him by chasing them and challenging them.

When battling one of the Gym Leaders, keep in mind that just because they have 6 Pokémon at least for battling they will not always use six. Just like in the show, the Gym Leader will only use as many Pokémon as the challenger has. So if you are battling an NPC Gym Leader keep that in mind when you challenge them. If you are interacting with a PC Gym Leader, the player playing the Gym Leader must honor this rule.

Battling is like the show, so you can have your Pokémon dodge attacks and combo attacks like Agility+Quick Attack for example. You are not restricted to only 4 moves per Pokémon unlike the video games. Your Pokémon may perform any move they are able to naturally learn, but please be wise about this. I love Squirtle. He is my FAVORITE Pokémon, but if my trainer is a new trainer who just got his first Squirtle, my Squirtle shouldn't be performing Hydro Pump as though it was something as basic as Bubble. So we please ask that you be smart and mature about the moves your Pokémon performs depending on how powerful it is.

Hidden Moves (HMs) do not exist in this RPG. Just think about it, if you have to teach your Blastoise Surf just to ride on its back when it is a fairly large Water-type Pokémon, or if you have to teach your Charizard Fly just to ride on its back when it is a fairly large Fire-type Pokémon that can fly...that isn't realistic at all. You shouldn't have to teach a Pokémon Cut if they have claws. Just be reasonable here. Obviously, you aren't going to be flying on the back of a Pidgey or Spearow because they are so tiny. But it isn't so farfetched to hang onto your Squirtle and swim a distance but it shouldn't be a great distance because obviously the Pokémon would get tired from pulling on your weight with Squirtle being so small. So just be realistic given that this is not the video game. Technical Moves however are in the game and are explained below after the rules and other information.

Know your Pokémon an their weaknesses. Just because you are writing your own story does not mean you can ignore the fact that Water-type Pokémon have a weakness to Electric and Grass-type attacks, unless it is a Water-type Pokémon whose second type allows them to have an immunity or resistance (ex: Swampert is a Water/Ground-type so he Electric attacks do not work on it). If you are unsure what attacks your Pokemon is weaker against or has resistance or immunity against, please check this website and scroll down either numerically or alphabetically to find the Pokémon you are searching for. Undernearth the "Evolution Chain" box you will see a "Damage Taken" box which will tell you specifically what type of moves your Pokémon are affected by and how.

Constructive criticism of posts can be given, but don't be an jerk about it and openly criticize another's work.

Communication is the one word to live by for the RPGs. Good communication between players not only helps the flow of the arc and increases the enjoyment of the storytelling process, but it also helps create new twists and ideas that can make for some memorable stories.

Several stories can be going at once, and you have the freedom to interact with other characters.

You must post at least once every two weeks, though it is preferred that you post more. If you go two weeks without a post without prior notice, your character is up for grabs.

The Gamemaster has the final say in matters in the RPG. You may not always like his judgement, but that's life. Arguing about it is not only pointless, but does absolutely nothing to help your cause.

There should be minimal cursing and swearing in posts. Even though we are taking a mature spin on the world of Pokémon, you should not be dropping f-bombs just because it is "in character" all over the place.

People who disobey these rules, some more major than others, will get booted from the RPG by the Gamemaster.

A grey haired couple smiled and waved goodbye to their son. "Good luck! Be sure to call every once in awhile and let us know how you're doing!"

Wyatt smiled and waved back. "Will do! Love ya!" With that, he turned about, and put his parents' house behind him. He swept his medium length black hair under his distinctive red Pokémon ranger cap, and headed north. Willow Town was a very peaceful place, and he'd grown up here. He liked it. Alongside him were his Pokémon friends; Gaia, his Grotle, plodded along. Boo, his Gastly, floated around Wyatt's shoulder. Leanne, his Sewaddle, was resting comfortably in Gaia's bushes, looking around and admiring the greenery.

It was tricky, and it took some sweet talking, but Wyatt had managed to pass on his regular patrols of the nearby forests to another ranger, so that he could travel Toruko, make new friends, and challenge the Toruko Pokémon League. Ranger John would be in the Eerie Forest today. Hah! I hope he doesn't piss himself again, if another Duskull jumps out at him. He would take another look around town, examine the gardens, maybe pick up some herbs, before challenging the gym.

As a native Willow Towner, Wyatt had trained with its Gym Leader, Blake Greene, earlier in his life. Blake had taught him about Grass-type Pokémon, and various applications of herbs and plants; very useful knowledge for someone who was to become a ranger. He respected Blake greatly, and would be happy to see him again.

Wyatt walked along a wooden bridge, and stopped halfway to look around. He'd spent a good amount of time swimming this river as a child. To his left, he could see the Greene Effort. Maybe, later, he'll let me take some herbs for the road. Never know what might happen. Don't want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere with a sick Pokémon. Wyatt patted Gaia's head, and continued towards the gym.

He stopped on the bridge that was near the gym, and looked out over the water. I'm not in any rush. Blake might be at his house, or he might be helping some people train.

The view that Ray could witness on board the Driftloom Air Service was absolutely astounding. It was his first time on one of these things. As the balloon slowly lilted its way to Weald Town, Ray could see practically all of the Toruko Region. The region’s various towns and attractions could all be seen from high above. The sight was truly breathtaking.

Ray knew that he had no time to marvel at the sights, however. His green eyes showed a fierce and motivated desire inside him. He had come here with a purpose. Maybe, Ray thought to himself. Maybe this place is where I can find what I’m looking for. Ray had heard of all that the Toruko Region had to offer, and he wondered if this place truly had the power to change him. The power to save him. As the balloon more or less made its way to its destination, Ray sat down and thought about how he had departed from Lilith, his older sister in Snowpoint, Sinnoh.

“Are…are you absolutely sure you want to do this?” Lilith had asked him, her green eyes fraught with worry. Ray hated it when Lilith revealed those eyes to him. He had no defense against it.

“Professor Rowan stated that this would likely be my only chance” Ray replied, packing his things in his room. He took care to avoid looking at Lilith directly. “I’ve made up my mind. I’m leaving for Toruko”.

Lilith opened her mouth to say something, but instead made her way to Ray and hugged him tightly, her warm arms enveloping him. “If you’ve made up your mind, then there’s nothing much I can do, is there?” Ray, taken by surprise, finally looked at Lilith. She was crying. Ray tried to stop himself, but he couldn’t. He could never hold them back when his sister was crying. The tears were rolling down his face as well. Lilith gently wiped them away her finger. “Just look at you” she said, smiling through her tears. “I could have sworn it was yesterday that I was still taking care of you, but look at you now. You’re all grown. I’m…I’m so proud of you” she choked out as she squeezed Ray tightly again.

Ray desperately wanted to comfort Lilith at this point. He wanted to tell her not to worry about him. That he’d be safe in Toruko. That everything was going to be alright. But the words never arrived at his lips, choked somewhere between his heart and his throat. He couldn’t say anything. All he could do was simply hug Lilith back, and hope that she understood why he was leaving. The two hadn’t been separated ever since Ray was born. This was the biggest decision of Ray’s life, and the one that would hurt Lilith the most.

“Lilith?” Ray managed after a moment.

    “Yeah?”

    “…Thanks. Thanks…for everything you’ve done for me”.

“Of course” Lilith replied softly, as she gently rubbed Ray’s spiky black hair back and forth. “You’ll always be my little brother. Never forget that”.

Don’t worry, Ray thought. I will NEVER forget that.

Ray sighed heavily as he slowly faded back into reality, on board the Air Service. He was leaving his sister behind, the only thing he ever cared about in the world, to attend to his own vague personal and emotional goals. Of course, he knew how strong his sister was. And besides, there was her Salamence that was more than capable of protecting her. Still, Lilith was the only person who understood Ray. Leaving her was probably more dangerous for him than for her, but this was Ray’s only opportunity. He looked down again. Weald Town was slowing inching closer and closer to him. Ray stared at the small town, a fierce determination once again shining in his eyes. The Toruko Region. This place would either be Ray’s salvation or his last condemnation.

"Chiko, Chikorita!" The small grass pokemon yelled before clawing at Chesire's leg to wake him, luckily her claws were dull so the just left his skin agravated. "Bloom, that wasn't very nice you know." The Blond haired boy said as he scooped the female Chikorita in for a hug, earning his a squeal of delight. However, his movement jostled a very irritable Vulpix. "Rawr." Flare yawn cutely before snuggling the pillow he lay on.

Deciding that now was a good time to pack up and move, Chesire gently shook the fire pokemon awake and repeated the action with the drooling Seel. Then he gently told them to wait outside while he packed everything up. The object that took the longest to pack was easily the tent itself.

When he was finished packing he made Seel and Chikorita return to their respective pokeballs, Seel because he seemed a little dried out and Chikorita because she was only a few weeks old and still needed lots of rest. Flare however, was left out of the restraining contraption, he just didn't like it in there.

Turning his attention to the lazy Vulpix, his Green eyes staring into Flare's slate blue, he said "Ya'll ready neah?" Before picking the small creature up and cradling him to his chest, without another word he started his way towards Willow town.

    *half an hour later*

Entering the town, Chesire was surprised by all the people and pokemon he could see. It amazed him almost as much as how much flora surrounded the town. He walked aimlessly, just admiring everything he saw from the flowers to the people and pokemon, to the buildings and houses. Although he was forced to stop when he felt the pangs of hunger, luckily he was near a small stream that way all of his pokemon could come out to eat.

Sitting near the water, Chesire took a few things out of an insanely large back. Specifically a few tupperware containers contailing his food, pokemon kibble for Flare, Tuna for Frost, and Mashed fruits and veggetables for Bloom. When everything was laid out, he called ot his two contained pokemon, Seel opted to jump in the water first, while Chikorita nearly tackled him so he could start feeding her.

Meanwhile, while Seel was swimming he noticed someone on the bridge near by, he waited flr just the right moment before beaming the boy in the face with a playful watergun.

Wyatt was so unprepared for the prank that he fell backwards, and landed on his butt. He blinked a few times, trying to think out what just happened, before bursting out into laughter. His Gastly joined him in laughter after he'd ensured that Wyatt hadn't been harmed, and floated over to the Seel. Boo gave Seel a lick upside the face, and turned upside down while laughing. Gaaast! "Good one!" Leanne and Gaia were content to rest in the sunshine.

After wiping off his face, Wyatt stood up and walked over to Chesire. "Heh, your Seel is a fun little guy! Hi there. You must be new in town, right? I don't think I've seen you before." Curious, Gaia began to lumber over to Wyatt and Chesire. The Grotle bent her head down to Bloom and smiled. Grrooootle! Grot-groooo? "Hi there! Would you like to eat one of my nuts? They're healthy!" Gaia shook her bushes for emphasis, as the bushes carried nuts--and Leanne, who tumbled out of the bushes when Gaia shook them. Leanne landed on her face in front of Flare, and looked up at the Vulpix fearfully. Gaia turned to Leanne for a moment. Groo-groo. "I'm sorry."

Jett sat waiting for the S.S. Aqua. His mother was sitting next to him constantly trying to fix his hair, more out of her nervousness than the actual messiness of his hair. Sam was running around on the table playing with a speck of dust that was floating in the air.

"Mom stop worrying, I'll be ok," Jett tried to relieve her as he turned towards her and moved her hand away form his hair.

"You know I don't like these Pokemon Journeys," she replied with a nervous, but sad look in her eyes.

    "I know," Jett replied.

"If you're father hadn't gone..." His mother's voice trailed away.

"Mom, I'll be ok. Times have changed, the world is safer than before," Jett replied.

"You have everything I packed you?" She asked, changing the topic before she burst into tears. Jett looked into his backpack. His mother had stored a few potions and a couple pokeballs inside. She had packed a warm sweater and alot of extra socks she had also given him a little bit of money, but there wasn't alot.

    "Yes mom," Jett replied.

"Which Pokemon are you bringing again?" His mom asked. When Jett had first told her about his idea to save the Pokeshelter she was quite against it. She didn't want him out all alone in a part of the world he had never been to, but he finally convinced her by telling her he could take some Pokemon from the shelter to train. She made him take six for extra protection.

"I have Charlie, Roxy, Ike, Amy, Dusty, and of course Sam," Jett replied. Sam looked over at Jett when he said her name. She ran up to him and jumped into his lap. She began to nuzzle his chest and Jett patted her head.

"Good, don't get into trouble while you're there, call me as much as you can," his mother instructed.

"Of course mother, and I'll send money home to you," Jett replied. The loud sound of a ship horn interrupted them.

"The S.S. Aqua has arrived, everyone heading to Vermillion City, please begin to line up now," the ticket attendant announced over the intercom. Jett and his mother stood up and Sam jumped off of his lap.

"Good luck son, I know you'll do great things," his mother said as she hugged him. She held him for as long as she could.

    "Now boarding the S.S. Aqua!"

"Good bye Mom, I love you," Jett said as he released his arms from around her.

"I love you too," she replied. Jett turned around and called for Sam who ran up behind him and followed him onto the ship.

"Please come back," she whispered to herself.

Frost laughed at the ranger's reaction, making small waves appear in the water. However they stopped when a Ghastly suddenly licked him. "Gaaast" (Good one!) "Seel" (Thanks) Frost said before moving toward the shore.

Chesire smiled at Bloom as she eagerly at her food, however he was a bit surprised when someone approached him about his Seel. Noticing the young man was soaked, he chuckled softly. "Sorry about that, he's a bit impish." Chesire said while placing Bloom on the soft grass and stood up, he towered over the ranger by a good foot, give or take. "Howdy, name's Chesire like the cat." He said bashfully, scratching the back of his head with his left hand and offering his right one for a handshake. "I actually just got here."

Meanwhile, Chikorita stared at the Grotle that offered her nuts..she was suprised when another pokemon fell off but shrugged it off. "Chiko, Chikorita." (No, but thank you.) However, that didn't stop her from using the leaf on her head to play with the Grotle's bushes. Flare on the other hand, was amused when the Sewaddle fell, looking at the obviously frightened pokemon he said, "Vulp, Vulpix vulpa." (Why, hello there little one."

Taking the offered hand, Wyatt gave Chesire a gentle shake and a smile. "Wyatt, Pokémon ranger. Don't worry about it, I can take a joke. So, what're you in town for? Most people come here for the Greene Effort, Pokémon Beauty Contests, or the gym. I, myself, am going to challenge Blake shortly. Not sure if he's at his house or in the gym, but we'll see about that in a little bit." He scratched his chin as he looked at Chesire. "You're definitely not from around here, no. Out of region, maybe, even. Johto? Maybe...Kanto?"

Boo flipped right side up, and returned to Wyatt's side. Gaia smiled at the young Chikorita's play. The Grotle slowly extended a vine, and gently groomed Bloom. Grooootle. "Let's be friends." Leanne the Sewaddle grew a little more fearful, and began to inch away from Flare. Sewa-waaaddle! "Please don't eat me!"

Jett sat alone in his room. It was quite nice, but he worried about the financial burden this was setting on his mom. Sam was jumping on the bed next to him and exploring. Eevee!(I like it here!) Jett laughed at her and threw her an apple from his bag, which she began to chew on. Jett noticed the other five Pokeballs sitting in his bag.

"Maybe I should let them out?" He thought to himself. One by one he released the other five. First it was Charlie, his Growlithe. Charlie had been at the Pokeshelter almost as long as Sam. Charlie immediately began to lick Jett's face.

"Stop it!" Jett laughed as he playfully pushed him off the bed. Charlie sat up straight by Jett's feet. As if he were guarding him. Growlll!(I'll protect you!)

Next, Jett released Ike, his Larvitar. Ike had only been at the shelter for a few months before. He ran over to Sam and immediately grabbed the apple from her. Larvitar!(Mine now!) Sam chased him around the room for a minute before tackling him and taking it back.

After than, Jett released Dusty and Amy, his Pichu and Horsea. Dusty began playing with Sam and Ike while Amy simply sat next to Jett. He pulled out a small water dish and put her inside of it. The last Pokemon was Roxy, his Chikorita. She had barely been given to the Pokeshelter. He released her and she sat on the bed glaring at him.

"Hey Roxy," Jett said. He reached over to pet her but suddenly she used vine whip on his hand. Chika!(Don't touch me!)

"Guess you don't really like me much," Jett laughed. He then lay down on the bed and stared up at the ceiling.

"I hope I'm ready, for this."

Dr. Getwell walked out of Remedy Gym with his Bulbasaur. "Thanks again Blake! Chemy'll definitely have some new and exciting remedies to concoct now. Call me soon!" "Saur! Bulba!", and Chemy extended a vine to wave as well. They walked over the bridge leading west and continued towards the one southbound. Richard's Bulbasaur raced to the water's edge and drank. So pristine! He turned and and pointed to his human's belt. "Bulbasaur!" Getwell laughed, "Doc and Nurse just finished a shift, they need to rest. Hm, I guess Steta might enjoy the weather though. It's nice and calm." He grabbed a ball and tossed it: "Come on out Steta, it's your day off!" The ball opened in mid-air before returning to the Doctor's hand. A flash of light subdued to finally reveal Richard's Audino, stretching. She had just finished resting. The team had helped an Anthropologist the day before in the Rockslide Mountains. The young man had a severely injured Hariyama; it had broken an arm trying to help it's trainer search for artifacts. "Went a little crazy on the Rock Smash, did we?" Getwell had said, having his Alakazam teleport them all to the Galena City Pokémon Center. It was a pretty bad open fracture. Turned out a gang of rock types had ambushed them and Hariyama was countering a Rock Slide to protect it's trainer who had called "Brick Break" by mistake. Valiant, but somewhat reckless. Doc, Getwell's Alakazam, had had it's spoons full with keeping the patient under hypnosis for the purpose of anesthetics, and Nurse, the Chansey, had pulled a double shift. She sustained the fighter during it's surgery with Heal Pulses and then during its first few hours of recovery with Softboiled concoctions. Chemy only needed to whip up an antibiotic and Steta watched and listened, monitoring the patient, but nothing exceedingly demanding.

After his friends had splashed around a little, Dr. Getwell called them and marched over the southbound bridge. The team was never really off. Bulbasaur had it's specialized training this more with Blake Greene and then the team needed to make a round at the Pokémon Center. The local Nurse Joy had asked him to do a check up on a Bellossom that just would not dance anymore. Very strange. As they marched on to th center, Richard saw two trainers he had never met before. Their pokémon seemed very happy and were getting along brilliantly, this warmed his heart. He nodded towards his own companions who nodded back, and the three walked up to the trainers.

"Hello boys. Let me introduce myself. I am Dr. Richard Getwell, a pokémon doctor!", he gave them his card, which was actually a thin piece of metal. "I have an emergency medical service. Just squeeze the card when you are in the wild and in need of immediate assistance. There is a GPS in the metal card that tell me your location through my customized PokéNav and my Alakazam can teleport me right to you. Don't worry about fees. I am completely funded by a variety of charitable and a private donors. Not to mention that the Pokémon Leagues of all regions help me out. We just want to make sure travelling trainers are never stranded. I can also provided some suggestions and expertise if ever you have questions about one of your companion's growth." He smiled sincerely and warmly. His Bulbasaur nop-scotched up to the Grotle and Chikorita, extending a vine of his own. "Saur, saur!" Nice to meet you. Steta curstied and bowed, somewhat shily. "Audi." Pleasure to meet you.

"I wish I could present you to my Alakazam, Doc, and my Chansey, Nurse, but they are just so exhausted. We had a call yesterday night and they both worked overtime... Where are you boys headed?"
Still recovering from Mono. Limited activity. Very sorry.
